“good stay, but no communication”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

I have stayed in this hotel recently, from Mar. 24 to 27. The hotel have charged WIFI for three nights. $32.85, though the charge for WIFI was included in room package. I requested the hotel accounting office to exclude $ 32.85 in the bill or refund it, by email couple of times, but as of today, no response at all.
I recommend all travelers to check the bill from this hotel repeatedly when checking out, even when you should hurry up!

Stayed here 2 nights on business at government rate. Near Smithsonian and Metro, but dining options are pretty poor in the immediate neighborhood. Hotel is clean, staff is friendly enough, but rooms clearly haven't seen an update in a loooong time. My room opened right onto the 12the floor pool deck - families with kids who love to swim, make sure to ask for oneof those rooms!

other pluses - good soundproofing, decent wireless (for $11/day)
minus - don't ever use the in-room coffeemaker for tea. It tastes terrible.

Don't stay here if aesthetics matter to you - otherwise, proceed with caution:

Hotel: Outdated decor in rooms and lobby desperately need a facelift: peeling old wallpaper, extinct furniture, antiquated TV, etc. Not very cheerful. Stayed four nights in a large room (15228) on the 15th floor and the closet next door to the room had a continuous odor of garbage, though our room itself was odor free. Nice to have a balcony over the heated pool. Comfy king size bed, nice sheets and blackout curtains made for a good night's sleep. Hotel food is typical and overpriced - use the food court instead on the PR level.

Staff: Helpful and responsive, especially front desk staff and some valet. Housekeeping staff kept room very clean and supplied with toiletries and fresh towels .

Parking: Advise opting for valet parking if you bring a car - the building has a self-park garage that is very confusing to enter and exit, is not well marked and left many tourists scared and confused. Not good. Just valet (or even better yet, don't drive to DC). Expect a 10 minute wait to get your car out of valet; call ahead from your room to time it.

Super Smithsonian Tourist Location: One block walk to Smithsonian Arts & Industries Museum ("The Castle") though walkway at night is not well-lit, on-site of L'Enfant Plaza Metro (subway), underground PR (Promenade) level is newly renovated and has food court options (5 Guys, Moes, Potbelly's and more) which are closed on Sundays.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a monument view unless you prefer a courtyard (swimming pool) view.

Was a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews but we really enjoyed our stay. Location is wonderful – sometimes it was cheaper to grab a cab rather than the metro. We did not rent a car and flew into Reagan National. The staff was helpful and we felt we paid a fair amount for our rooms. It’s an older hotel but for the price we felt we got a nice stay. My kids loved the pool and the gift shop was well priced. Excercise room was in good condition. My daughter played the piano in the lobby and said the A above middle C sticks after you play it but that would be our only suggestion (smiley face). We checked our bags after checking out so we could visit Arlington National Cemetary without them. We even walked back from the paddle boats at Tidal Basin. There is more to do North of The Mall but it's just a quick walk, cab, or metro ride back to L'Enfant and the hotel prices there are much more expensive. A great family vacation with zero complaints about L'Enfant Plaza. We will stay here again!

Room Tip: We upgraded for a view of the Washington Monument which was nice to wake up to.

We stayed at the L'Enfant Plaza Hotel during our spring break vacation to Washington DC. The hotel has a wonderful location, it is very convenient to the Metro, which allows you to get anywhere within the city in minutes. You can also make the 10 minute walk to the Mall to enjoy the Smithsonian Museums. The food court below the hotel has some good choices and is open Monday-Friday for breakfast lunch and an early dinner (most places closed about 6pm). On the weekends, it is deserted. Our room was dated, but overall very clean. The beds were comfy and pillows were ample. The hotel service was good. My only complaint is that they allow dogs. We had a very rude neighbor 2 doors with a yapping, barking dog that wouldn't shut up. We complained to the front desk twice and they said they called the room, but more should have been done in my opinion. Our room was on the 12th floor, which is "ground level" for the swimming pool. We had a sliding glass door to the pool deck. We didn't use the pool, but it appeared heated, although hardly used, even by kids. Again, the yappy annoying dog was allowed to run (an poop) all over the pool deck unattended and not cleaned up after. That was gross! Not necessarily the hotel's fault, but the hotel allowed the rude guests to get away with it.

I would stay here again. Mainly because of the convenience and affordable price. The room was adequate for sleeping and a shower, which is all we did there.

Dear ColoMama33,

Thank you for your comments. Let me first apologize for the unruly pet guests and owner. I did not see a report regarding the egregious dog behavior so I cannot verify that staff was contacted to try and rectify this issue but I will make sure to remind the staff about enjoyment and respect for all guests and the property by all guests. Besides these issues I am pleased to know you and your family experienced a clean, friendly and enjoyable space during your stay. We hope that when you return to the greater DC area you will return here for your lodging needs. We appreciate your business and look forward to seeing you again the next time you are in town. We had a great experience at the L'Enfant Plaza Hotel. We were able to check our bags so that we could enjoy the city before checking in. The hotel waived additional fees for our daughter and her friend when our Priceline booking stated 2 people instead of 4. The staff was friendly and helpful; they gave us a map and spent time giving us pointers about tourist attractions. Room service was excellent...we really enjoyed their pizza. Lots of food options and close to everything! Only issue was that the hotel can be difficult to find. However, we were on the Mall within 5 minutes; location can't be beat! We would definitely come back.

This hotel is a short walking distance from the Smithonian Museums and from the Capitol. The elevator goes from the Hotel lobby straight to the Metro station. Hotel is very clean, the restaurant in the lobby is very outdated, but there is a food court at L'Enfant Plaza just an elevator ride away.
