“Good hotel but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

All in all we were quite satisfied with the hotel but there were a few things missing to reach a good overall rating. First we had a bug in our hotel room, better to say in the basin, things like this could happen but they should not. The Capitol Skyline is close to downtown and National Gallery area but to reach the train/subway you need to go through a low-medium housing area.
The service was very good especially by the concierge who was all the time very helpful.

We are glad to hear you enjoyed the service and location of our hotel! You are correct when you say things like the incident in the basin should not happen, and we assure it will not happen again. We hope that when you make your next trip to DC we hope you stay with us again!

Nothing impressive, some ok stuff and lots of room for improvement.
No roomservice, expensive parking, rooms are very dimm (3 lamps in total), tasteless brown furnishing and painting, wifi is awfully slow, location does not feel very safe, no eating places nearby, no cable tv, and breakfast not included.
Reception service is ok, rooms are clean, reasonable comfortable beds, though noisy... so all in all, no real deal in this one.

Nothing is as promised. No coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator, wi-fi. Breakfast is $13.95 and is less food than the average small motel free breakfast. No coffee or tea available except for purchase. Staff can only apologize when there is a problem but don't care or do anything to correct it. I called Hotel directly prior to making reservations and asked basic questions to make sure this place would be OK to stay at. Was given the answers I expected to hear but upon arrival found out information given was untrue. We are in our 70s, and have never been to Washington DC before. The experience at this hotel has gone a long way to try to make this trip into a negative experience instead of a positive one. SHAME ON YOU.

Room Tip: Don't stay here

This is a very basic hotel, but I loved my time there because the staff was so helpful and nice. The hotel is a 10-15 minute walk from Capitol Hill, and it's cheaper than most hotels in the area. I would definitely return.

Room Tip: The views of the Capitol are great!

I booked this hotel on whim..Noticed a couple days before my trip that I forgot to book a hotel for the night we got to the DC..Got a great rate and bought Nat tickets for $3. Nationals Park is a mere 3 blocks away!

Check in was a breeze, rooms were comfy, yes it was loud because of all the sirens, but nothing some ear plugs couldnt cover up. We had a great view of the Capitol Building from our room.

We went to the McDonalds across the street for breakfast (also was told that there was a subway near by), didnt see any "transients" or shadey individuals, just people getting some breakfast before work.

10 minute walk to the Capitol Building, a 5 minute walk to the Subway. Yeah, not the best neighborhood, but not worse than some I have seen living in LA and visiting NYC. I felt safe walking back from the baseball game, however, I think the walk to the Capitol Building would be a little iffy at night.

Would I stay here again? Sure!!!

The best days are behind for this hotel but we had a very pleasant stay the staff were excellent. The exterior of the building is of its time and now looks very dated. The interior public rooms and exceptions now looks retro chich! The outdoor pool was too distressed to be relaxing and probably best avoided.
The location near the old navy yard would have put it on the wrong side of the tracks. However, this is an up and coming area and suddenly the site is well place again. That said there are too few facilities available. the attached restrurant is pricey and limited. The macdonalds opposite was very convenient. Overall excellent value for money and I would stay again.

We stayed in this hotel in June 2012 on a trip down the East coast. We booked it because it was a good price and fairly close to the centre. However we were disappointed from the moment we arrived. After we phoned ahead to inform staff that we would be arriving later than planned we found they'd cancelled our booking, and apparently had no other rooms ready despite it only being four hours after we planned to arrive! We had to wait an hour for them to find us a room and the staff were very unhelpful.
The surrounding area is not nice and we didn't feel particularly safe walking to and from the hotel. If you don't want to eat in the hotel restaurant (which is expensive with a limited menu) there's very little choice nearby.
Our stay was also spoilt because we were unable to use the pool when we wanted. The first day there was a 'Neighbourhood Pool Party' which although open to guests was unappealling: lots of teenagers and loud music. The second day the pool had been hired out for a local 8 year olds birthday party! Not exactly fair on paying hotel guests.
Breakfast was also very expensive and a boring buffet with not much choice.
The only good thing was the shuttle bus however this was running 30 minutes late on our second day.
I would not recommend this hotel.
