“Convenient and clean, outdated decor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

We read mixed but mostly negative reviews on TripAdvisor after booking Channel on Orbitz. We were a little nervous prior to arrival. Contrary to other reviews, the place is very clean and the house keeping staff extraordinarily nice. Decor is outdated and the exterior doesnt look very nice. Price was the best we could find in DC and was very convenient to metro, national mall, grocery and more. They have an arrangement with a nearby sports facility where guests can work out and swim for free. We had a 3d floor room with balcony overlooking the channel. Free parking was a plus. Would definitely stay here again. If you are a princess or require 5 star accomodations, dont stay here.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the channel side of the hotel.

This place was probably at its best 25 years ago. Unfriendly staff at the front desk. Breakfast room good, location by channel could be great but is ruined by the constant noice from helicopters and airport. Short walk to Metro . Try another hotel if you are planning a trip to Washington.

The services for the owner and the staff of the Hotel. Never stay at this hotel if you value your life, money and comfort Why does TripAdvisor keep promoting them? I am sure it will be the worst night of your life. No fridge in room. The Water machine do not work and the food is old and rotten. Taxi do not want to come to this part of time. The toilet smell and the sheet never get changed. If you stay here after these true word, You get what you deserved.

Room Tip: Marriott was the best I ever had in a hotel.

When we entered this hotel it was like stepping back through time somewhere between 1978 and 1984. And believe me, to an English/French couple with a mild obsession with Columbo, Quincy and Murder She Wrote this was a very good thing. I read some complaints about the 'dated' decor before we booked, but to us this was only a bonus.

The view was also incredible, looking out over the boats on the river. I guess the fact it was a clear blue sunny sky when we arrived helped as well. Internet was good, bed comfortable, staff helpful.. I went down to the restaurant and asked for some hot water to make my own coffee and this wasn't a problem at all. Location is great, with the fish market just a few minutes walk away (you really should visit this place and sample the fresh cooked crab / prawns / corn). All the main sites / museums are all within walking distance and the area extremely safe / quiet at night.

We did get minor static shocks from touching each other after walking from one side of the room to the other but generally, this is very good value for money, but just be prepared for a distinctly average hotel.

My only complaints were the maid knocking on the door at 8am the day we were due to check out. She was friendly though. Also, the printer in reception didn't work, but then being as the hotel is stuck in the late 70s I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't know what a printer was.

Room Tip: Choose the view over the river

Channel Inn was typical American, rooms are all the same :) Old lobby, rooms were old too but clean, with terrace and view over the river, which was great. Staff wasnt very pleasant but we did not really have any problem. Hotel breakfast was quite costly, better to eat out somewhere else.

It was my first time in DC and at this hotel. My room was located on the 2nd floor right above the awning outside the main front entrance. The view was ugly. No other rooms were available to have a marina view. The front desk is clueless of the bus stops or transportation available outside their hotel. The room was clean but they did not replace the toiletry bottles used like mouthwash or shampoo. There are no shops on site. There is a cafe available limited hours during the day so make sure you eat before returning to your room because it will be closed. We spent two nights here and the guests on the third floor were extremely loud with their kids jumping off the bed late at night. Then there was a retirement party across our room with over 15 people in it at one time carrying on to late hours which caused another sleepless night. Nothing was done to compensate us.

Room Tip: NO pool or spa on site but there is one available a block away. Having free parking was the deciding...

I stayed in this hotel in January 2013. I chose it as it was located close to the metro (5 minutes). Although the hotel is dated, it was clean, the food was good and the staff were friendly. I would book this place again.

Room Tip: The viewof the channel was great!
