Good Service at the Front Desk and from the Bellmen. The rooms are clean and modern. The rooms have modern kitchenettes. The location is also walking distance to WH. Lot's of places to eat in walking distance.

Got to room and it was only a King and no sofa, went downstairs to front desk and 3 minutes later we were in a bigger and better room, Great Job. Got a very comfortable king bed and a sleeper sofa as I requested. Changed with no problems

The Beacon has a great location near Dupont Circle but that is about it. Seriously needs a total revamp and makeover. Rooms are large but musty and not kept up well. Would not stay here solo. There are much better options very nearby for the same price range.

Room Tip: Back of the hotel are quieter.

I recently stayed here while on business. It would be perfect for a couple vacationing as well. It was perfectly appointed. The staff friendly and professional. I would have loved to go to the Skybar but it was closed for the season. I would definitely stay here again. The bell service and valet was very accommodating and helpful. I think was a great value for a centrally located downtown DC hotel. I will be back

Spent 4 nights with friends touring DC. The Beacon is in a great location for walking, the Metro ... The staff were very pleasent and helpfull. The rooms were fine with the exception of a wierd system for managing the air conditioning. We were dissappointed in the closure of the the Skybar for the season. The downstairs bar is singularly unattractive.

Our check in at the Beacon started kind of strange. Upon arrival the gentleman at the front desk started guessing my name. He would name all kinds of other names from travellers who hadn't checked in yet, because he thought he could guess it. Not very professional to say the least and a big "no no" in terms of privacy.

Front desk upgraded our room to a bigger double free of charge, which we appreciated. Wifi is $13 for 24 hours which is really expensive. After asking questions about the rate, we were given free wifi. The lady at the front desk wanted to trade the free wifi for a good rating on tripadvisor, which we found rediculous. Again, not very professional to say the least.

The room was very big, but looked kind of dark. There was a stained couch in the room. Again unprofessional. The safe in the room didn't work and when we turned on the AC a horrible smell came out of the AC. My bedsheets were stained and looked worn down.

I've never had to complain about something as simple as a toilet, but I guess there's a first for everything. The toilet was incredibly small and hard to sit on comfortably. To top that the thing didn't flush at random times.

After one day both of our room passes stopped working so front desk had to supply us with new ones. I have no idea why both passes stopped working and the front desk did absolutely nothing to find an explanation of apologize for the inconvenience. Because of their attitude my friend could't get into the room for half an hour and hotel staff did nothing to accommodate him.

The last thing I didn't get was the "pass swiping system" in the elevator. Before you could use the elevator you needed to swipe your room card. The swiping didn't work half the time so at times the elevator went up and past our level. I guess the system is there for security reasons, but there are stairs right next to the elevator. You don't need to swipe your room card for the stairs, so the security argument doesn't make any sense. It was such a hassle using the elevator that we just decided to use the stairs.

I was not impressed by this hotel or it's services. For my next visit I will make reservations at a different D.C. Hotel for sure.

My husband and I stayed at the Beacon for 2 nights. Within the first 5 min. of our stay, we had 2 complaints: the AC didn't work and the light bulb in the bedside lamp was broken. Later, we noticed that the trash can was overflowing (from the previous guest) and, after it was still there after the room had been cleaned, we complained to the manager. He took off one night's parking from our bill. The second night, we were awakened by a very drunk woman banging on our door. Apparently, although the could barely stand, she bypassed the front desk and "security" without anyone offering to help her to her room. We couldn't go back to sleep. The hotel itself is tired and without any of the charm that normally attends the descriptor "boutique." Happily, we'll go back to staying at the Hilton--or maybe try the Marriott. Anything but the Beacon.
