We stayed at the hotel sept 5 till 8th
Reading the terrible reviews of this hotel, i was suprised to find out that it wasnt quite as told in the horrorstories i read.

The plaza is an old hotel, if you can say a sixties hotel is old ofcourse, but if you say that since the sixties little has been done on the interior, you are right, apart from the lobby it is a bit messy f.i. wallplaster missing, stains on some carpets, that kind of things, no big deal really, mainly visual stuff.
But!
Newspaper everyday, great pool, nice lobby, helpfull staff (as far as i have expierienced) great location, clean all considerations you should add if you write your review.

Apart from some trouble with the shower (no hot water) we had no single problem with the hotel and recommend it to anyone who visits washington and isnt planning on spending big, or staying in 24/7.

For the price we were not dissappointed.

A pleasure to walk into with the air conditioning and the cool marbled lobby - what a surprise!

This hotel was one of the best value hotels we have had the pleasure to stay in. Close to all amenities and ideal for sightseeing.

The pool and poolside bar was everything we needed with temperatures over 100 degrees, the area was spotless and kept that way all the time.

We are a family of three but only enough linen for 2, this was rectified within minutes after we pointed out the mistake. The room was clean, tidy and extremely confortable.

Staff were more than helpful, and we were pleased to be pampered by the Restaurant staff.

As a family we have no hesitations in recommending this hotel to anyone travelling to DC.

I stayed at this hotel for only one night, but even if I did stay longer, the problems I encountered would not be fixed. The lobby was the only thing clean and stink-free. Very decieving because once you get to your floor, the hallways were so shabby and the rooms were terrible. We had two rooms- I do not think they have any such thing has "connecting rooms," there was no connecting door. Both rooms smelled so bad- I dont know if it was mildew or the strong disinfectants they probably used to try to get the stains out from the carpets. The bathrooms were old and looked so worn out. Take this as a warning!

Another thing that might keep you away- look out for the prostitutes we encountered in the elevators!!

This hotel was without a doubt one of the worst I have ever stayed in.
I stayed for two nights with my family as part of a touring holiday, and this was by far the worst of the hotels I stayed in.
For a start, with a family of four (2 children), we required two rooms, which we got, but while 99% of hotels would put you in rooms next door to eac hother, this one didn't.
Then, one of the rooms had to be changed. There was damp over the ceiling, the room smelled, the beds were very uncomfortable, the curtains didn't close properly and the room was small compared with others for which the same price had been paid. The hotel eventually changed the room, but initially offered one on the 9th floor, whereas the other room for the family was on the 4th floor. Eventually we did get a room on the same floor, but again many doors away from the other room.
The services at the hotel were either poor or unavailable. The high speed internet access didn't work, there was no way of cashing travellers cheques and the restaurant was completely unsuitable for families. Rooms (luckily not ours) and corridors were still being cleaned at 6pm in the evening, when people would have been coming back from a hot day around Washington. The only good facility at the hotel was the small gift shop, which was extremely well stocked.
The attitude of the staff was shocking. They didn't seem to care about the problems that we reported. When we asked about the internet access, and were told that the computers were down, we asked when they might be available again - and got a simple 'Don't know', with an attitude of 'It's not my problem so I don't care'. Staff also seemed unable to help out with other problems, and were more intereseted in continuing personal conversations than helping guests.
Overall, there is absolutely no way I would consider staying at the hotel ever again, even if the other alternative was sleeping on the streets, and I would most definitely not recommend it to anybody.

We have been to Washington, DC many times, but I would have to say Washington Plaza Hotel was wonderful. The service was great. Hotel security was top notch. Everyone was so very nice and helpful. Hotel was very clean and very quiet. I would recommend anyone staying there. They do have a pool which is great for kids.

After reviewing all the comments on the Washington Plaza I went in with an open mind. It was hard to believe that the people writing the reviews were talking about the same hotel. We stayed at the Plaza July 1-6, 2005 and had nothing bad happen. Any problems we did have (and there is usually one) were handled promptly and professionally. The bell captain seemed to be always at the door waiting for us. We were so busy we never got to the pool, but it always seemed to be busy. The only problem right now with the Plaza is that Thomas Circle is under construction and there are 2 hight rises going in. It may be better to stay when the construction is done. We were up and out early every morning so the construction did not wake us up. All in all, the Plaza is a great hotel at a great price at a great location (10 minute walk to the White House and National Mall and a 15 minute walk to Dupont Circle).

Booked 4 rooms for 1 night with partners, and only saw the negative comments about the "Plaza" after arrangements had been made. Price was very reasonable. We were relieved to find that accomodations were more than acceptable, although the place could use a makeover, without a doubt. But you cannot beat the place for the value, and its location. Note however, there is construction right out front, which makes finding it hard; so get a room away from that side if you can. Its not a four, or even a three star hotel, but it does not deserve the bad reputation on this site, at least from our experience.
