“Exceeds expectations in every area! Definitely worth a stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

Unique boutique hotel, Rouge = red. Truly Red theme - walls, headboards, floors in lobby & restaurant. Very large room, 2 double beds, 2 chairs, great working space across one entire wall. Room has minibar, wall safe, robes to use during stay. Lots of power outlets for all the devices. Great location, just a few blocks to Dupont Circloe Metro stop. Have the social hour with free wine (and nice wine!), the Cafe serves wonderful food, very fresh and unique (asparagus salad was fantastic, great hummus and pita bread). Staff are very courteous, responded quickly to any questions or concerns. Discovered only 1 negative - no sleep timer on the TV remote for those of us who like to fall asleep to the TV.

Room Tip: The room with two doubles seems to be quite a few feet bigger than the room with King bed. Was on 9t...

This hotel is super clean! Although the lighting through out the hotel is bad. It is like being in a dark cave. I am not used to that when staying at a hotel. Perhaps if I was a little less square and maybe a few years younger this hotel would of been perfect for me. The beds were comfy, the staff nice. I loved the smell of their shampoo! But I could not see in the bathroom to put on my makeup. It is however a great location! Close to all the monuments.

Dear PlaidScottie. Thank you for your review. We pride ourselves on a clean, comfortable and welcoming hotel so we thank you for noticing! I will be sure to review the lighting in the room that you had; the cave look is not what we are going for.

The hotel is perfectly situated, provided that you don't mind a walk to the Metro. There are great restaurants -- Estadio, ChurchKey, Birch & Barley -- in the neighborhood, as well as two different Capital Bikeshare hubs within a couple of blocks, and a Whole Foods right around the corner.

Rooms are comfortable, stylish, and well-appointed, and the bright red color is not as jarring as it appears in some photos. We didn't have any problems with noise coming from other rooms or the hallways, and the air conditioner was actually quiet! Front-desk staff were pleasant and helpful (although it took 3 days to get a yoga bag delivered).

The theme of red is the only thing to write home about. God forbid you have to charge your cell phone or anything else in your room. The design is awful and not convenient. I love Kimpton Hotels and usually I am so thrilled but this hotel bored me.

Room Tip: The Hotel George on the Hill is a better location and has a fabulous French Restaurant Connected to...

Dear ibfk. Thank you very much for commenting on your recent visit to the Hotel Rouge. We genuinely want every guest to have a good time and a great experience. If our atmosphere was not your cup of tea, we have plenty of Kimpton Hotels with different types of décor to choose from in DC and we are glad that you gave our sister hotel, The Hotel George, a shout out!

Hotel Rouge - Washington - Stayed September 2012

Was the room clean - Yes, the room was very clean

Was the bed comfortable - Yes, fell asleep easily because of the bed

Was the enviorremnet quiet - At no time, did our sleep get interupted, and our room was facing 16th Street.

Location - This was our first stay in Washington and it was a great location. It was about a 10 minute stroll along nice leafy streets to the Subway / Metro. A Safeway supermarket was also about 10 minutes. There were good restaurants 1 street away in 15th Street.

The staff - The staff were very friendly. Big smiles, and nothing was too much trouble.

General information - The Rouge Hotel was very good. We were able to use their free cycles, and saw a lot of the major sights quickly, but also at our own pace. Dupont Circle is an ideal location. There was a facility to print boarding passes, which is a great bonus. The kitchen had a microwave, and coffee dripalator.

The only negative of the whole stay was the Wifi. You had to sit near the hallway or it kept dropping out. The lobby and bars the wifi worked very well. If the wifi was better, I would have rated it 5 stars.

I would stay here every time I come to Washington and will be recommending it to all my friends.

Room Tip: Get a room with a kitchen.. So much more space

Good size room. Has a romantic feel. The hallways and elevators are a lil dinged up and the gym is kind of a sad state. But overall for the location, the rooms, and the good staff this is a pretty solid place to stay on a budget.

Dear Chris P. Thank you for your review and I am pleased that you enjoyed our large rooms and great location! Our rooms and lobby were recently renovated, and our hallways will be done very soon! We do have a smaller sized gym, but we are partners with a larger gym around the corner for guests who need more space and variety when they work out. Thanks again for commenting on your visit and we hope to see you again soon!

Last January, after two weeks in North Carolina, decided to visit Washington DC and spent 3 days at this hotel before flying back home.
The hotel is pleasant and the rooms are spacious and clean. The hotel staff is very friendly. DuPont circle is within walking distance; there you will find some restaurants and a metro station.
