“Great location and setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

The great part about this hotel was its location to the Metro at Dupont Circle. Easy to get to by walking. The neighborhood it is located in is very unique with all the different architectural styles.
We had a room which faced the back of the hotel towards Q St. It was quiet and looked out on the row houses. The room was small and almost not functional for two people with a king sized bed. However, the bed was very comfortable and I thought the room was well insulated. Only heard a few rowdies in the hallways at night. The bathroom was very small and not enough counter space. And above the closet in the hall there was some wallpaper which was torn away and looked like it was that way for repairs. It revealed some bad looking moldy wallboard. It gave me the creeps everytime I saw it. Staff was helpful. Continental breakfast was basic but did the job in the a.m.

The Hotel is located right next to Dupont Circle and only around the corner from the Metro so this makes it very easy to reach all the sights of Washington D.C. and in little time. The area is very busy and has a good nightlife with lots of cafes and restaurants open along with shops and essentials.

The Hotel room itself was very comfortable with lovely views and a spacious comfortable bed and area for luggage and clothes. The bathroom was clean and comfortable to use without any problems. The staff were helpful at the Front Desk and always greeted us on arrival. Free breakfast was continental and basic but still good enough to fill up on.

I would recommend this Hotel for location however price may be slightly high during a normal stay - we stayed during a specials discount period so it was worth it!

The reason that I did not rate very poor was due to its location. 4 things to complain about this hotel - 1. The wall is ultra thin: I can hear the guy coughing next door and when he flushed the toilet. To make it worse, there was a drinking party one night. And the hotel staffs did not seem to be able to control the situation despite two calls to the service line. 2. The elevator is scary: not sure how the maintenance was done. My daughter and I were trapped in the elevator for a couple minutes one day. The elevator did not stop at the floor that we pushed, instead, it went up and down and went back up to the right floor. Since the , my daughter wanted to climb stairs instead. 3. Dated deco - Less bothersome to me given its price. 4. Breakfast - if it was ever an option, I won't choose it.

I was here on a quick business trip. The hotel is in a nice area of town that allows you to move easily (even by foot) to the mayor Washington sights and there is a lot of restaurants right around the corner. The staff of the hotel is very nice and helpful. For a hotel in this price category however I would expect a bit more maintenance of the rooms. Cleaning was not great – some areas certainly needed more attention and there were a few very wet spots on the carpet (I can only hope this was rapid cleaning). Several of the electricity sockets were very old and damaged, which makes charging your equipment a challenge. The bed however is very comfortable and the view from the room is lovely.

Just got back from a 4 day girls trip to DC. This hotel is in the perfect location to the DuPont Circle Metro (1/2 block) and all the excitement of the area. The staff is very helpful and attentive. The rooms are a bit small, but that is to be expected in a large city. And really, who cares about the size of the room when you are out sightseeing all day (as one should be in DC)? It appears to be an older hotel, but everything seems to be in good working order and clean. The only comment from me is that our room carpet was a little thread-bare and I imagine that will be updated soon.

Others have complained about the hotel. I found it to be fine, including the breakfast. Staff kept the service refreshed and cleaned up continuously. The staff were amazingly friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. My only complaint was the extremely minimal nature of the hotel's website. It was not possible to readily learn key information.

Room Tip: Rooms on the inside are quieter.

The location of this hotel is on DuPont Circle and close to many great restaurants. The Hotel itself is old and although it appears there has been some effort to get it up to par with like priced hotels I would say more work needs to be done. My room was exceptionally small but the bed was comfortable. The baseboards were dirty and it was obvious the carpet had not been cleaned for a while. The inward facing rooms have no view of anything but the other rooms. Keep your curtains closed because there is no privacy from the room across the quad from you, they can see right in. The desk staffed seemed indifferent and when I checked out a day early because my company had made the reservation for too many days I was charged $75 early departure fee even though I was checking out at 8am. When I requested to talk to the manager on duty that manager didn't even have the decency to talk to me. I was told I had to pay the fee, that was it. The bell staff was exceptional, probably the best part of any staff interaction I had. The bar and restaurant in the hotel are not operational which is a big pain if you are traveling for business and just want to grab a meal or a drink without having to go out of the hotel. The breakfast served in the basement of the hotel is bare bones and not really worth your time. One of my biggest pet peeves in a hotel is when I say for several days and the housekeeping staff only put decaf coffee in my room. This happened here. The price of this hotel, although comparable to others in the area is high for what you are getting. You are better off paying a bit more elsewhere. I would not return to this hotel.
