“Love this hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

I recently spent 4 nights at this lovely boutique hotel near Dupont Circle. I was attending a conference at the Hilton around the corner. At first, I was disappointed there were no rooms available at the Hilton, but I'm actually glad it worked out that way. First of all, I love boutique hotels, but The Normandy is especially wonderful. The staff there is friendly and professional. Kudos to Charlie, Jamel, Andrew and Ahmad for their help during my stay. The rooms are very comfortable and decorated beautifully. The bathrooms have L'Occitane toiletries! And, on top of all that, every evening there is a free wine and cheese. It really was a fantastic stay and I would gladly stay there again. I highly recommend! You will not be disappointed! :)

I couldn't help but be skeptical when I found a hotel that looked upscale, close to downtown DC for a reasonable price. The hotel exceeded expectations in customer service, in free valet service and the fantastic conditions of the rooms. The marble showers and modern motion-sensor "night lights" were two unexpected surprises, along with complementary wine hour. It is very quaint and tucked away on a residential road and minutes from plenty of areas to eat and shop. If you are looking for an affordable, clean, private place from which you can easily access downtown DC but avoid the bustle-- this is the place!

Room Tip: I'm sure all the rooms are great.

The Normandy Hotel is a relatively small hotel I'm a quiet and very pleasant location, perfect if you are attending a conference at the Hilton, but do not want to stay there. I never tried the breakfast, but the room was very nice and clean. A few small, nice details were the Nespresso machine in the room; that the soap, shampoo etc. was l'Occitane (one of my own favorite brands); and the smart floor light that turns on automatically in the bathroom (really helpful when getting up in the middle of the night). The staff was very, very friendly and helpful, and the wine hour is such a charming thing.

And yes, the elevator is old, but works just fine, and the common areas are more like home than the Hilton. I will most certainly return to The Normandy.

The room was comfortable and big. It is on a perfect neighborhood, very calm and quiet, also, not so far away from the city center. The staff was very helpfully and politely. If sometime I come back to Washington I'll go to The Normandy Hotel.

we arrived late after a long drive and the moment we walked in the hotel it felt like coming home. which was exactly what we needed father some long days in NYC. the service was great, rooms where clean and comfy and last but not least the hotel is located in a beautiful neighborhood.
I definitely recommend this place and if i will ever return to Washington i know for sure where to stay.

When we got into the room, the a/c was on max and it was freezing as is often the case in hotels, but the problem was the control on the wall was not functional and did not control the temperature at all. I had to call room service for help. The young man told me that they were in the middle of renovations and showed me a little hidden button very hard to access to control the air temperature. At least we could open the windows because the room also smelled of mildew.
The free wi/fi was appreciated, but the $40 a day parking is a little steep. Next time I will stick to a chain like Marriott courtyard where there are usually no bad surprises and breakfast is included.

Room Tip: Make sure that your room is not in the middle of renovations!

Dear viv86, Thank you writing your review of our hotel. I would like to apologize for the issues you had while staying with us. This is not typical of most of our guests experiences. There are a couple of rooms where we are updating the thermostats and wiring. Unfortunately, you had one of them. Regarding parking, the price you paid is fairly typical for the area. Most hotels, in the area, range between $40 and $60 per night for parking, tax inclusive. We do try to inform everyone on as many platforms that we can so that there are no surprises. We do hope you reconsider and give us another chance when your travels bring you back through the area.
Kindest Regards,

I am conflicted about the Normandy. We enjoyed our stay here. Located in a beautiful area north of Dupont Circle, this small older hotel has a lot to recommend it but several issues. The common areas are cramped but quaint. The breakfast was adequate and came with our package . Not worth $12 otherwise. Very limited selection. Wine and cheese are served 6 to 7 each night which was nice. Our room was oddly shaped with a hallway to the washroom. Cable service was mostly out. Nicely decorated. Like most other rooms, the view was a brick wall.
Valet parking is the parking option and was at times chaotic. Our check-in was not smooth as we were given a Queen instead of our reserved King size bed. We returned to the front desk and Charles first question was ,did we mess up the room, not an apology for giving us the wrong room. The hotel has a slow single small elevator for guests and staff alike. Small stuff like that makes it hard to give this place a top rating.
Perhaps this place deserves 3.5 stars but the $180 fee for 3 days of parking after per-paying our room, brings it down rather then up.

Dear richstowe, Thank you for taking the time to write your review about The Normandy. We were very happy to read that you enjoyed your overall stay with us. However, we would like to apologize for the issues that you encountered during that enjoyable stay like giving you the wrong bed type, limited breakfast offerings, DirecTV issues and the cost of parking. We're glad we finally got you into your requested bed type. Breakfast is something that we are in the midst of changing. We hope to have that sorted out in the next couple of weeks. With DirecTV, we are at the mercy of the signal but we did call someone out to make sure the equipment was functioning properly and, thankfully, it is. As far as parking goes, we charge $34 plus tax but it comes with unlimited in and out access. Compared to the immediate neighborhood, that is on the low side. Parking in DC is at a premium but we will always do our best to keep the price as low as possible for our hotel guests. We do hope that when you come back to DC, you'll give us another try.
Kindest Regards,
George Ochoa
