“DC with our dog - the best in DC”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013 via mobile

As we on the one hand really like DC and on the other are travelling with our dog, we were always looking for a great pet-friendly hotel in this area. Finally we found it. The hotel has a great location next to a park, friendly staff and an excellent surrounding. The rooms designated for pet-owners are located on the second floor, very spacy and clean.
We never had the impression that our dog was just "tolerated". The price was reasonable, the bar and the restaurant outstanding and we will definitely come back!

We spent four nights at the Omni Shoreham Hotel between Christmas and New Years and can't say enough about this historic property. We found great rates at certain times of the year and this trip was no exception.Clean and quiet.wonderful staff, really helpful. Location, location, location! Right across the street from Woodley Park metro station. Lots of restaurants around the hotel, something for everyone, also have some shops and a CVS across the street. The restaurant and the lounge at the Omni are very, very good also.Great historic place to stay while visiting Washington DC.

After driving through the Dec. 26th blizzard, we were delighted by our reception at the Omni. Staff was pleasant and welcoming every time we entered the lobby. The lobby is just gorgeous and was nicely decorated for the holidays. Our room on the 6th floor was larger than most hotel rooms and the beds extremely comfortable. The headboard lights were a nice addition. Our niece had the adjoining room and the interior door between them made it easy to go back and forth. As members of their rewards program (free) we got free wireless Internet access.

The Metro is just a block away, as are several ethnic restaurants. My husband brought coffee in bed from the Starbucks in the lobby.

Our only complaint was that the water in the bathroom tasted odd - we brought in bottled water - and my husband felt the bathroom floor was too cold. Apparently the only heat in the bathroom is from the heatlamp. Also there is a definite lack of outlets for charging electronics.

Room Tip: On their website, the description of the rooms includes the square footage. Some rooms at the same pr...

We decided to attend the New Year's Gala here and it was an awesome event. We checked in at about 1400 on New Years Eve. Valet, Bellman, Front Desk, everyone that we encountered that worked at the hotel was top notch. We had a room on the 8th floor and I thought that might cause some issues as the hotel became filled with guests for the celebration. That was not a problem either. No long wait for the elevator. We had a private dinner in the VIP dining room. The food was EXCELLENT! Great property.

This is an Establish hotel in Washington DC. Seems like this hotel has been here forever. While the staff is outstanding and extremely friendly the hotel itself is very dated and in need of a renovation.
The location is great very close to the metro and restaurants. I noticed many places within the hotel in need of basic updates. Small things like basic furniture, walls, Linens etc. Also in the bathrooms you could hear everything going on in the next room through the vent. I personally prefer an updated more modern hotel.

We regret to hear that the historic feel of our hotel wasn't to your liking. Although the historic character of our hotel will always remain, we are excited to embark on updates of of our public areas later this year. Thank you for allowing us to read about your experience and we hope for a future opportunity to serve you.

We stayed here over New Years and I was pleasantly surprised what a great stay it was. AA Vacations booked our room and screwed up the dates. I called to add a room for our daughter when I found out. They fixed the dates and were great. We got to the hotel early and our room wasn't ready but they called us as soon it was. I can't say enough about how awesome the staff was. The hotel is old but the rooms didn't feel old. They were bigger than I expected. If we stay here again I will ask for a room on the backside, the front side has some street noise. It was a great stay.

We are loyal members of the Omni Select Guest Program and try to stay at Omni Hotels when we can (and the price is competitive). This was our first time trying the Omni in D.C. and although it was an okay stay, we will probably try another hotel next time.

The positives: The lobby of the Omni D.C. is beautiful. It has been kept up wonderfully and reminds you of the old grand dame hotels of the past. The rooms are also in excellent condition (we were given a very spacious room) with very nice furnishings. The locations is good if you want a neighborhood feel - it is in Woodley Park where there are lots of restaurants and shops) and 1/2 mile to the National Zoo. All of this made for a wonderful stay.

The negatives: Although the room was very spacious (by any standards), the bathroom was very small - it was hard for our family of 4 for to have room for all our towels and toiletries. The staff was very nice - always greeted with a smile and offer to help; but, so much of their information was incorrect. Yes, they always strove to correct the problem, but it would have been nice to just have it work right away. For example, we were told that we had a room with a view of Rock Creek Park, but in fact, we looked over the front of the hotel (huge awning); one morning, we had ordered tea and juice and we were give a glass of juice with an empty tea cup - no water or tea bag (yes, they nicely agreed to send up the tea, but when it came, it was still missing the milk and sugar). The concierge incorrectly told us that you could only buy metro passes per ride, but in fact, you can purchase unlimited day passes. We also found out (all on our own) that there is a special bus (the Circulator) which will take you into the city for $1 - it would have been nice for the concierge to have known about these options. And we had to ask more than once for them to correct a mistaken parking charge.

As for location, yes, it is nice to be near some restaurants and the Zoo, but the Omni D.C. is a bit of a distance from the Mall and more of the D.C. attractions we usually visit. Also, there is no indoor pool, which we would have liked. Finally, the Select Guest concierge was not very responsive to our e-mails and did not help very much.

All of these negatives by themselves are pretty small, but when we look back at the stay, they kind of added up to an average feeling. My guess is that the next time we visit D.C., we will likely look around for another hotel to try.
