“Great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

Our stay at the Mayflower was a surprise. We booked from Australia and were pleasantly surprised to be greeted at the reception with a glass of champagne by a very friendly lady. Nothing seemed too much trouble to the staff from our perspective. It was a beautiful old building, our room was roomy and everything was clean. We wanted for nothing. Very handy to metro (about 100 metres) and within easy distance to all attractions we were wanting to see. 6 minute train trip to all the attractions! Great stay.

Room Tip: We also ask for a quiet room so don't really want a view. Our room WAS quiet which is extremely...

Would not stay here again. Think they get most of their money from conferences and events. Rooms are big but the beds and pillows are terrible and the air con is really noisy. The service is good, but breakfast is Terrible and served in an under ground dungeon. I've stayed in better and fresher for less in Washington.

I spent a week at Mayflower for business. Given the stay period was during the AAO congress in DC and hotel charged me US$300 for a very ordinary room. The good points about the hotel are its proximity to the city centre and Du Pont circle plus the history associated with it. The bad points are the staff, who were very unhelpful during the stay. I had to request to extended my stay three times and every time I got a different answer. Similarly, we had to call room service a few times for them to come a fix our coffee machine.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the lift

Good hotel. Great location. The place is cool because it is old and I am willing to give up a few of the perks of modern hotels to stay someplace older with some character and history. Place is beautiful. It was hot and the AC never got the place really cold. Rooms are old but decent sized.

I just spent one week at the Mayflower in DC for business. The Hotel is historic and beautiful but my praise stops there. The staff in most cases seemed somewhat rude. Rooms were dirty and I even asking for housekeeping to resolve the issues, nothing was done. Management even did not return phone calls. I would only recommend the Mayflower Renaissance, DC if you wanted to see a historic location. It is unfortunate I had such a bad experience.

Lovely clean rooms. Good size beds. Lovely complimentary toiletries. Excellent location for main tourist attractions like The White house, Capitol Building, etc. Don't confuse this with another Renaissance property located not so far away and from the outside did not look half as nice.

The location is great: walking distance to Georgetown, Dupont Circle, National Mall - you name it. Most fabulous housekeeping staff I have ever met. Conference buffet food was not great, but not worse than the average food. Highly recommend!
