“Nice Hotel with great location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2009

We stayd here for 4 nights and had a great time! The rooms are comfortable, also the bathroom, and very clean.
The location is great, we walked to the white house and downtown. The metro also has a stop nearby the hotel.

We stayed for 3 nights a this hotel which was a very nice surprise regarding value for money!!

The room had an very big and comfortable bed, the bathroom was very clean and the room was spacious.

The standard of the room was very good - no flaws at all.

We has hoped to try the sky-bar but unfortunately it closed early or was occupied.

Will definately stay there again if i can find the same price again (225 USD per night)!

We stayed at the Beacon on a business trip, and for our purposes it was brilliantly located (near M Street). The room was a very good size, with a seating area and kitchen. Strangely, there were cooking rings there - but no pans! Not sure if they'd expected me to bring them with me from the UK. It would have been good to have a way to heat up water (not the coffee machine) to make decent tea, as I had brought some teabags!

The bathroom was a little cramped, but did have a proper bath and lots of fluffy towels. My colleague was disappointed however - she had a bath in her room but it was cracked and wouldn't retain water. The staff obviously couldn't fix it - it was a management saving not to have it fixed, evidently!

The reception staff were very busy, but always polite, and the checking-in process was very efficient. There were free newspapers in the lobby, til they ran out!

We only ate breakfast at the (expensive) hotel dining room once, on a Sunday morning - it was really delicious. Great coffee, toast and porridge. But pricey. Early on a Sunday there were no nearby alternatives. On any other day, M Street has lots of cafes which open early - we recommend La Baguette on M Street / New Hampshire (opposite 2000 M).

The Beacon is a great location for exploring DC too - it's about a 15 minute walk straight down to the White House.

  • Liked — Size of room, yummy breakfast if you can afford it
  • Disliked — Pricey - but what hotel in DC isn't?

I spent a Friday night at the Beacon and even though we didn't spend much time there, it was a decent stay. I love their restaurant/bar and they have a great location. I felt the room was too warm and hard to control the temperature. Also the water pressure could have been better and I had difficulty with the shower for awhile. It was quiet though which is key for me.

We arrived at the Beacon on Saturday 09/20 and stayed just one night. I booked a double room with a request for a King size bed. Our room (#613) was huge with a nice bed, a sofa, 2 TV, a kitchen with fridge, microwave, etc. And we only paid $123 including taxes and fees!! The parking was just $24 for Saturday and Sunday, which is pretty good. The location is very nice, close to the Dupont Circle and the metro. You can find a lot of restaurant along 17th and 18th Street. I totally recommend this hotel.

Stayed at the Beacon for Labor Day wkend/3 nites. Got a great deal on Washington.org. The room was "Deluxe King" on the 2nd floor. Very small room and really small bathroom. (Probably would have been better with a smaller sized bed. Glad I was traveling alone because I couldn't imagine trying to share the space with another person.) BUT - the bed was great, the room/bath is spotless and everyone working at the hotel is very friendly and helpful. Hotel is in a very nice/safe neighborhood with lots of interesting bldgs, also close to the metro but also close enought to walk to alot of the major attractions/museums etc.
2 blocks north on 17th Street is a CVS and the next several blocks have alot of good restaurants/bars and gay bars etc.
Walk a few blocks south and you can get the Circulator Bus. A great deal for only $1 and much nicer then the metro. (The trains are fine, but the stations are like being in a dark cave. Very depressing!)
All in all - I thought the Beacon was fine for the price that I paid. However, I would have been very unhappy if I had paid the regular price.

  • Liked — location, friendly/helpful staff, very clean room/bath.
  • Disliked — room size.

This was a very cute hotel! The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was nice, and the rooftop bar had an amazing view of DC! Though the room was on the small side, our king sized bed fit very comfortably and the staff was friendly. The valet did well (and we hate valet!) and overall, we had a very comfortable stay. I would definitely recommend this to others - great proximity to Dupont Circle and other amazing aspects of DC. Definite recommendation!
