I just returned from my 4th stay at One Washington Circle. Like anything, it has some good points and some bad, but the scales tipped towards good.
I reserved 3 nights--(Thurs/Fri/Sat) and after shopping around on the discount hotel websites, got the best rate by booking directly through the hotel. This is NOT always the case, so shop around. Anyway, our Thursday night rate was $209 (plus tax), and $159 a night for Fri./Sat. We ended up staying another night, and they were cool at the front desk and gave us the same discounted $159/night rate. I think the rate is extremely good for the hotel and its location.
We stayed in a corporate suite, which consisted of a small kitchen (with a big refrigerator, oven, microwave, sink, pots and pans, flatware, dishes, and glasses); mid-sized bathroom; small bedroom with a queen-sized bed; and a large living area. Even though it was just my fiance and I, we liked having the extra room to spread out. Our room had a balcony; I think that almost all of the suites at OWC do, which is a nice little luxury for a DC hotel. Also, the hotel has an outdoor pool and patio area, which is not opened until Memorial Day.
We walked around the Washington Circle area quite a bit and didn't find a place to eat breakfast nearby, so we ordered room service for breakfast every day, which came to about $25 per morning with tip included. That's reasonable, and the food was good. 2 out of 3 mornings, they screwed up the order, but made corrections quickly. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant or bar. Like everywhere in DC, the hotel is a minute-long walk from a Starbucks, so I was there every morning and afternoon for my caffeine.
On Friday, we left to sightsee at 8 a.m., and when we returned at 5 p.m., the room wasn't clean. They wanted to clean it right as we were coming back, and we said no, because we needed to shower and change for dinner. We asked if they could come back in an hour and they said absolutely not, they didn't clean the rooms after 6 p.m. Um, okay. We just asked for some fresh towels. But when we returned from dinner, the room WAS clean, so that worked out.
My fiance's biggest problem with the hotel was, we arrived late on Thursday. We opted to have the car valet parked. We left the car out front and gave the key to the man at the desk. An hour later, my fiance went out for a walk, and our car was parked on the side street next to the hotel--unlocked, with the key in the ignition, running. He flipped out. I mean, it's a safe enough area, but come on now! The guy at the front desk didn't really care, but we didn't see him again for the rest of our stay, and everyone else was very pleasant.
Regardless, I still recommend this hotel highly. It's small and kind of haphazardly managed, but the location is excellent (a 2-minute walk from the Foggy Bottom Metro station), the area is clean and safe, and the suites are very comfortable. It's nice to have a quiet little haven to come back to after sightseeing all day long, and when I'm in DC, One Washington Circle is that haven for me.
