“Very Pleasant Stay. (Nice, Clean & Safe)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2010

We stayed at the Day’s Inn Washington DC with my family while visiting DC area.
All staff, especially Jennifer, at the front desk was very friendly, helpful and courteous.
The room was lovely and the most importantly very clean. It had everything we needed. Very pleasant place to stay in Washington area. We will be back. Thank you for everything.

This hotel is very close to the Van Ness metro station, which may seem far on the map, but you can be at the great Washington monuments and museums in 15-20 minutes! I love a great deal and this was a really inexpensive vacation. All the Smithsonian institutions, including the Zoo (take the bus from the corner to be dropped off at the entrance) are FREE and can keep you occupied for days!
The room was comfortable, but we had no view, and the AC seemed to have a bit of a mouldy aroma at first. If you are a TV watcher, the flat screen was large, channels changed slowly, and there was no TV guide station, so it was taking too long to find a specific program to watch (other than news, weather, and sports). You need to get the paper to find out what else is on. There were no movies on demand. The free wireless connection did not connect as easily as in other hotels, but it did work eventually. If you are having trouble, there are two computers downstairs in the lobby.
The staff was pleasant and gave us a good recommendation for meals: The Epicurean near the metro station (and Starbucks). It was a buffet place which sold food by weight and was a good deal (!). Don't load up on fruits - they are heavy :-) The menu included many breakfast items (served in a.m.), as well as salads, and main courses. It is definitely worth a try. If you love sandwiches, there is a famous "Pot Belly" restaurant - you'll pass it on the way to the metro. If you like to buy some of your own food, the "Giant" grocery store is right by the Van Ness station (on the east side) and a liquor store a few doors up. There is also a drug store right there.
The parking is $22, with in and out privileges, and on the last day we were able to check out, leave the car for no additional cost, and finish our sightseeing. If you are interested in seeing the National Cathedral, I would recommended taking your car. If you like architecture, you can drive down Connecticut to Dupont Circle and then up Massachusetts Ave. to see numerous embassies (embassy row). It's a 10-15 minute drive. The entrance to the cathedral is free, but there was a person standing right there and strongly suggesting a $5 donation - we dropped $10, as it would be hard to ignore the request (at least for me).
If you love museums, you are in heaven in Washington. My partner spent two days at the amazing Air and Space museum, while I hopped off to nearby art museums. It was glorious. At the end of each day, we took the metro back to the hotel. It seemed very safe even at 10p.m. - there were many single women travelling at that time, and don't let the darkness at the stations spook you! Note: NO food or drink in the metro, so you'll have to discard your Starbucks coffee before you get in :-) Also, the cost depends on how far you go and at what time. Don't be discouraged, it's actually very simple once you consult the chart with destination stations. Rush hour is more expensive, but overall we found the metro to be inexpensive.
The hotel bed was very comfortable, and if you have a queen size at home, it's huge! You will be well rested for the next day of sightseeing. The Vietnam War Memorial is very famous, but don't miss the Korean War Memorial nearby. As well, take the metro to the Arlington Cemetery if you have time and see the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Bring water if it's hot.
Overall, the Days Inn hotel was great and the location was really convenient if you don't mind using the metro. The nearby food options were a bonus. Enjoy your trip!

I stayed at the Days Inn last month, and it was a great option, in a wonderful neighborhood. My family arrived in the morning, hours before check-in, and they held our luggage while we went out to explore DC. When we came back in the afternoon, our room was ready, and we were also informed that there was free internet access in the lobby! That was a nice bonus.

The room was clean, with a very awesome flat screen HDTV that actually had numerous cable channels available beyond sports, news, and local channels. The bathroom was clean and the towels were large and plentiful. The only negative thing was the lack of a towel rack in the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable, and I loved the sheets. Ice was free, which was nice. Also, the front desk staff was very helpful with any questions I had about recommendations.

Days Inn is located in a neigborhood with the Metro stop a short walk away. It was good having a CVS nearby. Granted, it's not in center city DC, but with the Metro nearby, it was easy to get to downtown. Finally, the price was great for the room we had. I will definitely go back.

This newly renovated property is quite a deal for the pricy DC market. I spent a week here attending a conference and was very impressed. The rooms are outstanding for this price range: full tile bathrooms with on trend curved shower curtains and wood/granite vanities featuring open shelving and a generous assortment of towels rolled in a decorative manner, big plump beds with soft cotton sheets and duvet covers, a selection of pillows, giant flat screen TV full of premium channels, great closets and a good desk chair and work area. The lobby had three high speed internet computers for guests. There were a few drawbacks. My bathtub didn't have a working drain stopper, so I improvised with a washcloth each night. The air conditioning was a big noisy unit, but I grew to love its dependable hum, the elevators were slow and old and there are no refridgerators or microwaves for guests. The location could not be better. My Arlington and Silver Spring friends and family loved its ease of access out of the city center, yet I was walking in the convention center door 20-30 minutes after leaving my hotel room. You are two easy blocks to the Van Ness/UDC metro stop in an area with plenty of eateries, drugstores, grocery stores, etc. I especially liked being so close to Politics and Prose bookstore, Rock Creek Park and the zoo and found the big hot and cold food deli/buffet restaurant Epicurian near the metro stop to be a lifesaver as it is open long hours. I grabbed an omlet and smashed potatoes to go each morning on my way to meetings and enjoyed a cold iced tea or bowl of ice cream on my way back to the hotel at night after dinner with friends. The food selection was fabulous.

Excellent price, very close to mall & zoo. Needs to change drapes to cover entire window, otherwise a very good deal for a DC hotel room close to the attractions. Metro station two blocks, easy walk to restaurants.

This is a good hotel for the price. The rooms were clean, comfortable. The front desk was helpful. The metro stop isn't that far away and there are many restaurants within walking distance. This hotel isn't 5 star, by any means, but very reasonable and a decent place to sleep. It is a little far from the central touristy things in DC such as the Capital, museums, etc. but again, the metro isn't that far away. And one is very close to the National Zoo, close enough to walk. Good to use as a "home base" and just to sleep. Would stay again.

We stayed 3 nights here and I would really reccommend this hotel to anybody who is looking for a great price hotel that is clean, in a safe area, and close to a metro station. Our room was on the 6th floor and was spacious with a huge bed, big tv, ironing board, coffee machine, hair dryer. There is also an in-room safe which we did use. It is a cost of $1.50 a day but at check in you are told that if you don't use it you won't need to pay for it - fair enough. There are several places to eat around the hotel...we never did, only because the metro is so close that you can head anywhere you want for something to eat. Also there is an Avis car rental place on site which made it even easier for us when we headed out of the city.

If you are going to stay here I would reccommend booking well in advance to get the best rates. We paid $99 a night which for this city is great value.
