“Home from home in the centre of Washington, DC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

My husband and I stayed in George Washington University Inn for 10 days during New Year's time. I can highly recommend this hotel to everyone. We had a lovely huge suite with a kitchenette (Whole Foods is nearby) and we enjoyed our leasurly breakfasts and night-cups. The location is very good - we could walk almost everywhere, but the Tube station is also just a block away. Despite its central location the hotel is on a very quiet road. We were most impressed by the hotel staff. They really made an effort to make us feel welcome. The price for all this comfort was very reasonable.

I stayed for a week at the GW Inn. At first I was a little disappointed, the location isn't the best in DC and the hotel seemed a bit outdated. But when I checked in the staff were helpful and pleasant and the room, while a bit dated, had everything I needed. The suite was perfect for an extended stay and the proximity of Whole Foods was incredibly convenient for me to have my morning breakfast at home. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

Very nice, clean and friendly hotel! Loved the location! Our room was great and very quiet. Did not eat at the restaurant however, we did have a beverage at the bar and the bartender was fun and personable! Yep Yep we will be staying there again!

I echo the other good reviews. It's a five-minute walk to the subway and a seven-minute walk to Kennedy Center. I had a wonderful suite with living room, dining room, kitchen, and separate bedroom for a paltry sum. It seems to have been built in the 1950s with 1950s character which is to say 'little'. I didn't mind it a bit, everything else being so nice.

My wife and I routinely stay at the George Washington University Inn when we attend performances at the Kennedy Center. It is located in a very nice and safe neighborhood on New Hampshire Avenue within very easy walking distance of both the Kennedy Center and the Foggy Bottom Metro. The building is older but very charming with nicely appointed rooms and suites. The staff is exceptionally professional, courteous, and considerate and always make our stay relaxing and pleasant from check-in to check-out. We have also enjoyed dining at their restaurant, Notti Bianche. I recommend the GW University Inn without reservation.

Room Tip: Reserve a suite. They are spacious, comfortable and include kitchenettes.

I have been here before a lot since my younger niece is taking classes at George Washington university. Staff were friendly and nice. Near the metro too and the hospital with a Starbucks inside was not too far away. Near there was Whole Foods, which was awesome. Restaurant is not really for vegetarians though. One time we were offered to upgrade to a suite because we had came here before and that was really nice of them!!! We had other family with us and they were satisfied with it too. There is a little parking garage and the man there said it was expensive and told us that we could self park for free. Nice guy!!!! Room had an older feel to it and was a normal size, maybe a bit bigger. Would come back here and recommend it to everyone.

My wife and I stayed here last week on a business trip and were satisfied with our stay. We had one of the larger suites which turned out to be perfect for picking up groceries and preparing small meals in our room's kitchen area (fridge, gas burners, toaster, sink, dishes, etc.). It's not a luxury hotel by any means, but has a nice comfortable vibe about it.

We didn't use any of the other amenities, which to be honest didn't really jump out at you like at some other hotels. I couldn't even tell you if there was an exercise room or the like. For us, it was in and out of our room and that's about it. The staff was very friendly whenever we did interact with them.

We are past residents of the area and so weren't interested in sight seeing, but if you were planning a trip to visit DC, I can imagine this hotel being a great home-base for keeping meal costs down while roaming around town to see some of the major sights. In this way, the lack of an included breakfast was a non-issue for us, since there is a gorgeous new Whole Foods grocery store just 3 blocks away with a littany of prepared foods.

Having arrived at the hotel via rental car, it was a little annoying to find out that the valet parking was a bit expensive (35/day) considering the possibility of overnight street parking in the area. We were willing to pay for the convenience of it, and only used the car once per day before tucking it away for the night. The hangup you'd have if you were try and park your car yourself would be finding a spot for it on the street during the day for longer than 2 hours. Only permit holders can park on the street for longer than 2 hours before 8:30pm. Anyway, just be advised of the parking concerns, and if you garage it somewhere nearby expect to budget upwards of 25/day.
