“Girls Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2012

We were greeted by superior service men as we entered the hotel for our annual girls weekend. The hotel decor was outstanding and the rooms were very cozy. We really enjoyed the atmosphere of the hotel, which influenced us to stay on site more for girl talk and drinks in the lobby area. This will definitely be a hotel of choice for our next visit to Washington DC.

Our company freqently uses this hotel for business meetings in Washington. I was here for a conference. The suites are spacious, with state of the art bathrooms, large comfortable beds. The standard rooms leave something to be desired, though. The conference facilities are excellent with top notch audio-visual equipment. The buffets served for breakfast, breaks and lunch feature ecclectic, tasty, healthful fare. The staff are highly professional and courteous

Room Tip: Always book a suite if possible, as the standard rooms are rather boring.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2012

Just completed a four day trip with the family visiting Washington DC. We stayed in connecting rooms -- junior suite to a deluxe room with two twin beds. Overall I would say the service was 5 star -- very friendly; accommodating; eager to please. They were always present yet not overbearing. There was a small problem at check-in when we arrived at 7pm and our room was not yet ready. The front desk apologized and quickly expedited the completion of our room. The suite was large and comfortable with a great walk-in shower. However, the connecting room for the kids was small and disappointing. The fan in the bathroom made a buzzing sound and the AC fan in the room was loud. One last point was the street noise that came into the room. The windows seem very thin and we could hear conversations on the street below, cars pulling in, sirens, etc... all night (and we were on the 9th floor). If it weren't for the under-impressive connecting room and street noise coming into the room I would have rated the hotel 5 star.

I would like to recognize the staff who handle breakfast in the morning and the doormen. They did a great job. They were top professionals and they know how to work with children -- even ours that are a little older.

As for location, it is excellent for exploring DC. It is a 10 minute walk to Foggy Bottom Metro or a 10 minute walk to Georgetown -- great street for shopping, restaurants and evening entertainment.

Room Tip: Ask about street noise and try to get a room that is not facing the front of the hotel.

We stayed at the Park Hyatt for a weekend getaway and to enjoy the cherry blossoms in bloom. Unfortunatly all the suits were sold out when we booked our hotel and we optted for a standared room. These rooms look NOTHING like the suites and need to be updated. The shower/tub was very difficult to get in and out of, even for someone that is in their mid- tweenties. I slipped twice during our stay and actually felt that it was a bit unsafe. The charis in the room are also dated and very uncomfortable. The hotel has a tastefully decorated lobby and a great hotel staff who were attentative and very friendly. The food at the Blue Duck Tavern is good but the deserts steal the show. We ordered room service for breakfast. Our meal arrived hot and on time but was a bit overpriced, even for hotel standards. $8 for a pot of tea, really? Bottomline, this is a great hotel, just opt for a suite and make your own tea!

Room Tip: Ask for a suite on a high floor.

This was our second trip here in 6 months. The things that needed to be improved have been, very much so. We were upgraded to a huge suite upon arrival. We arrived a little before 1, after taking the train from NYC. The room was ready and check in was smooth.

Huge suite, very quite with a large bath and shower (I missed my tub at the hotel in NYC)

Room service is totally over-priced, so for breakfast there is a place around the corner that serves bagels, eggs, bacon, croissants etc called Bread and Chocolate

Here's a huge improvement, every concierge we dealt with seemed to know about every current event going on in the city. We brought our 9 and 11 year old. One concierge (Shane)even gave his card to each child to put in their pocket in case they got lost. They could call hotel and bring them back. This guy knew about all the exhibits and times without needing to look it up. Also, he knew about tickets

The video game exhibit at the smithsonian American museum of art was my 11 year old boy's favorite. He asked to see it again the next day,too

The bellmen were great, and called you by name.

It was really hard to leave the place.

we stayed for 2 nights recently with our 2 young kids. it's a very nice hotel and the rooms are well-situated with the kids next door (suite with an adjoining room). we were facing the fairmount and on the 7th floor and hardly heard anything from outside other than the occasional sirens. the rooms are clean and the bathroom is awesome. the pool is great for the kids despite the odd route to get there. the breakfast was fantastic downstairs and the blue duck tavern food was also good.

my only complaint is the TV's in the room. there is no HD signal so you got plasmas with analog signal. i didn't complain to the front desk because i wasn't staying inside the hotel during the day but for a luxury hotel and today's world being broadcast in HD, there is no reason why the hotel can't have the HD signal. maybe it was down or something but i didn't bring it up so i am not sure.

all in all, a great stay and a good 30 min walk to the major attractions (white house, smithsonian, etc.) otherwise, the foggy bottom GWU metro is a 5 min walk to.

Room Tip: 3rd floor has alot of foot traffic since it's where you go for the pool. so you will get hallwa...
