“Will stay again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012 via mobile

This is not the place for those who want lots of modern amenities. However, if you want clean, reasonable prices and an excellent location along with historic charm, this is the place for you. We just finished our second visit and we'll be back. My only request to the hotel would be for a coffee station with great coffee made available in the mornings. That in room stuff just doesn't cut it.

Thank you for your comments about your recent stay. I am pleased to learn from your review that you enjoyed our convenient location. Our prime location provides our guests a seamless way to explore the Washington, DC area and is within walking distance of many area attractions and two Metro stations.
A more robust version of our in room coffee which is roasted locally, is always available in our Restaurant. We will be happy to deliver it to your room on your return visit.
Your loyalty to the Morrison Clark Inn is greatly appreciated. Hope to see you soon.

THis resort was a great hidden secret. It's not one of the newly renivated well known hotel name brands, so dont expect that when you go, but the level of guest service will be better than any hotel out there. Because of the size of the hotel, the attention the employees gave was a A+ on my report card. Its an old hotel, thats why its a Historic Landmark. The rooms are a little dated, the decor is a themed to the historic aspect of the hotel, but the Bathrooms are very clean and the beds are very comfortable. Better than most hotel beds I've ever slept in! The price is what attracted me to this resort, it was a bonus to get the level of service and be in such a great location. I will definitly visit again!

Thank you for your comments about the service provided by the staff, I know that they will be happy to hear your feedback. The staff and the historic features of the Inn make the Morrison Clark a truly unique hotel experience. We often get great feedback from our patrons on the beds with 100% cotton Frette bedding that give it a luxurious feel.
Come back and see us again.

We were looking for a decent central place to stay in Washington under 200$. We booked well in advance for Morrison-Clark Inn because it looked so charming. Unfortunately, our experience wasn’t very good...

Arriving at 10.30pm after a long flight from Europe and completely exhausted, we had to carry our 2 large suitcases alone through the front door stairs (I assume the luggage assistant didn’t see us come from the lateral door). However, after checking-in he simply disappeared, so we had to carry our luggage up to the room alone again.

When we arrived, the room in the 4th floor (406) seemed rather small, not as charming as in the pictures but not too bad either. Bed was comfortable but that was it. There was no Wifi in our room (though other parts of the hotel had wifi) but a cable connection worked well enough. You had no view and could not open your curtain as windows faced a corridor which led to other rooms. You could only watch TV from bed and with the armoire open and you could not walk between it and the bed; hence you could not get to the bathroom without closing the armoire and “closing” the TV. The lighting was poor in the bathroom - there was no light in the shower area which made it a bit claustrophobic. Temperature in the shower was constantly changing too. Towels were small and one of them had a tear. There was a bug in the floor.

But the WORST part was trying to sleep with the constant low-pitch noise that came from the machines on the roof above us until 11.30pm and from 7am! Even with our earplugs on it was a hard thing to do… After 3 nights we were even more exhausted than when we arrived!

I don’t consider that we are too picky and I understand all this in a cheap hostel, but inacceptable for a 189$/night Hotel! From the reviews we read, I believe there might be better rooms than ours, but I would still not risk it and would not recommend it at all… AVOID!

Room Tip: If you HAVE TO stay in this Inn, avoid top floor, bring good earplugs and insecticide

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a candid review. We’re sorry that you received service that was less than satisfactory. It is our goal to consistently provide superior service and accommodations and your comments are very important to us. The feedback we receive from our valued guests, like you, enables us to target problem areas and take the necessary actions to ensure similar situations can be avoided in the future. Our historic hotel does have a range of room sizes and styles, no two are alike. I hope that you will give us the opportunity to pair you with a style that suits your needs.
We have had the room and the entire hallway checked for insects and have been unable to locate any. However our vendor provided a preventative service out of an excess of caution.

