“Charming hotel in dupont circle area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

We liked this hotel where we stayed for three nights in April very much. Big comfortable room with twin king size beds, spacious marble bathroom etc. Friendly helpful staff from beginning of stay rushing to help get luggage out of taxi to the final departure. Charming helpful staff on reception desk. When I wanted to take a bus to Georgetown they printed out bus route map for me. High point was the free well attended Happy Hours with wine and canapés. Made some new friends through this event. We ate with local friends one night at the adjoining restaurant. Good food but a bit pricey. Otherwise we ate breakfasts early because of jet lag at the Korean run bagel restaurant across the road. Very convenient location for the metro at Dupont Circle and buses to downtown DC and Georgetown. Highly recommended. Would be pleased to come and stay here again.

Room Tip: We had a large room facing the street but insulation and curtains meant we heard no noise so this wa...

This was my second stay at a kimpton and I doubt it will be my last. Well apppointed and large rooms that bear contemporary funky designs are their hallmark, but was surprised to find that (seemingly genuine) friendly service is a also a given, from the bellman to the front desk to the Restarurant. Lovely restaurant with good breakfast options even if a tad pricey and a nice wine bar. Coffee and tea are on tap at the lobby all morning so catch your morning coffee next to the faux fire as another option. A great gym with a fair number of exercise machine options but more importantly its airy and light with fresh towels, water and fresh fruit as part of the package. Its easy walking distance from Dupont circle and easily accesible.

My initial rating was 4 stars but the service pushed it up to 5.

No doubt a clear choice for when in DC.

Room Tip: Request a room high up. I was on the 3rd floor and though ok it felt somewhat exposed as it was very...

Stayed during a business trip to the city. Great location. The rooms had a cozy feel. My children especially enjoyed the bedtime milk and warm cookies delivered to the room complimentary of the hotel. Amenities are lacking but the location and attention to detail make up for it.

We came to Washington for a conference, but didn't like the reviews of the conference hotel, so needed someplace else to stay where we could access the conference easily. We love the Palomar in San Francisco, so it was a no-brainier when we saw such good reviews for the Palomar in DC, which was in the perfect location for our purpose. We booked an executive king room, which is large and comfortable, with a big bathroom and closet, and all the expected amenities. I am very sensitive to noise, so they gave us a room that faces a small off-street parking lot, and there was no problem with street noise. However, there is no soundproofing from the hallway. Reception staff seem well aware of this, and said the hotel is renovating each room to deal with the problem. They offered us a white noise machine, but we improvised by using the room fan, and that solved the problem. All that said, if we were in Washington as tourists, I would stay closer to downtown. While the Mall and other attractions are in walking distance, it is a long way, and we found we used the Metro and did a lot of going back and forth from hotel to museum to hotel to dinner. Don't forget to join the Kimpton Loyalty Program, and get free wi-fi.

First the good points, The Hotel is in a great location, we had a large, well appointed Executive King room. Staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel interiors are sharp and modern.

The not so good! Had a reservation for 2 days but needed to add a day. The Hotel had availability but the online res system refused to let me book the extra night. Called reservation who advised me that the only way to add an extra night was to cancel my current reservation and rebook for a 3 night stay AND charge an extra $50 for each and every night of our stay.

Kimpton will charge a ridiculous amount of money for WiFi access unless you join their "In Touch" loyalty scheme. Even though our room was very large we still needed to stand in the bath and battle a shower curtain to have a shower.

The Urbana restaurant is average at best, chipped wooden tables and chairs, vibrating/droning sound made many areas of the restaurant very uncomfortable to be in. The restaurant staff were very friendly and helped us find a table that wasn't as noisy, prompt service and the food was ok but nothing special.

Overall quite a disappointing experience.

Room Tip: Don't change your reservation, they will ping you for doing so.

This hotel isn't grand like a four seasons or a ritz but it's still a wonderful, sweet hotel and i would recommend it! Like other reviewers have posted - it's probably due for a bit of an update but the room was still clean and large. we had the spa tub room and the huge soaking tub was a treat after our drive in from nyc and also after a day of lots of walking while touring dc. the location was perfect and we were 1st time dc visitors. we found a less expensive parking garage on 19th street which was good because the hotel parking is pricey at i think about $40 per night. we joined the kimpton loyalty club online - do it!!! you will then get free internet and $10 per day from the mini bar. the hotel is near the dupont circle metro - a really scary escalator down into station and confusing ticket machines - but there was metro workers there to help. we took taxis a lot too but you could walk to the whitehouse. there are lots of good restaurants right near hotel - we went to bouqueria (tapas) on m street - about a 5 min walk, and a great old school chinese place - meiwah, also about a 5 min walk. we did the capitol segway tour which i highly recommend for the first day as an overvue of the city. and we also did the duck tour - also lots of fun. as far as the hotel goes - the lobby is small but super lively and the staff in exemplary in their niceness and helpfulness. i would not hesitate to stay at the palomar again. i chose it because it was the highest rated hotel on tripadvisor that had pretty much all great reviews and was a reasonable price - about $310 per night. the other hotels ranked above it were all over $800 a night as it was still cherry blossom time in dc. i would also be willing to try any of the kimpton hotels - the chain seems to have a good thing going!

Room Tip: spa tub room is great if you like to soak!

Stayed at the Palomar April 13-15. Cheerful, cordial staff, nice. spacious room, interesting decor throughout the hotel, excellent location, good food options nearby. First day left early and returned after 2pm to find the room undone. Called housekeeping when we were ready to leave room again to advise them and room was ready when we returned. Would not hesitate to stay here again.
