“Great Stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

My husband and I and our two teenagers and 11 year old all stayed in a city view double queen room last week for 3 nights. We had an incredible view of the Washington Monument. Even saw it get struck by lightening from our window during a late night thunderstorm..amazing sight. The room is small yes..but it is bigger than some i have stayed in. This hotel allows 5 in a room and we used a rollaway for my 11 year old that fit neatly at the end of the room next to the window. The bathroom is small for 5 big bodies but we cannot afford to purchase two rooms so we make due with that . The beds were very comfortable and clean. The pool is a lively place and often crowded but enjoyed having it available, esp the jacuzzi which the teens prefer. GREAT LOCATION. We walked nearly everywhere..did take a cab home from Lincoln Monument as it was about to storm and I cannot remember the charge but it was not more than 12 dollars i am sure. Highly reccommend this hotel but definitly get the city view as it makes all of the difference.

Location can't be beat. Lobby is welcoming and a variety of eateries, including a Starbuck's, are appreciated. Bellman and valet were excellent. Beyond these positives, the stay was disappointing.
Hotel was frumpy and worn. Hallway was dingy. My room had a yucky stain on the chair, cobwebs in corners and did not smell fresh. "Free" web access was unreliable and paid upgraded web access was not much better. Room service was inaccurate. Very noisy at night, could hear everything from room next door and footsteps from room above (and there was a child who spent long hours between midnight and 4 am running and banging toys). Mini bar was never replenished. Noting all these things in the hotel provided survey did not elicit any response from the hotel.

Room Tip: Make sure the room is clean and has been recently refurbished.

Stayed at this hotel with my two sons from Friday through Tuesday. Bellmen, housekeeping, and front desk (Ben) were all very helpful and friendly.
The hotel is normally pricey but I was able to get a fantastic rate, which allowed me to stay. The staff place flavored water (made with fresh pineaple, strawberry, cantaloupe) in the lobby daily which was refreshing after walking the mall and monuments.
I've read complaints about the elevators but I liked them. You press your floor number "outside" of the bank of elevators and the electronic board indicates which elevator will service you (A, B, C, D, E or F). You board the elevator designated for you and it takes you to your floor. Simple.
The beds were not the most comfortable...I'd rate them as average.
The Starbucks closes early but the restaurant/bar was open late. I'm not a drinker but the atmosphere seemed nice. We did order takeout plates on two nights and the food was good and price was reasonable ($11.99 for a dozen of hot wings).
Location is great: 2 blocks from the White House; 3 blocks to the Mall and America History Museum). Of course, to see all of the major monuments, museums, etc. you're going to have to walk a lot BUT there's no need to take the Metro. Also, it's less than a 20 minute Metro ride from National Airport (I beleieve 8 stops on the Blue Line).
There are not a lot of eating establishments in the immediate area of the hotel but, China Town (7th and F St) is a short walk and offers everything from Chinese food to Hooters, Ruby Tuesday, Mexican, Seafood, American, Donuts, etc.
Nice indoor pool although not big. Could get a little crowded with young kids. The execise facility is nice and big. It includes showers, sauna, several treadmills, a couple of bikes and stairclimbers, several achine weights and a few dumbells. There are fresh apples and cold towels offered.
If I can ever find a good rate again, I will definitely stay here.

Great hotel. Looby is wonderful and staff was very welcoming. Walking distance to everything you need. Metro stop just a couple blocks away and under 10 minutes to get to the White House. Starbucks was convinent in the morning but closed early (6:00 P.M.) Only thing to beware of is that the mini bar is motion sensored and when I moved something to put diabetic supplies is in auomatically charged me what was moved. A stop by the front desk and they checked the mini bar and corrected it with no harm done. Would not hesitate and look forward to staying here again next time I come to D.C.

This JW is a nice, clean hotel. It's only a couple of blocks away from the White House. Parking is fairly expensive (~$48/night). There is a Starbucks inside the hotel. :) Rooms are clean...nothing extraordinary! I was impressed with the elevators because you pressed the floor number while calling the elevator. Once you get in the elevator, you go directly to your floor...there is no stopping on any other floor. Pretty neat! There are a couple of CVS stores in the walking distance, so if you forget something, just walk to the CVS.

We got a 'deal' on the hotel over Memorial Day weekend. Still more expensive than other choices but in the end I was very pleased. We paid a bit extra for a room with a view out onto the Plaza - something I'm usually opposed to spending money on. This was our kids' first trip to DC and I think they really enjoyed looking out over the City. One night it was a bit noisy as there was some kind of party going on in the plaza but it was over by 10 pm.

The room was nicely decorated, updated and comfortable. Everything was clean. The only strange thing was that there were neither towel racks nor a fan in the bathroom. Parents beware - the mini bar is one with the automatic sensor so if you move something you will be charged!

We paid to have breakfast included with the room price and that was well worth it. The buffet breakfast had a great selection every day - fresh waffles and omelettes, and the usual cereals, eggs, muffins etc. Definitely worth it for a family of 4. We ate dinner here one night and it wasn't anything exceptional and was priced for the convenience. I will say that the dining room staff was exceptionally friendly.

We used the pool every afternoon for a mid-day break and never found it crowded at that time even though it is a bit small. The one evening we went it was packed. There is a nice small courtyard adjacent to the pool with table and chairs for those who would rather lounge outside.

The metro is about a block away and you can walk to the Mall. We used the metro pretty much only to get to a few places such as the zoo.

I have no complaints and would stay there again. Definitely recommended for a home base for a family sightseeing in DC.

Room Tip: Consider the rooms facing Pennsylvania Ave unless you are trying to economize. I think we were on t...

The JW Marriott is huge but nice. The service defies the tremendous size of the hotel. The only negative was the valet nightmare. They were inefficient to the point of annoyance. We waited over 30 minutes for the car. Otherwise, 2 thumbs up. The club level is actually worth the nominal extra charge.

Room Tip: choose a room on club level with a view of Pennsylvania Ave
