"Firehook Bakery" , just beside an exit from Dupont Circle Metro Station, is a compact Coffee Shop, apparently part of a chain. We liked this outlet & visited it a couple of times during our recent short trip to Washington, D.C.
The decor is quite attractive - semi-raw wood finish with several high stools & small tables / benches. Atmosphere was helped by a welcoming friendly staff & a radio tuned to the local (light) classical music station.
Firehook offers a wide selection of cookies, cakes, pastries, sandwiches & breads. The coffee is very good and reasonably priced : a medium Cappucino was $3.05, an Americano $2.45, and a quite acceptable "House Blend" $1.75 - we bought a bag of "House Blend Beans".(Don't forget you have to add 10% tax to purchases like this in D.C.) The accompanying cookies & muffins were equally well-priced.
We thought there was no Restroom, but discovered that you access this facility by asking for a key at the Counter - beware, this Restroom, in our experience, would win no awards !.
If you're visiting this neighbourhood, around the corner in one direction you'll find the impressive "Kramerbooks", and up the other direction there's an interesting Photographic Prints Shop run by Claude Taylor - aside from his artistic talents he's a fascinating raconteur on everything to do with the U.S. Democratic Party !
