“Good value at charming boutique hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

I found the Morrison Clark when looking for a less expensive hotel near central Washington DC. My room was small but well-appointed and immaculate. The staff was consistently cheerful and helpful. Complimentary wifi was welcome, as well as excellent room service food from the restaurant. My only qualification is that the hotel is not a good choice for people with mobility limitations; there is a full flight of steep steps leading to the front entrance, and rooms and hallways (as would be expected in a historic building) are not generously sized.

Thank you for your review, your compliments are appreciated. As a historic property we have tried to maintain the integrity of the original townhomes and the history of the building in order to offer our guests an experience and service from days gone past. There is a street level door which can be used as an entrance for anyone who has a difficult time managing the stairs.
I will pass along your comments regarding the food and cleanliness to our kitchen and housekeeping teams.

Quick stay at this lovely hotel for one night while in DC on business. Due to conventions, several of the large hotels in downtown were full. This charming historic hotel was a refreshing change from the standard "brand" hotels. I especially loved the antique furniture in the rooms, very authentic historic feel. Friendly and accommodating staff.

Small room with street view (shielded by large tree, v. pleasant), comfortable bed and small, poorly lit bathroom, but immaculately clean and totally functional. TV in closet, very small screen. Windows open easily. Only paid internet access.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Only valet parking, quite pricey. Steep 10-12 step staircase to lobby from street level. Going out the side door to L street, the step is directly behind the door - a foot long drop for the distracted - there is a small sign to "watch your step", of course and the knob on the door is quite low, indicating the door ends below the hotel floor level, but I did almost tumble down the stairs. Got wrongly charged for minibar use.

Room Tip: ask for a street-facing room on a high floor to minimize A/C etc noise and sight

I am pleased to learn from your review that you enjoyed the convenient location of The Morrison Clark Inn. We are just two short walking blocks from the Convention Cemter. We do offer street level access to avoid the exterior steps, just give us a call and we will make that entrance available at any time. We offer both wireless and wired internet service in the hotel but both are complimentary. I am very sorry you were incorrectly charged for mini bar service but I do see that the charges have been reversed. If you need any assistance with any aspect of your stay please feel free to contact me at the hotel anytime.

To be fair - great service. The concierge was very helpful and friendly, but then saying that it was his job. This was a one night stay for us on a one month road trip in North America. Rubbish location. Rooms were very tiny and neither of us had a good sleep. A shame because it had the potential to be amazing!

Dear Ms. Sally,

I am saddened that you were not satisfied with your stay in our historic hotel. We are often complimented on our location. It would appear that we did not provide you with the information you needed to enjoy our diverse and interesting neighborhood. Our guest service team is always ready and willing to asist with information about restaurants, shopping and directions to the many sights in our great city. Since your reservation was almost a year ago I was unable to verify the room type you occupied but we do offer a range of styles and sizes at our hotel, one of which would surely fit your needs. If I can be of assistance in any way please feel free to contact me at the hotel.

Regards,

Maggie Edwards

My wife and I just stayed at the Morrison-Clark and were not disappointed. This was our first stay there and we found the historical atmosphere very pleasant. The room was clean, furnished with antiques, and quiet (once we had unplugged the minifridge which was in the large armoire). The staff was helpful. The hotel is located a 25-minute walk from the museums on the mall, a 30-35 minute walk from Union Station, 30 minutes from Dupont Circle and 15 minutes from the restaurants on upper 14th street. It would be very convenient for someone attending an event at the DC convention center.

I am pleased to learn from your review that you enjoyed the convenient location of The Morrison Clark Inn. With our prime Downtown location, we are able to provide our guests a central base from which to explore all that Washington, D.C. has to offer.
You are correct that convention attendees will find us ideally located, just two short blocks away.
I will have our maintenance team check on that mini bar fridge.

Maggie Edwards

I really loved the historic feel of the place, antiques and old fashioned but it may not be your cup of tea.

I had a lovely room, with its own sitting room, bedroom and bathroom. All slightly faded but very comfortable, and very in keeping with the historic feel of the place.

Lovely bright breakfast room, and a real belle epoc feel to the restaurant. Plus great food.

They even organised a great deal on a town car to the airport.

Room Tip: The higher the floor the better, as traffic noise early in the morning is an issue.

Thank you for your succinct summation of who we are at the Morrison Clark....historic and friendly. Our unique hotel built to include two townhomes circa 1864 make our property different than most hotels in Washington, DC. The tall windows, carved marble fireplaces and chandeliers, all features of the breakfast area and dining room are original to those homes. Our staff is here to make that unique experience memorable and I will make sure to share your comments with them.
Come back and see us again.

The historic interior of hotel is really beautiful and cozy. The hotel staff were extremely nice and friendly. Seems the staff headcount present wasn't very high and same people doing lots of different stuff -- and for room service it was available only for 9 PM daily, I guess for same reasons...

The location of the hotel is ideal for Washington walk-around. It is only like 4-5 blocks away from the center where the sights are. There was only valet parking available. Near the hotel within 1-2 blocks there were also pharmacy, grocery store and coin laundry, if looking for service which the hotel isn't offering...

The rooms were beautiful, however REALLY small... The room was equipped with a minibar. There was no wireless internet in the room and the public area wireless was poor. Breakfast was good.

Despite the lack of WiFi which I do think is important criteria for a good hotel, I would come back to stay in this hotel, just for the beautiful interior and the good location.
