“Not bad, but could use some help”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013 via mobile

The positive side - the hotel is well located if you want to see the sights of Washington. The staff were pleasant, the breakfast buffet adequate for the price, the room clean and serviceable. On the nights the Washington Nationals were playing, the bar did a beer + chicken wings deal for $5. The TV had plenty of channels and pay movies, if you're planning on spending a lot of time in your room.

The average - the place needs refreshing in decor terms. The bathrooms, especially, are tired; but the curtained-off cupboard for clothes was a bit weak, the room safe permanently locked, and the air con was of the working but noisy variety.

The bad - they were completely unable to offer a late checkout as their cleaning shift ended at 3pm. I'd have been happy to pay, but it was a flat no. Parking was quite expensive, at $25 plus taxes a day; and when there is a ball game they rent out their garage so it can be hard to get the space you've paid for. And the overall room rate wasn't cheap.

Overall - would use the place again, but would probably try for one of the bigger chains in preference.

Thank you for your comments. We appreciate all feedback from our guests as it allows us to improve our services. We often allow for late checkouts as well as early check ins, however when the hotel is fully occupied as we often are, it is extremely difficult to allow even if a guest were to offer to pay. Our housekeeping services are available until 11 pm should there be a need. Parking is typically high in Washington, DC and we are proud of the fact that we are able to offer a rate for overnight parking well below the normal DC rates. Thank you again for your feedback.

Good location for a hotel, we were happy to be a 20 minute walk out of the Smithsonian, it was an easy walk or a $10 cab ride! Staff were generally happy and breakfast was included (in our package) so it saved us a fortune in food out at the money hungry tourist spots! The room we got was quite spacious but the bed wasnt the most comfy and was pretty small! Would still recommend it for a short stay.

This was a very good hotel at a good price for us for visiting Washington DC. This hotel is at a walk distance from the National Mall for persons that like to walk and very easy to find by car from the highway. Very good for all points of view. I recommand.

Employee quoted us a price over the phone that was not honored upon checkout. And our 10% AAA member discount was never deducted. After waiting 30 minutes just to speak to a manager, they told us it was in their "system" that the discounted was applied already, but upon request for paperwork showing the deduction...or any proof at all...the front desk manager and general manager started talking in circles. We told them that there was no way the discount could have been applied...because our AAA information was never given to anyone. And the employee told us to present our card upon checkout. That's when the front desk manager had the nerve to accuse us of lying and making up our own numbers. Never did we see a paper showing this discount was applied, and we ended up paying $100 more than what was quoted. We have never experienced customer service this bad. On top of all this, the rooms are extremely noisy...you hear every emergency response vehicle and will not sleep, it's in a bad neighborhood, there is no coffee...in fact no complimentary anything...WiFi is broken, window blinds broken, and the rooms are dark and dated with drywall cracked and peeling. Do yourself a favor and don't stay here. I have also called the better business bureau.

Thank you for your comments. We appreciate all feedback and use this information to better improve our services. After thoroughly reviewing your account, your rate was in fact honored and the AAA discount was applied. Myself and the Director of Revenue Management spoke with you and actually explained where the discount was applied on the guest folio. Our staff has a tremendous amount of integrity and as you will see from many of the other comments, our staff friendliness and attentiveness is well noted. The hotel offers not only complimentary WIFI for basic web browsing, but also a complimentary shuttle to major tourist attractions in the Washington DC area. Our location is a developing area and conveniently located to the Capital and the National Mall.

We stayed at the Capitol Skyline for 3 nights last week. The advertised rate was ok ...around $200 a night with tax.....but not a real bargain like some reviews say. Perhaps the time of year has something to do with that. The first thing I would say is that the term ' Luxury Hotel ' needs to change ! There may be luxuries but I failed to see any that were free of charge. If you wanted a coffee maker ( luxury ? ) it costs you $15 a day... Same with the microwave....additional $ 15 a day....oh....and if you need a fridge.....for medications.....or formula or anything else....Yep another $15 a day. So for a 3 night stay this adds $135 to your bill ! Well perhaps the ironing board in the room was the luxury ? I did request a microwave upon check in. None arrived that night. Next morning requested again. None arrived. Requested a 3rd time later that day ....a young man arrived with the microwave. He sits it on the floor and plugs it in. On the floor ! The cord was too short to reach any other open outlet. We sent him in search of an extension cord. He did not come back, he may still be wandering somewhere on the 7th floor ! Soooo made the 4th request. Eventually another person arrived. Said the microwave HAD to be right on the table.... where we had just been eating ! REALLY ??? No place to eat.....or work other than that table ! Thanks ! Always thought it was cool to eat in bed !
The staff was pleasant but any problems reported never seemed to trickle down/over to the maintenance people. We had 2 rooms ...Booked at the same time by the same person and paid by that person. One would think logic would tell the hotel that 2 rooms next to, across from or adjoining would make sense. Nope. The rooms were on the 7th ( top ) floor. VERY dated....peeling wallpaper and crumbling drywall around windows. The rooms were quite warm so we tried the air con....the air con blew out heat. Tried the heat and it blew out heat. This was the same in both rooms. Called the desk. Air con has not been turned on yet for the season so just use the fan to cool down. Tried just the fan....it blew out heat ! Can not open windows....nice and toasty on a day when it was warm. Gave up. I will say though the rooms for the most part were clean. Oh....and if you are a smoker there is a ' designated smoking area '. In the under ground garage which is weird....I am sure people going in and out love to walk thru the smoke....and if any car windows were left open....even a little.....guess what would happen. We went outside. Healthier for all concerned. We will not stay here again. There were too many problems- issues to deal with for a short vacation. And we would not recommend this hotel to any of our friends or family. A budget type hotel/motel would be a better choice if price is a concern.

Room Tip: Avoid the 7th floor !

We arrived early but they allowed us to check in anyway. We got to the room opened the door and found other people's belongings in the room. First of all good thing we our honest people and second good thing no one was naked in that room.We went back downstairs and told the girl at the front desk, who barely looked at us with her "sorry". The manager must have heard us and told her to upgrade our room which was a nice surprise. The room was nice but dated. The toilet constantly ran. The one movie channel we got on the tv was static. Do not attempt to sleep at this hotel if you are a light sleeper because we heard everything from the outside, including all dispatched ambulance, fire, police sirens, and we were on the third floor. I have to say that the king bed we had was very comfortable though. Checkout was easy. Breakfast is overpriced for what you get. We enjoyed the complimentary shuttle however it only brings you to monuments, and not back to hotel. Also, on our last day we waited for the shuttle but it never came so we asked the front desk and they rudely told us that it was a different color shuttle today. This caused us to miss it so we had to pay for a cab.

We stayed at the capitol skyline on April 2 thru April 5th of 2013. Very clean and a wonderful freindly staff. Have a free shuttle that will drop you off at certain spots to see the sites. They only drop off but don't pick up so you have to make other arrangements to return to the hotel. They did not have a laundry room to wash your clothes. Also their restaurant only served two choices to pick from on the dinner menu. Food was good but would had like more choices on the menu. On the corner was a McDonald's and that was all. Would not recommend going out at night in the area.
