“Worthy of serious consideration”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2014

We had a very enjoyable stay at The River Inn. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the complementary sangria we were offered upon our return to the hotel one very hot afternoon was most welcome. The room was clean and comfortable with a kitchenette. The location is close to Foggy Bottom metro so getting around DC was easy. I have nothing other than positive comments to make about our stay.

On this trip to DC with my daughter and niece, we arrived late the night before our booking, and called ahead one hour. They went out of their way to work us into a standard comfortable room at midnight, and moved us easily the next day to our gorgeous huge suite looking out over Watergate bldg with some river views. We had a large LR and galley kitchen in addition to our spacious BR. It was perfect to return here after touring all day, one night so late we whipped up a nice easy dinner in with a movie. Did our big breakfasts in each morning as well to get ready for the day. We walked mostly as it is so close to Whitehouse and West Mall, and took metro from Foggy Bottom a lovely 2 block walk away. Cab rides were never more that $10 from anywhere dowtown. We did not eat in the restaurant, but observed elegant, happy diners passing thru. Most of all, every member of staff went out of their way to treat us with utmost consideration. We will definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Get a suite o high floor overlooking the river. It's worth the extra bit, and you will hardly wa...

From arrival, staff were so friendly and helpful. Our rooms were beautiful - very large with lounge area and kitchenette. We were so well located. 2streets away from subway and WholeFoods (not used to this type of store in Aust) so many cooked and uncooked foods and meals to choose from.
We loved our whole experience in Washington. From the hotel we walked to White House, Lincoln memorial etc. the Connector bus was also useful and was 2 streets away. One night we dined in hotels restaurant Dine and our meals were lovely and not expensive. We will recommend this hotel to all and wouldn't stay anywhere else now. Thank you River Inn and staff

Room Tip: We were on one of the higher levels, very quiet

Last year we stayed at the Quincy Hotel which is part of the Modus Hotels chain and were very pleased with our stay. I therefore chose another of their hotels, the River Inn, also because rooms come with a full kitchen which we thought would be nice to have for our 9 days in DC.
We loved the location in Foggy Bottom : very quiet and peaceful, with lots of trees, but still very close to the metro and Whole Foods Market (and a Trader's Joe a little higher up in 25th St) and restaurants nearby.
We had room 516; large window facing the Watergate Buildings and with some imagination the Potomac River. A nice, large and airy room, well maintained, very clean, in short : everything we had in mind and had hoped for.
Nice bathroom with good lighting. Amenities were regularly replenished.
Nice and comfortable bed.
But why do hotel rooms only have 1 single chair in the room ??? !!!
I understand that a lot of people are travelling alone, but by far not everybody. And where does the other person sit ??
They provide a kitchen = you can eventually cook something/have breakfast in the room, so, where does the 2nd person sit down to eat ??? On the bed ?
This said, we asked for a 2nd chair and it was provided to us immediately. Thank you !
2 other minusses : 1) the aircon was blewing right at the bed. I solved that by making a kind of screen with a book and a magazine. 2) we often returned home by 2-2:30 pm to rest for a while and often found the room not yet serviced.
All in all we loved our stay at the River Inn and would definitely return.

This is a lovely hotel the staff was so friendly they all could not do enough for you. The rooms are big we had a double bed and a double sofa bed which our children said was very comfortable (17 and 15 years) the bathroom is not big but in my mind does the job adequately . We also had a kitchen which was fab for making tea and coffee in the morning. The hotel is situated near the foggy bottom tube station (10min walk) and the walk to the White House was only 20 mins, Georgetown was a 10 min walk away and has lots of restaurants and shops this is a great hotel to stay in close to everything.

Loved the location. Quiet charming residential area near George Washington University. Metro close by and also just a 15 min. walk to the Lincoln Memorial. Very clean and the bed was so comfortable. I will definitely stay here again. Restaurant food and atmosphere were excellent.

We explored DC and loved staying in the suite with kitchen. Great staff & location! Close to Metro and WHOLE FOODS MARKET. Walking distance also to Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. Extremely friendly and attentive management. They heard it was my birthday and sent me a nice gift!
