“Solid and Affordable Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

This is a quality, very affordable hotel to stay in while visiting Washington, D.C. The hotel itself is nice, with good sized, clean rooms and a helpful and friendly staff. When you step outside, you have a great view of the Capitol building. The hotel is within walking distance of the Metro and National's Park (for you baseball fans). In short, it is a budget friendly hotel that is accessible to many attractions.

If there is a downside to the location, it's that there are little to no quality dining options around the hotel. At night, you are stuck with the hotel bar or the McDonald's across the street, unless you want to hail a cab or take the train to find something. Still, for a quick trip to the Nation's Capitol, you could do much worse than this quality property.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Capitol. It's worth it.

Great location, walkable to the Capitol, Supreme Ct. Etc. nice large rooms, clean and great value. I would certainly stay again. Just have breakfast at McDonald's across the street, not the hotel buffet. Otherwise a really goodpick.

This hotel is under rated! The staff is awesome, the rooms are well kept and the location is perfect. The price for the rooms cannot be beat.
They have a wonderful and very reasonable priced breakfast buffet.
Oh, the beds were so comfortable.
You cannot go wrong staying at the Capitol Skyline Hotel. Trust me.
It is a busy hotel so book early. Next time in DC, we will be staying at this hotel over and over again. It can’t be beat!

Five of us stayed here for three nights as we had a gig at the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum which was nearby. We had to be budget conscious and this place fit that need. I was expecting the worst and many locals downplayed the place. Shame on me and shame on them. The rooms were clean, beds comfortable, and the staff was excellent. This place appears to be privately owned and not a part of a big chain, but it's evident that they are striving to be the best that they can be within their parameters. It was actually a pretty hip joint. We all dug the electro/Hawaiian mood music they played in the lobby along with the 2001 Space Odyssey furnishings. The food and bar is limited for dinner with a prix fixe menu and the food was nothing special. We ate there solely out on convenience. I would and will return.

Room Tip: Get a room in the front with a view of the Capitol.

They keep it as clean as they can, but this is an older hotel with the feel of being well used. The room was comfortable, with a flat screen and clean linens, but there was less than you'd expect overall. For example, there is no complementary coffee, either in the room or in the lobby... I haven't experienced that in a long time. The neighborhood is far from agreeable for walking or finding a place to eat... Care is required if you are going for a walk. This is not the safest of areas. The lobby staff were nice and helpful, but the overall cost cutting and old age feel made me check out a day early... The price may be right, but if you aren't driving or want a good hotel environment for relaxing or entertaining, this is not the place.

I stayed in the Capitol Skyline for a few nights for a business trip. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was ok: lots of choice for the breakfast buffet and the evening dinner seemed to have the same 3 option menu every night so I only ate there once.
The hotel is dated, apart from the lobby which has been redecorated, and the rooms could do with a make over. It is far from the city centre and is within 15-20mins walking distance from two metro stations.
It gets slightly noisy with ambulance, fire trucks and police cars driving at all hours of the night so take ear plugs!
Everything was going fine until I made the unpleasant discovery of a used condom stuffed into a hole in a wall. I called the reception for them to send someone to remove it and had to call them back 45mins later as no one had arrived. This was particularly unpleasant and was barely acknowledged by the staff (only the poor handy man who came to remove it apologised)..

I won't be returning here..

I expected the worst after reading Tripadvisor reviews. I knew the hotel rates were among the cheapest in DC, but since this was a sponsored trip, I braced myself for poor service and room conditions.
as it turned out, the rooms were as expected- peeling, in need of better cleaning and renovation.
The location of the hotel exceeded my expectations - I had a good view of the Capitol dome from my room, could take a bus easily from the airport, and was only 3 sops from Gallery-Chinatown on the metro. The hotel lobby was interesting- kitschy wallpaper set off designer furniture by the likes of Frank Gehry.
Food was the best surprise: the breakfast and dinner were hearty and were a steal in DC for the prices asked.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor or a betters view of the Capitol.
