“Great time!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

Hotel has a great location really close to the capitol and the mall, the only down is that the street behind the hotel has a homeless shelter and a lot of homeless hanging outside. As we walked everywhere we felt a little uneasy walking back at night and passing thru the shelter. Hotel reataurant really nice and next door there's a comvenience store with great breakfast. Enjoyed my stay and will refer and maybe go back.

We stayed here for 8 nights while relocating to DC. The reason to stay here is the great location, but the great location seems to keep the hotel full with insufficient attention to good service. The facility is nice, but you can waste a lot of time trying to take advantage of certain services. Some staff were very nice and helpful. But others were just not that good. For example, it took me about 20 minutes one day and four different restaurant area workers to get an order in for take out food for my son in the lounge area. It took be about 20 minutes to get luggage delivered to a waiting car on our day of departure--it just sat there in the lounge area as the person responsible for it was busy and others did not jump in to help. On the checkout day, we got late check out, then had to chase away hotel cleaning staff about four times, staff which kept repeatedly and agressively knocking at the door to clean the room prior to our agreed checkout time. Another cleaning crew person gave us a lot of attitude about 25 minutes before the end of her shift because she did not have time to help us--she said we shouldn't call about it either--she would. And hotel staff at the entrance refused to give me my car keys back at one point because the precise person who had taken them was not around, and I had to go find him. Another person gave us a long convoluted explanation about how we could not get us a refridgerator for another three days while a few minutes later a completely different staffer went and got us a fridge and had someone deliver it to the room. Conclusion? Hotel staff seems to be much more concerned to be covering their [--] vis a vis the management, which may be being pretty tough on them following reviews like this, than actually performing customer service. Aggressive cleaning, not giving a key, not delivering someones else's bag, not surrendering a fridge or simply making it happen, not taking a food order, these are signs that employees may be more concerned about management's rules than about actually helping you. Other employees are just very charming and helpful--quite a variety here. One of the best is Mia.

We got a great deal for this hotel when visiting Washington, merely 95$ for the night. Unfortunately, there were hidden costs. Simply parking the car overnight cost 48$! There is no complimentary internet in the rooms, its another 10-15$. The pool and gym area are outstanding however, some of the best I have ever seen in a hotel. Its a premium hotel where you need to dig in your pockets to enjoy it to the fullest.

Room Tip: Go park at Union Station, its 2 street corners away and a mere 22$ per 24h

I stayed at hotel July 11-18th 2013. Rooms were clean, maid service excellent. Room was small. Staff very helpful. Workout facilities and pool well maintained. First day of working out no soap in showers or bathroom, but once I informed maintenance they kept soap in both places. Gift shop severely overpriced, tried to buy a 99 cents bag of chips and they cost $6.97, totally ridiculous. I would stay there again if I couldn 't find anything cheaper for the same quality.

Recently stayed here along with two friends. The service was good. Bellmen and housekeeping were great. The hotel is within walking distance of the Capitol and Union Station. Taxis were always readily available. Room was clean. Beds were a bit small but VERY comfortable. There was only one mirror which was in the bathroom above the sink. The ventilation in the bathroom was non existent. There was a pedestal sink which didn't work well for three women. This is not an area full of restaurants so you have to leave the area for choices. During lunch I found a bug in my club sandwich while dining downstairs in the restaurant. GROSS!!! Even though the manager on duty removed the meal from my bill we never ate there again during our week long stay.

Yes, the location so close to Capitol Hill is just perfect and yes, the hotel has all that's required: good size rooms, indoor swimming pool, restaurant & bar area, ... But it's not delivering up to Hyatt standards (we are Hyatt gold members so we have an idea of what to expect)
You may find my below remarks as putting to much attention to detail, but hey, this the level of service we expect for these prices. Here are some of the attention points:
* when we arrived after a long drive, Ia sked to take our luggage up to the room, they made a note of our name but the luggage got "lost" afterwards. They seemed unable to figure out which room we were in and we had to go and ask for our luggage rather then finding it in our rooms a couple of minutes after arrival
* we booked for 4 people to stay in the room, but only towels provided for 2
* the airco in room 1084 is way too loud
* the airco in the bathroom is not strong enough to get the moist out of it after showering
Would I book here again ? Probably yes, because the above points are easy enough to fix and maybe down to bad luck this time.

Since my visit a year ago, I'm happy to report that this Hyatt has stellar customer service - from the front desk staff to housekeeping to wait staff! The rooms are still nicely-appointed and they made some changes to their in-room toiletries which I found much better than a year ago.
