When we travel for a 2 night getaway, we are mostly concerned with cleanliness, responsive staff, location and safety. As previous posts mentioned, yes, the decor is very dated and could really use a face lift, but we knew this going in, and it did not detract from our experience. Overall, the L'Enfant Plaza hotel really helped to make our recent trip to DC a very memorable experience, and we do recommend this hotel. We were able to secure a great online deal for $99 a night, which included free valet parking (normally $30 a day). Here is a run down of what we encountered:
Positives:
1.Great location. Just a few blocks from wonderful museums and attractions
2.The metro is underneath the hotel, as are some mall shops.
3.The staff were very accomodating. We wanted to go to the Holocaust museum the morning we were to check out, and the staff quickly offered a late checkout of 1pm, but they were willing to give us a later check out if we wanted.
4. Very nice fitness room that is spread out and houses up to date equipment.
5. Clean room. The room was cleaned promptly and thoroughly. The beds are comfortable, pillows super soft and the room was at a perfect temperature the whole time.
Negatives:
1. Decor is very dated. Also, the walls are a bit thin, as we were awakened our last morning by our neighbors screaming children.
2. The underground mall is not opened on weekends.
3. Yes, we liked having a Starbucks kiosk in the lobby, but it was a bit limited in options and there is a very long wait.
3. Gift shop is extremely expensive. Make sure you bring some snacks and drinks with you. 16 ounce water is $1.99 and 20 ounce soda is $2.25 ($2.00 in vending machine on 14th floor).
