“B&B benchmark”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

It's been almost a year since we stayed for 3 nights and we've been meaning to write a review for ages. Just last night we were talking with friends about great holiday experiences and our stay at Embassy Circle came to mind. Almost 12 months on we won't forget 'wine time' where we gathered with Laura and Raymond and other guests to share our day's experiences. The b&b itself is a beautiful building, the rooms fine, the food great and the staff excellent. We felt very much at home and personally catered for yet also able to do our own thing.

This was my fourth stay and it is worth flying 20 hours just to stay here. I was travelling with my daughter and stayed two single nights. The first night we had a beautiful king size room that was so huge we were incredibly comfortable. We arrived travel weary, but the wine was open and we felt immediately welcomed. We went to New York and arrived back a few days later in the evening. Our gorgeous downstairs twin room had loads of space and two exceptionally comfortable double beds. Breakfast is always fantastic but what makes the place so very special is the wonderful staff that Raymond and Laura employ. They must be fantastic employers as the women are just the most gorgeous, warm, helpful people you would ever meet - and of course, Laura and Raymond are the epitome of what hosts should be like - yes we will be back again!

Room Tip: I have stayed in lots and they are all just gorgeous

Charming, gracious, spotless, beautifully appointed, did I say charming? We don't have enough accolades for this special home. Thank you Laura and Raymond for a wonderful visit. We look forward to returning again and again.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 111 which is opposite the parlor, next to the front entrance and facing the street...

What a great five night stay at the Embassy Circle Guesthouse! I was looking for an alternative to a big city hotel and found it in spades at this gem of a B&B. Some high points:
• Sense of place – the Guesthouse is a meticulously restored former embassy with fine traditional furnishings and hand picked artwork. The ambience is one of comfort and elegance.
• Friendly, warm hospitality – our hosts, Laura and Raymond, were fantastic in making guests feel welcome. There is a positive energy that emanates from their hands-on care; here are two people who genuinely enjoy being innkeepers.
• At breakfast and the late afternoon happy hour, guests would gather and discuss where they’ve been and swap stories. We met really interesting people from the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia. The managers, Angela and Betty were also happy to assist with any reservations, directions or advice.
• My husband had a special dietary requirement and we really appreciated how they accommodated him. Breakfasts always had fresh fruit salad, juices, a hot dish, breads and salmon.
• Comfortable beds and well thought out rooms and bathrooms. We had a room on the third floor. It’s easy to get a good nights rest here!
• Immaculately clean.
• Reliable wi-fi.
• Location – easy access to the metro and many restaurants for dinner in the area. We loved walking around the immediate vicinity with the embassies and also the short walk to Georgetown.

There is no doubt that when we return to Washington, D.C., it will be to the Embassy Circle Guesthouse!

I must agree with other reviewers that the Embassy Circle is a truly unique place to stay. The hosts Laura and Raymond and the staff will do everything they can to make you feel welcome. Every morning Laura joined the guests for breakfast introducing new guests and getting the conversation going. One afternoon Raymond prepared delicious appetizers from his native Lebanon for all guests.
The house has a remarkable story as a former Taiwanese embassy. It was restored from ruin to perfection by Raymond’s building company. It was very interesting to hear Laura and Raymond tell about the history of the house and the renovation project. It is located in a quiet area near Dupont Circle with only a 10 minute walk to the Metro. Also the White House and Georgetown are within walking distance. There are plenty of nice restaurants in the area. Our favorite was the Osteria Sette.
We happened to arrive at the peak of the cherry blossom season and the weather was absolutely magnificent. Coming directly from a long cold winter in Europe it was really nice to just walk around in this beautiful city and enjoy the scenery. We will have to come back and visit the museums some other time.
I can only recommend that you stay in this remarkable place and experience it for yourself.

This beautifully restored home is a fabulous place to stay when visiting DC. The owners, Laura and Raymond, are the warmest and most charming hosts that you can imagine. After our first stay with them four years ago, we felt like we had known them forever. The rooms are appointed with antiques and lovely oriental rugs, beautiful artwork, and comfy beds. The bathrooms are clean, sleek and nicely stocked with English shampoos and soaps.
The daily breakfast always has something made with the organic eggs that Raymond picks up at the local farmers market each Sunday morning. Several coffee cakes , fresh fruit, cheeses, salmon and capers, and wonderful breads compliment the delicious coffee and teas. The huge dining room table is always the center for wonderful conversation at breakfast with international guests. The living room is the setting for the nightly wine and cheese get together. There are cookies and brownies in the afternoon to nibble on after a long day of touring.
The location is great with many embassies around the B and B. Metro is close , as are many wonderful restaurants.
It is always a treat to stay here.

Room Tip: There are only great rooms. The size of the bed would be the one decision to make

We stay with Laura and Raymond at their beautiful and well-situated inn when we travel to DC to visit our daughter. All the superlatives voiced by other reviewers, including the practice of real conversation at the drawing room or at the breakfast table, are right on. One of the many plusses here. though, is the delightful staff -- especially Angela and Betty, who provide a special sense of hospitality to the inn. The gueshouse feels like "or place" now, and we'll look forward to returning to our "DC family" over the years to come. Simply put, a great place.
