While the location of this older property is as good as ever, the same cannot be said about the accomodations. Since Loews deflagged this hotel, it has been ignored and left to decay. Rooms have very dated, and often mismatched, fixtures like tiny B&W TV sets in the bathroom and 19 inch models in the armoires, most likely stolen from the Smithsonian across the street. Filthy carpet, peeling wallpaper, and even holes in the wall complete the horror show. Since no newspapers are delivered, the only thing you'll receieve under your door is an exorbitant bill with many delights such as charges for internet access and $1.00 per page for incoming faxes. With D.C.'s great transportation system, pick another location from which to access all Washington has to offer...you'll be glad you did.

This was my first visit to the DC area. The price of the hotel was what attracted me since I am on a budget. The nightly rate was approx $78.00 dollars. Skeptical at first but went ahead and booked since I was told the hotel was in a decent area. Location was great. It is within walking distance of the National Mall, Metro, Shopping, etc. Lobby was beautiful. Upper floors appeared clean but rather dated and did not match the modern and updated decor of the lobby. Staff was very helpful and pleasant. Had to wait a bit for valet...it always seemed as if they were short handed...but never the less always pleasant and helpful. Although decent it would not be my first choice on my next visit to DC.

Booked the L'Enfant thru Priceline. Great deal. Hotel staff was very courteous, allowed check-in before 1 pm. Had requested a room with two doubles, room had a king. Immediately corrected with a room with two doubles on 12th floor, incredible view of river. Forgot toothbrush, called and one was delivered within a few minutes. Room was very nice, looked and smelled clean, great shower, really comfortable bed. Great location with Metro just downstairs. Didn't eat in any of the hotel's restuarants but did eat at food court. Would definitely stay here again.

My boyfriend surprised me with tickets to see the closing night performance of "Les Miserables" at the National Theatre in Washington D.C. the weekend of January 20-22, 2006. We thought the hotel was just lovely, but the front desk staff is the WORST either one of us has ever encountered! IF you could get someone at the front desk to answer the phone (which was very rare), it was very clear you were disturbing them. In addition to being very rude, they also gave terribly incorrect directions. In fairness, the room service workers were very pleasant. We will return to D.C. many times, but never to the L'Enfant Hotel.

This hotel is way overpriced for what it offers. The rooms are reasonably nice and the staff is very nice.
The pillows are awful!!!!
There is a metro stop located in a mall beneath the hotel. It's great during the day when it's crowded and plenty of restaurants to eat at - during the evening it's a different story. Most of the stores and restaurants are closed and there weren't many people in that area when we used it during a weeknight.
Overall an ok hotel but I won't be going back.

My husband and I were celebrating our 7th wedding anniversary and decided to book a room at the L'enfant plaza hotel thru ---- On Dec 31, 2005(New years Eve). The room we stayed in was very clean and comfortable but had no view. The staff acted in a professional manner and although it costs us $25.00(which we were not told when booking the room) the valet parking was great.Their was one slight problem....The elevators seem to stop running properly after awhile and our room was on the 12th floor(12-159). The hotel did not have a stairway you could easily access unless you went thru the emergency exit and walked around the back of the hotel. But I can truly say we enjoyed our entire evening and would stay at this hotel again the next time we go to Washington Dc.

On 30 December we booked a room at the L'Enfant Plaza Hotel through Hotels.com [via their toll free number] for New Year's Eve. They have it listed as three and a half star hotel. We booked a smoking room with a king bed.

When we arrived at the hotel on 31 December we found the parking garage to be quite annoying and a bit confusing. We found the elevator to the hotel lobby and sat and waiting with our baggage for the elevator doors to open. After realizing that was not going to happen, we found the stairs. We had to walk up three flights of stairs, take an elevator down one floor, find a door that was unlocked and then walk outside and back into the hotel lobby. Once inside we saw a sign on the little elevator that said "Out of Service."