Regards,

Maggie Edwards

Tired of glass and steel hotels and long for something better? Look no further the Morrison-Clark is a very quaint old style real hotel. Just got back and want to go again the staff is very attentive and the rooms are a little older but very clean. We were given a two room suite upgrade at no cost overlooking the court yard and offered a little larger suite but it was directly on the street. Can't say enough about how special this hotel is.......it looks like your favorite movie star from an old black and white film should pass by. Call directly for weekend specials.

Room Tip: Overlooking the court yard and away from the garage door on the ground floor if you are a late sleep...

I am so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. It is always gratifying to hear good things from our guests. Our staff is great and completely focused on personalizing your hotel experience. It is what they do best and I will relay your compliments to them. Our unique historic hotel does straddle two worlds, old world charm and new world amenities. We do often have special rates that are offfered by calling or checking our web site. Make that return trip soon.

Plus: It is a historic inn. The staff was good. The dinner tasted good, but not a good value. Able to manipulate the heating/cooling easily.
con: The standard room was a tight fit (especially since we were holed up for Hurricane Sandy). Even with the hurricane announced days in advance the hotel didn't stock any food for guests to serve a buffet or something. The bed was really uncomfortable. There were parts of the bathroom that looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. Not a lot of storage room... it is an older room and they rely on an amoire. No microwave. The internet connection was horrible and in this day and age it is inexcusable. We tried wireless and wired.

Room Tip: Go for an upgrade from the standard... to small.

I am so sorry that your experience at the Morrison Clark was adversely affected by Hurricane Sandy. Most of our Food and Beverage staff were unable to arrive for their scheduled shifts due to the complete shutdown of the Metro sytem in the DC area on both Monday and Tuesday October 29th and 30th. The Managers who were on site did an exceptional job of providing full housekeeping service, a complimentary buffet on Monday that included hot and cold beverages, fresh fruit, cheeses, full bar service as well as options for restaurants that were offering delivery to the hotel to the 70 plus guests who were staying at the Inn during the storm. On Tuesday morning we offered an expanded Continental Breakfast Buffet as well as the a la carte breakfast menu. By 2pm Tuesday the Metro had re-opened and we were fully staffed once again for Dinner service.
We often get compliments on the quality of our Restaurant food and with an average entree price of less than $20.00 are considered a very good value in the area. I would really appreciate additional information about your experience if you are able to contact me at the hotel.
I have also forwarded your concerns about our internet connection to the engineering team for follow up. It is through the feedback of our guests that we learn to improve our product and I appreciate your comments.

We had a room booked but the airconditioning wasn't working so we were treated to an upgrade for the duration of our stay. Staff were helpful and very pleasant to deal with. We had a wonderful stay and a delightful meal in the restaurant on our last night. It was a delightful change from the usual branded hotels with neutral decor, the period styling was nicely done and not over the top and the modern luxuries were all there too. Highly recommended by us.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the road are best if you are a light sleeper but hotel is in an area away from shops...

Thank you for your comments and I am happy to see that the staff did their usual great job after your bumpy start. I am so happy you enjoyed your stay. I feel that we do offer a different experience than the large chain or big box hotels, a bit more style and personalizrd service.
Hope to see you again soon.

I found the Morrison Clark when looking for a less expensive hotel near central Washington DC. My room was small but well-appointed and immaculate. The staff was consistently cheerful and helpful. Complimentary wifi was welcome, as well as excellent room service food from the restaurant. My only qualification is that the hotel is not a good choice for people with mobility limitations; there is a full flight of steep steps leading to the front entrance, and rooms and hallways (as would be expected in a historic building) are not generously sized.

Thank you for your review, your compliments are appreciated. As a historic property we have tried to maintain the integrity of the original townhomes and the history of the building in order to offer our guests an experience and service from days gone past. There is a street level door which can be used as an entrance for anyone who has a difficult time managing the stairs.
I will pass along your comments regarding the food and cleanliness to our kitchen and housekeeping teams.
