1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2008

This hotel used to be part of a larger hotel chain but due to its obvious deterioration, the chain dropped them - and rightly so. The "good": The lobby has been renovated and the meeting space is nice. The hotel sits right on top of the METRO station. The hotel is one of the few in DC that has a pool. The "bad": There are no restaurants around the hotel, the rooms are exceptionally outdated - the carpet is worn, the wallpaper has faded, the bathroom vanity is new, but the shower and tile haven't been touched since the 1970's.

There are so many good hotels in DC - don't pick this one!

Hotel is very nice, and having 4 Metro lines underneath cannot be overstated. Gym is exceptional for a hotel. Fridge a nice touch. Enjoyed the stay and will return.

It may not be for everyone. Three considerations:
1. Hotel allows pets. I'm severely (ER-level) allergic but had no problems. Did request a room with no pets the previous night.

2. Some noise with nearby freeway, Mall traffic, and older A/C unit. I'm a light sleeper and had no problems. Highly sensitive guests might request a quiet room.

3. Metro escalators are actually about 10 yards outside the Plaza doors. Entryway may contain an occasional homeless person or loiterer -- you'll be OK if you don't dawdle. Plaza merchant area is monitored by security guards, and the hotel and Metro are perfectly safe.

We found our two-night stay at L'Enfant Plaza to be a real bargain, given the location. The $139 rate included unlimited valet parking. The lobby is nice, the staff helpful and the location superb. The only caveats are for that rate one doesn't get robes and for some reason the amenities don't include lotion. I would recommend the hotel to anyone based on location, cleanliness and comfort.

In the past year I have stayed at this hotel in April, 2008 and Nov, 2008, and I would gladly return again when I am in DC. This hotel is very welcoming and the staff are fantastic. this past visit, my daughter and i arrived on the coldest day of the year. The valet staff were very helpful getting us unloaded and into the warm hotel. every room i have had at this hotel (have stayed there 4 times in the past several years) has been very comfortable and well worth the price I have paid, which, by the way, is much more reasonable then other hotels I have priced out online. We ordered room service and were very pleased with the food and the service. we checked out the following day to visit a local college and my daughter realized she had forgotten her cell phone on her bed (my oh my). i phoned the hotel and they were very helpful. they sent someone up to the room and found the phone while i was on hold. i have found everyone there to be very friendly and professional. The location to the mall could not be more convenient. there is a coffee kiosk in the lobby and a convenience store as well, which we had to use for items during this stay. You will be very pleased at the price and service at the L'Enfant.

This hotel may be a little dated but it is a great value for the location. The hotel is within walking distance of the national mall, there are 4 metro lines just downstairs, and one of the sightseeing "hop on, hop off" buses will pick you up and drop you off in front of the hotel. If you are planning on doing a lot of sightseeing, this is a great place to stay. The only drawbacks are that the hotel is located amongst government office buildings so no neighborhood restuarants or shops nearby. Also the lack of a coffee maker or refrigerator in the room was a drawback. We ate in both the cafe and the lobby lounge and had good food and great service. The clientele in the lounge was a mix of business travelers and local professionals. That made for some interesting people watching. Overall I would recommend this hotel for anyone who is interested in a comfortable stop in your sightseeing adventure.

  • Liked — The proximity and access to museums and monuments
  • Disliked — no coffe maker in room. small beds in double room

I was excited to stay becasue it was so close to everything. I did not realize this hotel was an older hotel. The lobby was nice, but the pictures made the hotel seem contemporary, newer, clean...
The lobby and pub were nice. The pub bartender gae my boyfriend a drink and completely forgot about mine. Not a good start...

The rooms were ok. They need updating. The wallpaer in teh bathroom is peeling, the tiles should be re-grouted. The carpets need a good cleaning as does the furniture. The bed was confortable and the bedding was cozy.
In the Am housekeeping kept trying to come in -- check-out wasnt until 12 and she started banging on our door at 9.

Proximity to everything was nice. A metro downstairs. The smithsonian mesuems within walking distance.
