“Elegant as Always”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2012

As welcoming as always, the Omni Shoreham Hotel never disappoints. This elegant old world hotel, right in the middle of the Dupont Circle/ National Zoo area is upscale and down to earth at the same time. Perfect for families as well as conventioneers. The common spaces are stunning, the open dining area is beautiful, and the rooms are spacious and well appointed. When traveling with grandkids, they were treated in their room to a backpack filled with crayons, paper and projects, and at bedtime, chocolate chip cookies and milk arrived to their surprise and delight! When I've stayed in warmer months, the pool was a welcome respite for my family. One of my favorite hotels anywhere!

Room Tip: Arrive an hour ahead of check-in and ask for an upgrade at front desk.

The hotel staff and environment was wonderful. I sure am glad that I was there with additional financial support because everything was so expensive! First night I arrived, I ordered a burger, diet coke and cup of soup which was around fifty bucks! I had no problems with wifi access like other post. I also found the entire place to be very clean. The bed was very comfy! Only bad part of the trip was my last night when neighbors and their loud kids arrived and kept slamming the door to their room... Bam! Bam! Over and over...

This is a very nice hotel located a short walk away from the Woodley Park Metro stop, which makes sightseeing throughout Washington very easy. The long list of prestigious guests and the use of the site in a feature film were impressive. If you're planning to stay here or at another Omni property, be sure to sign up for membership in their Gold program. You receive free internet access and bottled water. The network repeatedly dropped me throughout the visit. The nature of the conference that we were attending meant that just about every participant had an electronic device, but you'd think that they'd have a more robust system. I was initially assigned to the wrong type of room, and the door locks didn't work properly on the second one. These minor problems, which were quickly addressed, are accounted for along with the inadequacy of internet service in the "Service" rating.

Room Tip: Make sure that you carefully specifiy what type of bed you want. I had specified a double room and g...

This hotel cost more than I usually pay, but I stayed here because the conference I was attending was at the hotel. I loved it! It has an old fashioned elegance and charm. My room was gorgeous, large and extremely comfortable. I loved it that the windows actually open. Great attention to detail; nothing felt shoddy or mass produced. Near some excellent restaurants; Lebanese Taverna 2 blocks away has great and very interesting food-try the marinated baby eggplants with pomegranate seeds in the stuffing--! and First City cafe across the street is dynamite at all hours. The hotel is right on Rock Creek Park, and 2 blocks from the metro station. Loved it!

Very nice hotel! Great facilities for meetings/conferences; very nice rooms; though the building is older, you'd never know it! Nice fitness center; great bar & restaurants; I walked downtown one night across the Duke Ellington bridge and felt safe. Close to other neighborhood restaurants. A good choice, over all!

Room Tip: ask for a room at the end of a hallway, away from elevators.

I stayed at this hotel for a convention and was amazed at how HUGE the rooms are. There was a display in the lobby showing the hotel "through the years" dating back to the early 20th Century showcasing Presidents and celebrities who stayed at the hotel. It truly has an "old world" feel to it; a grant lobby, spiral staircases leading to one of the ballrooms. Lovely.

The rooms are, as mentioned, very large, with ample space. I ordered room service and was given the wrong dessert by mistake. The room service waiter was VERY gracious, apologetic and very quickly rectified the error with a great attitude and warm smile.

The food served at the event I attended was nothing short of fantastic with wonderful service as well.

Really my only criticism would be the little gift shop which had really high prices - but that's common with most hotels isn't it?

This hotel is a strange combination of the old and the new. The building itself is more than 75 years old which is reflected in some aspects of the hotel layout and rooms. Our rooms (we had two) were larger than one usually finds in a new hotel. One of them had an 8 foot by 8 foot 'room' between the bedroom and small bathroom. I cannot imagine its function except as a 'maids room' in the old days. It had no windows and no real furniture. The bathroom was small and we had to turn sideways to fit between the door and the sink/vanity. Not a great feature and certainly a problem for overweight Americans. The other room was larger with a bigger bathroom. One room had good water pressure, the other did not. One problem was the hot water in the shower got cooler at times but this lasted only for a minute or two.
The furnishings were new but made to look as if they were installed in the 1950's. We had the usual flat screen tv sitting on a dresser whose (apparent) style I haven't seen in years--yet it contained both a fridge behind one door and coffee/tea making equipment behind another. A clock radio with a jack for an iPod or iPhone but chairs and desks from the 1950's.
Breakfast (including the buffet) was good and relatively inexpensive (cheap for Washington). The service in both the dining room and in our room was excellent. We had very little interaction with the front desk but the staff were friendly and cooperative.
The location a block from the Metro is a positive. The neighborhood does not have as many restaurants or shops as Dupont Circle, but it can satisfy most simple needs.
Given the rate we paid, the high quality of the bed and service and the convenient location we would certainly stay there again.
