My husband and I travel a lot in Italy where service is superb and old world charm is everywhere. The closest thing t to Italian service and charm in the US is the Hay Adams.
Recently renovated the Hotel is the best combines the best of a historic building with modern conveniences. The staff is charming, attentive without smothering you. The restaurant staff always friendly; remembers your preferences and your name. The food was wonderful and beautifully presented and served.
Our room was large, beautifully appointed with plaster ceilings, facing Lafayette Square and best of all the windows opened allowing fresh air, something all too rare today. The bed was especially comfortable and the pillows just to my liking.
If you are looking for a first class hotel in a first class location choose the Hay Adams in DC. Much of the city is within walking distance; the staff is quite knowledgeable about dining, attractions and exhibits. Oh don't forget to get a cookie at the front desk before retiring for the night, a perfect was to cap off your night.
