Description: Oyamel combines Mexico's rich regional diversity with the modern urban atmosphere of Mexico City. The liveliness of the dining room is matched by the creativity of the menu and cocktail list, featuring antojitos-Mexican small plates-ceviches and tacos, plus unique margaritas, and an impressive array of wines and tequilas. Originally opened in 2004 in the Crystal City neighborhood of Arlington, Oyamel moved to its current home in the Penn Quarter in March of 2007.

“mexican special-yummyness”

Every dish has some different taste or texture to surprise and wow your mouth with. And did I mention that the drinks are absurdly good also.

“Best Mexican in the City”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2012

Hands-down one of the top five best in the city. Their brunch is amazing, and dinner is fantastic. The decor is nice, and it feels warm enough for a date or family event, but suitable for business too.

“Fun place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2012

This is a lively Mexican restaurant, but we're not talking chicken tacos and cheese enchiladas here. During DC "Restaurant Week," I had a 5 course tasting menu, small plates, a chayote salad, black bean soup, roasted brussels sprouts, BBQ pork in a soft corn tortilla and pumpkin flan. Yummy. $35, plus a trendy cocktail seasoned with chile.

“Standout Mexican”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2012

Have found most Mexican restuarants to be cliches but this place is a standout. Unique menu choices. Food exceptional. Service was excellent. Drink and desert choices were also unique and tasty. Will return often.

“Guac-a-bowl-ay! lunch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2012

Enjoyed a quiet lunch after New Year's. Best guacamole service: prepared with flair at the table, accompanied by fresh salsa and chips. Requested the vegetarian menu. Tacos de hongos were fabulous: sautéed wild mushrooms with garlic and shallots. My favorite: crispy brussel sprouts with chili sauce, pumpkin seed, peanuts, and lime. Torta with grilled shrimp was a little salty, but better than food cart fare. Love the ambiance with bright oranges and limes for aguas frescas. Friendly staff.
