“Great Location and Nice Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2009

We stayed in Washington D.C. for five days. We were there for sightseeing, and this hotel is in the perfect location! It is only about five blocks from the National Mall which was perfect for us. The nearest Metro station is Foggy Bottom which is about six blocks. Walking was not a problem because the State Plaza is located in a nice area next to the George Washington University campus. There are many restaurants on the campus that were a few blocks away.

The room was very nice with two comfortable queen beds, a kitchenette, bathroom, and dressing room. The kitchen was especially nice for breakfasts. Our room did not have a view, but that was not a problem because we spent most of our days walking all over D.C. sightseeing and were exhausted by the time we got back. The staff was friendly and helful.

My family came into Washington DC for one night. We knew it would be a layover stay with a very small amount of sight seeing. The State Plaza was amazing! I'm sure everyone hears that DC isn't the safest of cities to stay in if you don't know where you're going. The State Plaza was in a great location. We walked down to see at least the whole east 1/2 of the Mall. If we'd had more time we would've been able to walk through the whole thing. It was very easy to find, the only thing that was a big difficult for us was that we were using cargo carriers on top of our van and they don't fit in the parking garage that way. Not a complaint - just a bit of advice, you may want to stop before getting into the city and rearrange so the parking thing isn't such a hassle. The rooms were amazing! We had a Plaza Suite. It was very nice, a full kitchen (perhaps a bit outdated) but the rest of the suite was so nice and plush! A full living room with a pull out sofa, a couple of closets and not to mention the private bedroom! Two flat screen tvs! It was a very nice stay. I do not believe they had a pool but it didn't matter, we weren't there to swim. One thing I would've like to have seen was an ice machine, they didn't have one. Two ice trays in the freezer so if you like ice cubes for drinks I would recommend picking up a bag of ice before you arrive or from the very conveniently located CVS (next door.) A great place to stay and the staff was also very friendly!

I stayed here for a business trip that turned into a family vacation (with hubby and 11-year-old). We had room 315, a suite with kitchenette (stovetop, fridge, microwave, utensils), large dining/living combo with queen size sofabed, decent bath, large bedroom. Amenities were good (free wired internet in rooms, free wireless in meeting room), restaurant had limited menu, but food was reasonable and they had some good bottles of wine for reasonable price. Location not the best, but quick walk to Foggy Bottom Metro and 15-20 minute walk to Georgetown. Price good for DC at $209.

Booked this hotel directly through their website in April - 24 hour cancellation policy - then on a whim I checked orbitz 3 days before my trip (through TA website) - found the price had gone down about $150 so I cancelled original res and rebooked - but before that, I did a quick search for Orbitz Coupns on the web and easily found a 15% off hotel stay of 3 days or more..so in the end saved about $200! It pays to look for coupons. Hotel was great if not a little worn, but the staff were friendly and the place was very clean. 10 minutes from the regan airport on the metro, and easy 10 minute walk to washington memorial. If you are physically okay, definately rent a bike for $25 per day down by the old post office building - you can get everywhere and it will save your feet for the amazing museams. Great location and decent price after discounts, and the kitchen is a big plus as you can eat breakfast in and pack a lunch which saves lots of $$. Most of the cheap restuarants are near china town up 7th -

This hotel is fantastic. It offers all you need for luxury in a hotel room with free internet connection and a gym.
There is only one problem, location. Even though it is in a good position for sight seeing it does not have many restaurants or eating houses nearby. Georgetown are the nearest about 15mins. walk away. The hotel does have its own restaurant but it is not as good a standard as the hotel itself.
All in all this hotel is first class and is highly recommended.

The location alone would have made booking a room here worth the money we paid. The hotel is 3-4 blocks from the Old Executive Office Building, with the White House just around the corner... However, the rooms were also incredibly comfortable. For us they were suite-style, with a large bedroom, with a full kitchen, bathroom and small room to separate the bedroom and bathroom. The beds were comfortable and clean, and there was a large, flat-screen TV in the room. The outside of the hotel is pretty nondescript, but inside it is impeccable. A good choice!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2009

My husband and I stayed in room 124 for 3 nights (Fri to Sun) in early May. I was coming down for business and we tacked on a weekend for personal time.

The hotel room was huge - king bed, dresser, closet, desk in the main room. Powder room, bathroom and kitchen with small table and chairs.

The bed was very comfortable. The rest of the furnishings are a bit older and have seen better days I'm sure. Tile in the bathroom is probably from the 50s - yellow tile with black trim.

Everything was very clean and in good working order. Nice bathroom amenities.

Security - peephole in door, latch, electronic safe in closet where you program your own 4 digit code (big enough for my laptop). In the evenings you need your room card to get into the building.

Kitchen - has all the basic pots, pans, dishes, toaster, coffee pot etc. No microwave. Housekeeping washes them for you every day. No food or spices available. There is a Safeway grocery store about 6 blocks away in the Watergate Hotel shopping area. Front Desk can give you directions. They also have a nice health food section there with good selection.

View - none. We looked out onto an alley.

Location - great. Close to the State Department, and the Mall. Right by Georgetown University. Subway stop a few blocks away. Most taxi rides to / from places ran us about $10. There is an extra charge of $1.50 per person in the cab on top of the fare which can really add up.

This hotel has two entrances as it encompasses two buildings. To get to our room when we checked in we had to walk down the hall, through a parking garage and into the next building. After that we came and went through the other entrance which was more convenient.

Food - did not eat in the restaurant here so no comment. We used the kitchen for breaksfasts and lunch.

Service - front desk was efficient for check in and check out. They helped us with a local map and directions to the grocery store. Housekeeping was good.

We got a great rate of under $100 / night and this is a good deal for DC. Given the price the hotel is a good value for the money.