Checking in was another adventure. It was approximately 14:15. The rude front desk staffer tried to give us a smoking room with two full beds. We told him that we already paid for a smoking room with a king bed. He said that one would not be ready until 15:00 so we agreed to come back later. He took our baggage and said he would hold it for us until we returned. We asked about the parking garage. Their sign states they close at 18:00. The staffer then gave us the wonderful news that if we wanted to use our car after 18:00 that we would have to pay $25.00 for their valet service. He also told us that the metered street parking was not safe. Nice racket! We commented that it has not stated anything about the $25.00 valet requirement on the Hotels.com website and the rude staffer replied that they have no control over what Hotels.com tells its customers or not. We then stated that it is not mentioned anywhere on the L'Enfant Plaza website either. He replied that it did not matter and that is just the way things are. Then another hotel staffer gave us horribly wrong directions on how to get back to the parking garage and had us walking all over the closed shopping below the hotel and ending up on the opposite end of the parking garage. We had not been there even forty-five minutes when we went to leave the parking garage. Their sign states it is $7.00 [$6 something plus tax] for the first hour. We were charged $9.00. I guess there is that $2.00 extra charge for out of state hotel guests.

Upon returning to the hotel that evening we handed over our car keys to the valet people and went to check in. The valet people gave us a claim ticket and told us to call them ten minutes before we needed the car. The front desk staffer told us they would have to bring our baggage to us, that we could not get it ourselves. When we got to our room, 14-171, we saw the "Thank you for not smoking" sign and called the front desk. We explained that we reserved and already paid for a smoking room. The staffer told us that there were no more smoking rooms with king beds, but we could have a smoking room with a smaller bed - at the same cost. After going back and forth about what we already paid for we had them bring us an ashtray.

We were on the fourteenth floor. They charge $5.00/hour for their wireless internet connection. The signal of that connection was one bar at best. That might be passable if they were not charging for the connection or calling it "high speed." Then we found out that the Ethernet connection I had read about online was only available in their business center, also for a charge.

When we decided to head out to dinner we called the valet number and requested our car. They told us it would be ready in ten minutes. Well, it took them at least twenty-seven minutes to get our car. After waiting in the room after we called we went and waited outside in front of the hotel for a while. Then a valet person asked if we were waiting for our car. When we said yes and told him our claim ticket number he looked confused and then ran back inside. It seems they forgot to get our car. Maybe they were too busy with the one other person also waiting for their car.

After dinner we decided to go back to the hotel and just spend NYE in the hotel bar or their lounge with anyone else that might be there. When we got back to the room we noticed that maid service had been there. They threw away the fortune cookie from our dinner the night before that we left on the desk, unopened. The book of hotel services states both the bar and lounge are open until midnight, even though the lounge had been closed before we left for dinner. At 23:00 we headed down to the bar only to find it closed. What bar closes early on NYE? We went back to our room. We could not even get a little bottle of liquor from the mini bar for a NYE midnight toast because it was locked.

At 23:50 I called room service because I was hungry. The hotel services book states that room service is available until midnight. The phone rang until a voice mail system picked up and transferred me to the hotel operator who then transferred me to a dead line. When I finally did get a hold of someone in room service, at 23:55, I was told that they were closed because it was past midnight. When I corrected her she told me that they were not serving hot food anymore, but I could have a chicken or turkey sandwich. That really helps a pescetarian. I told her the hotel services book says they are open until midnight and she told me they close at 22:30. We called back to the front desk to find out where the vending machines are. They do not have vending machines. No way to get even a candy bar anywhere in this hotel. Plus, the room service speed dial button on the phone did not work.

The free HBO was fuzzy most of the time and did not even come in at times.

The toilet paper was not on a holder. It was just placed in the metal box in the wall and fell to the floor and rolled away when I pulled the first time.

The complimentary conditioner in the bathroom was half empty and I was not about to get out of the shower and call and request a full one.

The only positive thing I can say about this hotel was the water pressure in the shower was good.

This hotel was probably the worst I have ever stayed in. I give it one star, at best, and that is being generous.
