“Not what I expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

I came to DC for a weekend vacation with my boyfriend and unfortunately, we had some issues when getting to the hotel. First of all the first room they put us in was the size of a closet and the bathroom smelt like sulfur. I had gone down to the front to ask them to change my room and I am pleased to say the man working behind the desk switched our rooms right away. I would recommend this hotel for its great location as well as the fabulous bar attached.

Mum and I had booked this based on reviews online. On arrival the hotel reminded me of an office building but once inside I didn't think this anymore. The staff on reception (particularly Niamh) were extremely friendly - getting out a map of DC and telling us the best places to go and what they really liked - walking around from behind the desk to show us where Kramer Books was - and we were upgraded to a superior room. This meant that we had an 'outside room' and later in our stay after some noise from outside one night we did see an inside room having asked to move but we were not happy and so were moved to another outside room on the opposite side.

The rooms are well appointed. Big, very comfortable beds with a choice of different pillows, plenty of towels and toiletries and much-needed air conditioning. Some people do comment on the bathroom not having a lockable door and this is true - both mum and I felt it was fine for us but if we were just friends then it may make things more difficult.

We had breakfast in the restaurant and it was really good. Staff were very friendly and there were countless top-ups of coffee and also very good food. Everyone at the hotel seemed very happy to be working there which lead to a relaxed stay.

On our last day we left our bags with the doormen before heading out. Upon coming back to the hotel they had remembered that we would need a taxi to the airport and this was arranged for us. Being a hot day the concierge brought over bottled water whilst we waited for the taxi.

It took 20 minutes to walk down to the White House which was a fine walk and we would not hesitate in recommending the Dupont Circle or staying there again.

Room Tip: Go for the outside room - the inside ones are smaller but fine - but the outside are much better.

This is a perfect location in my favorite neighborhood in DC, near subway and within $10-15 by cab from major attractions. Lots of restaurants and pleasant walks around. It is also a bargain in a very expensive city. The hotel is freshly renovated, everything very clean. They do have a problem with somewhat underpowered AC units; when we complained, they went literally through every empty room to find the coolest one and move us. The rooms are pretty tight, but reasonable for the price. Shatters let some light through, keep in mind if you are sensitive at night. No coffee in the room, free coffee in the lobby. Fast free WiFi, excellent beds. Breakfast is a bit pricey, but good; there are so many eateries around that it is not a problem. The bar at night is crowded at night, could be noisy. Some like it that way. Everybody on staff is extremely friendly and truly hospitable. My only reservation about this hotel is the efficiency of AC in summer.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the street have better views, but you hear emergency vehicles now and then; rooms...

Loved this place. Staff was very very nice and helpful. The room design is elegant and very stylish. My wife said it was a tad masculine but I didn't see that. We got a great deal from expedia so it was not expensive (200 / night). Came here after 5 days at W Washington which I liked but this had larger rooms.

Well this is my diet stay at this facility and I chose it based on the reviews I read and because I love boutique hotels .

This hotel is a boutique hotel wanna be but not an original one . Nothing special about ambiance , rooms nor service .
Not bad but very average I would say .

The house keepin is terrable by all standards . We came back to find that beds were done but the ret of the room wasn't cleaned and trash wasn't thrown out !
Very bad .

The location is the best about this hotel . That's it
The receptionists are average none willing to help or even offer .
We dragged our bags to the carbon check out despite the presence of 2 doormen !

It was just a hostel service with a hotel price .

No respect to you Expedia VIP/Ellite despite that the reservation says differently so don't bother to mention it .

Next visit to DC am surely staying somewhere else

What a great hotel. The staff could not have been better, they were so friendly and helpful especially Niamh who brought us to the bank so we could change euros for dollars. There is a great buzz in the bar and the terrace. It is in a good location to get the metro and the area feels very safe to walk around .There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. The only thing about the hotel is the noise from the delivery trucks in the morning which can be loud. Overall a very good hotel.

For the exclusive traveler, you will have a delightful experience inside the walls of the Capella Washington DC. From the moment I crossed the threshold until I stuck my last leg into a cab back to the airport, the service level was remarkable! The entire staff's focus was on every guest at every minute, and you immediately felt that you were among family, friends and favorite folks- The Rye bar is adjacent to the secured check in area- a clever arrangement, where the general public may enter freely for a cocktail or dinner- but is completely restricted from entering the guests residential facility. Guestrooms were extraordinary
