Wonderful location-walking distance to Convention Center and Verizon, and brief trip to all the sights. Stunning atrium lobby with gracious decor.
Elegant service-three people approached us while in a line of three people as we were checking in to see if they could assist.
Spacious immaculate room. Even the housekeeping service was pleasant and out going.
Only downside: Butler's martini bar which is advertised in the room brochures as well as on posters on the walls in the hotel has been closed for two years!!
A bargain price on a January weekend.

I understand that during the week this hotel is not cheap, likely around 250+ a night. But on weekends, bargains can be had aplenty. By the same token, on weekends it may also attract multiple adults in a room, sometimes partying till late at night, and so on. So be forewarned.
Location is great. A few blocks from the convention center, and very central to various attractions etc. Restaurants everywhere near, so good food is easy to get.
We drove up to the front door, and was greeted courteously by the doorman. Valet parking is $26 (self park is $20 but no in and out). Parking is efficient.
Check in didn't take long. Maybe 2-3 minutes? We asked for a room away from elevators, and got it, but if you do, be mindful of a long long walk. All elevators are on the south side of the hotel, so if you get a room on the north side as we did, it's good exercise :-)
Room is okay in terms of size. Likely around 300 sq. ft. No place to lock down your laptop if you have one. No safe in room. But coffeemaker. A/C heat works efficiently. Bathroom is good size. Shower has decent water pressure. I personally don't like their white ginger toiletries, but that's just personal preference.
TV is old tube type, but clear enough. No complaints there. Two phones in the room, one of which is cordless. WiFi at 9.99 a day. All in all, room is fine for a business-class hotel.
Housekeeping is okay. Previous guests left a beer bottle next to the bed, and it was there when we went into the room. But to be fair, it was semi-hidden between the bed and the wall. Still....
Did I mention interior noise? We could hear door-slamming throughout the evening. And loud noises (and even music) from the corridors. Whether that was a factor of thin walls and doors or just loud people, I cannot tell. Just reporting the facts. But by midnight or so, I fell asleep and if there were still noises, etc., they didn't bother me.
Breakfast buffet is a large spread and good selection. Adult at $21 a head. My room did not include bfast, so I paid. Not bad. Variety is a lot. Quality is so-so.
Check-out was efficient (well, I used the web checkout). Getting the car from the valet took 5 minutes (we called down 5 minutes beforehand).
Overall, a nice-enough stay. Nothing spectacular, but then we were not expecting anything spectacular.
Would I come back? If the price is right. But then on lots of weekends, DC hotels are actually rather inexpensive anyway.

Spent two nights here midweek. My check-in took all of 2 minutes and was handled nicely. The room is a bit larger than average for a DC hotel and was comfortably arranged. The bed was very comfortable and the heating system was efficient and quite. I was on the street side of the hotel and only heard an occasional horn, but no real noise to speak of. The amenities were average and only one coffee pod for the maker, but at least there was a maker. Please note, there is a Starbucks in the lobby if you don't care to pay $16 for room service coffee, that' $10 for a pot of coffee, plus $3.50 service charge, plus 20% gratuity.

The bar is an odd sort of thing as you have to go down the escalator, towards a moat, through the restaurant, up and over a small bridge only to find about 10 seats surrounded by two large, plamsa televisions showing different programs equally loud.

My only gripe with the hotel is that you have to pay $10 a day to use a private gym just outside of the lobby. I'd rather they charge all rooms $1 to subsidize the few of us that want to use th gym. Sorry, I'm kind of a socialist when it comes to hotels.

The location is good for business or tourists, close to shops, restaurants, public transport, tourist sites, etc.

We recently came back from the Grand Hyatt Washington, DC. I first booked with the hotel, but then found a better deal with Travelocity so I cancelled with the hotel and rebooked with Travelocity. The first booking only included a Continental breakfast the second booking included the Buffet. The hotel is located at Metro Center which is a center hub of the Metro System. However, ironically you cannot get senior metro cards which allow seniors to travel at half the price at Metro Center. You can take a 10 minute walk from the hotel to the Metro Office to get the senior passes. We took the Metro to the hotel from Ronald Regan Airport and departed the same way. A taxi is about $20 plus tip. The Atrium is beautiful. We had a room facing office buildings. If we were to visit again we will take a room facing the Atrium since it is beautiful. The office buildings were not very attractive.

The staff was friendly and allowed us to check in early. We had some minor issues with the room and the staff quickly addressed our concerns. We traveled during December the week after Christmas and our rooms were $116 a night. We booked two rooms. With taxes and fees the true cost was $130 per room which included the tax and the buffet breakfast for two people in each room. The buffet was delicious so if it is not included in your package I would recommend you shop around travel sites to find a deal that includes the buffet breakfast. Also, the accessibility of the metro connected to the hotel through a walk way down several escalators made the traveling DC very easy. If you are going to use the metro a lot in a one week period I would recommend you purchase the weekly fare card. However, if you are a senior the senior pass may be the better deal.

The staff at the information desk was very knowledgeable with respect to where to eat at reasonable priced restaurants. For example, the staff recommended eating at Clyde’s restaurant which was our favorite for quality of food and price.

The rooms we stayed in were not 5 star quality. For example, the exhaust fans in the bathrooms in our rooms did not function adequately and the bathrooms would become like a steam room if the bathroom door was not left open. I would say our rooms were 4 out of 5 stars. However, the hotel is planning renovations in 2008 to improve the conditions of some rooms. The location to major sites, service, and cost/benefit would be 5 star. We did not spend much time in a room therefore we did not need a Jacuzzi or marble and gold toilet fixtures for our stay. In comparing the cost for this hotel with others in the area this hotel was a good deal.

Prices for the hotel may vary throughout the year therefore I would recommend you do a search of hotels in the Washington, DC area several months prior to traveling and then book with the hotel not the travel web sites. Most travel web sites may charge you a cancelation fee. Hotels allow you to cancel prior to 24 hours of arrival without a fee. If a lower price for the hotel becomes available as was in my case you can cancel out with the hotel and rebook with the travel website. The bed was very comfortable. Most of the Metro stops drop you within 1/2 mile from the attraction of interest.

We stayed here for the holidays, and fell in love with it! Especially at a AAA rate of $116 per night, full breakfast included. I can't understand the travelers who said it was old and in need of modernisation. It was a typical Hyatt property, not brand new, but certainly contemporary enough. Our room decor included rich chocolate woods with sand-colored granite tops. Flat screen TVs would have been nice, but at this price, I could pass on them. The bathroom was roomy and almost as stylish as a Park Hyatt. Most importantly, the shower had good water pressure and good temperature regulation.

The service was fantastic. The front desk was especially accomodating, and readily removed a $10 charge I was not aware of for accepting a package I had sent to the hotel. Our room was made up every day, regardless of what time our "Do Not Disturb" sign was left out. The sports bar downstairs was fun as well with prompt, friendly service.

Finally, if you have never ridden the Metro before, it is a must to get around town here. We never had to deal with the hassel of parking or renting a car because we rode the Metro everywhere (on a unlimited weekly $32.50 pass). The Metro center, a transfer station for the Red, Blue, and Orange lines, was accessible through the basement.

This has become our new favorite hotel in D.C., at least at this rate. It was comfortable, conveniently located, and had friendly, attentive service. We will definitely be back.
