When I first saw the outside of this hotel I felt I was in the Moscow of the 1930s, surrounded by the giants of Stalin's constructivist efforts -- massive, gray, with lots of small windows. It reminded me of Moscow State University and a few other buildings in the Soviet imperial style. I am not saying this to compliment the hotel. Although its size and architecture do impress, they also carry an air of the imperial grandeur of the Cold War, when USA and USSR were trying hard to impress each other as well as the rest of the world with their powers. If going back into the not so far away past is what you yearn for, this hotel is for you. For me, it falls somewhere in the awkward gap between the classic vintage hotels of the turn of the 20th century and the slick modern high rises of the end of the same century.
As for the actual hotel experience -
Here are the pluses: Rooms are very spacious and seemed clean; it is easy to regulate the heating; nice large TVs; Concierges were very helpful and friendly; Lots of great affordable restaurants on Connecticut Ave just around the corner.
Minuses: Very long corridors and VERY FEW slow elevators; Not really walking distance from most central attractions (the Mall etc); slightly overpriced; it's getting old...

The Omni Shoreham is an exquisite hotel is a great area. The hotel lobby is decorated in the 1930's theme - elaborate. The rooms are tasteful and the main restaurant serves quality food. In addition, the exercise facility is top-notch. The hotel is near the Metro and several good restaurants.

I have three complaints: because both my roommate and I had our laptops, I had to move the nightstand to access power, which is not unusual. However, it did not appear that anyone had dusted that area for years. It was pretty gross. My other complaint is the elevator. Although there were at least three conventions at the hotel, only one elevator was working at any given time. There frequently were twenty or more people waiting at the elevators. My final complaint is the stairwell. Because of the elevator congestion, we used the stairs - five flights isn't all that bad. But the stairwell, although definitely used by guests on a regular basis, was dirty and dingy.

Despite my complaints, I would stay here again if the price was right.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at The Omni Shoreham Hotel. We would like to apologize that there was an issue with the elevators during your time with us. On most occasions we have all elevators in working order and regret that this was not the case during your visit. We will be sharing your comments regarding the cleanliness behind the nightstand and in the stairwells with our housekeeping team and regret that this was a concern. Thank you again for allowing us to understand where we have opportunity for improvement and we hope to welcome you back again soon.

We stayed at this hotel in august 2010. As soon as you walk in the hotel hits you at how beautiful it is. The huge vases of fresh roses that seem to be changed every couple of days are outstanding and smell beautiful. The room we stayed in was a lovely size and had a balcony overlooking the main street. The gardens are wonderful, beautifully tended and colourful. Every member of staff that we had dealings with was professional and helpful.
We would love to return one day.

I found this hotel to be excellent in just about every respect. Efficient, friendly staff, comfortable rooms and beds, and really excellent facilities. I would recommend it especially for business travellers.

I stayed here during a US Department of Education conference and paid the government rate of $183 per night.

The hotel was absolutely beautiful. I liked that each room was just a little different in its layout and design. It gave it character. The bar was lovely. Dark wood panelling lined the walls. A very classic, rich look.

I only had one breakfast at the restaurant. It was a $20 buffet with fresh fruit, made to order omlets, meats, etc.

There IS free wifi if you sign up for their select guest loyalty program. That also gets you a free beverage delivered each morning: coffee, juice, tea, etc. they so have in room coffee makers.

Across the street is a great little restaurant called Open City. Give it a try!

I contacted security concerning something missing from my room. The security manager acted like he was on top of things and would be responsive. I have called since returning home, and nobody will call me back. I am very disappointed in the security department at this hotel. My next step is to call the general manager and let him know of how poorly his security department treat guests. I would have been satisfied with a simple return call of "we did our job, we asked our staff, and everyone questioned said they did not see or touch your item." That is not the case with this hotel's security. Zero responsiveness! I will not stay there again for fear something else will go a miss and get zero help.

Room Tip: If you stay here, lock your items up - even little things. They may go missing and you will not get...
