“Great hotel but construction site nearby”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

It's a great place to stay for a few days when visiting Washington DC with a lower price per night than most of the hotels downtown. However, there is a construction site right next to the hotel and they start working at 7am every day. You won't need an alarm clock to wake up. But I guess it is not the hotel's fault so I rated the property as very good.

Room Tip: If you get a courtyard room, try to change it because it faces the construction site.

Due to some rain damage the hotel received we were not able to stay there, but the front desk man met us at the door and had already made alternative arrangements to accommodate us. From what we saw the inn was well located and very nice from the outside and lobby. Perhaps on our next dc trip we will stay here.

We have stayed in the Morrison Clark a few times previously and have really enjoyed it. This time we were given a room in the lower level right off of the courtyard where they are doing construction. We are from the west coast and got in to take a nap after checkin only to find jack hammering right outside of our room. I asked for earplugs that evening and was told there should be some in our room which there was not. The next morning we were woken up at 7:20am with jack hammering again right outside of our room.

We asked for other options but were told there was nothing they could do except put us in another room right off of the construction. The sad thing is nobody we dealt with was apologetic about the circumstances. I understand the construction is not within their control, but felt that we could have been treated better.

We decided to check out early and stay at another hotel for the remander of our stay.

Room Tip: If you are coming you should find out if they are still under construction. There is construction a...

We booked this hotel using a discount website so we expected the typical tiny room in some inconvenient part of the hotel. We will definitely stay in this hotel when we return to Washington. The room was huge and beautiful with large furniture, a big hanging chandelier, false fireplace, big bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and the room was nice and clean. We had a big walk out balcony with a bistro set that was nice to sit at. We also had a very nice breakfast one morning at the hotel restaurant. The front desk staff was also very helpful with answering any of our question. We had a great stay. The internet was quite slow and there was construction outside our room but you can't fault the hotel for that.

I stayed at the Morrison Clark Historic Inn recently and I have to say it was one the most charming hotels I have stayed in. You have to remember that the hotel was created by joining to historic homes built in 1864 - so you are not getting a modern hotel. If you like quirky old hotels, this is a wonderful place. My room was quite large, with a balcony. Unfortunately the only access to the balcony was through a large window in the bathroom so I never did venture out onto the balcony. This is not a hotel for you if you have mobility issues as there are about 10 stairs on the outside leading up to the hotel and five more from the lobby to the elevator.

The historic Inn is located about 3 blocks from the convention center and within walking distance of numerous great restaurants and pubs. We walked all over from our hotel; its only about 30 minutes to the White House. The Metro station is located at the Convention Center so that was handy when we went to the baseball game.

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and the rooms were extremely clean. If I ever get back to Washington, I would definitely stay here again.

The Morrison Clark is a charming, older hotel with very clean rooms. All of the staff we dealt with were extremely pleasant. However the noise we experienced at the hotel during our stay in May 2013 made for an unpleasant experience overall. We were given a suite facing the courtyard, and outside our bedroom window was an alleyway. Starting at 5:30 each morning, garbage trucks could be heard very loudly beeping outside our window, followed shortly after by construction vehicles. There is major construction going on next door right now. We checked to see if we could switch rooms but there were no others available. Perhaps in a different room this hotel would be good but avoid the rooms facing the courtyard as they are quite noisy very early in the morning. We woke to loud noise before 6AM each day of our stay here.

First I want to say that this was one of the most interesting hotels I have ever stayed in. 10+ foot ceilings, solid carved wood furniture, pretty nice location. The sheer historic value is probably worth a stay. But, the facility is a little dated, the internet is incredibly slow and as you would expect with a historic piece it definitely shows its age. Staff was nice, beds were average, climate control was barely adequate. I almost rated this a 3 but it's a historic hotel, it was built in 1864, the age it shows is intentional so if you don't like history and are just looking for a place to stay you might be disappointed.

P.S. - they still use real keys, which is cool, until you have to figure out which suit pocket to carry it in and try not to forget at a security checkpoint.
