“Austin Powers- style cheesy decor, but it's a cool cheesy!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 days ago NEW

Prices were reasonable, check-in and check-out were a breeze. Beds were very firm, which was great! Staff are SUPER friendly and helpful. This was really our first experience of D.C. and it really set the mood for our long weekend.

Rooms were not cramp rooms which you'd expect. They are very spacious (especially if you have a toddler running around). We had a muck up in our room service order - they brought the wrong order, and pricing was not transparent. However, upon check out, we mentioned this to the staff at check out, and they took our entire room service order off the bill. We weren't expecting that, but it was a very nice gesture. So, 5 stars for them!

My son and I checked into the Hotel Helix on Friday, April 24th and were appalled by the condition of the hotel common areas and our room. Our room, #1002, had an orange formica sink that was bubbled up and BLACK around the sink area which was particularly disgusting. The tile around the shower was filthy also. The common areas, such as elevators and hallways needed vaccuuming and the walls were dirty. The elevator call button was filthy. The staff was not helpful when this was brought to their attention.

My entire family of five adults travels for business on a regular basis, and we have always had wonderful experiences at Kimpton, most notably the Cypress Hotel in Cupertino, and the Palomar in both Dallas, DC and Chicago. We actually checked out of the Helix even though we had prepaid for an additional night and went to the Palomar Dupont Circle, where Ms. Finkelstein then kindly arranged for us to get a refund on the unused room at Helix.

Located right near Dupont Circle this place is on a side street (Rhode Island) near many restaurants and walking distance to the Mall if you are up for it. Whole Foods right around the corner if you need any snacks or provisions.
Great service from the front desk staff, very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. They have a little bar area for breakfast in the mornings and drinks in the afternoons/evening. They offer a wine tasting at 5 (we were there on a weekend so don't know if this is every day) which is nice and have a patio for outdoor enjoyment. Our room was spacious and quiet, no views but we weren't there for the view anyway. Easy to get transportation either by cab, or bus. Comfy bed and funky decor make it a quaint place. The price was right too.

Room Tip: I thought our room was quiet. We were on the 8th floor midway down the hallway.

We had asked for a room free of pet allergens and they were very accommodating. Our room was spacious and very clean. We had also a small kitchenette and it was handy since we had a Whole Food close by. All in all a very good stay and experience. There are restaurants, shops, transit, parks and anything you'll need nearby.

The Helix is now a bit tired, it needs painting, the original rehab is old. The springs in the bed are a bit shot, the bathroom fixtures aren't tight and the plastic tub insert is uneven and coming loose. The underlying building is old and the elevators are slow and uneven. It 's unfortunate and the staff is perfectly friendly but a major redo is in order.

I’ll start my review by first commending the staff of Helix Hotel for great customer service. They were always there and ready to help; with a smile! The staff improved our visit to the nation’s capital by providing us much needed tips, suggestions and information.
The Helix Hotel is within walking distance to most monuments and memorials which were about 1-2 miles away. The hotel is decorated in a way to make you feel as if you are backstage at a concert. They have an outdoor and indoor lounge where you can relax and rest your feet after a long day of walking. They have Happy Hour between 5:00pm and 6:00pm where they serve an assortment of wine.
The location of the hotel is great for an evening out with a young and lively crowd at the nearby restaurants. There is no need to worry about where/what to eat, within a 2 block radius you have access to a number of different styles of restaurants. There is even a Whole Foods market where you can stock up on food and get a hot meal from the deli if you opt to rest and eat in your room. There is also a CVS drug store where you can buy items that you may have left at home. FYI – the hotel has a large selection of complimentary items, check with the front desk first before running out to buy lotion or whatever else.
I really wished that the rooms were equipped with a microwave oven and refrigerator; it would have been nice to have these appliances to prepare and store food. Dining in Washington D.C. can become really expensive!
The rooms are clean and we never had any issues with cleanliness and/or comfort. Be aware though, the hotel allows pets in the room; my only gripe is that our room smells of a pet? I do believe that they have rooms that do not allow pets for those with allergies. There was a chair (looks like a futon) in our room that is in good condition, but has seen better days. Our bed was on the soft side which my wife prefers; unfortunately my back hated it….
Overall, great location that has restaurants and stores, within decent walking distance to most monuments and memorials, great customer service. I will also like to add, that hotel has pretty good walls.
