This has quickly become one of my go-to places in downtown DC. The food is incredible, varied and plentiful. The staff are incredibly attentive and the Latin fusion concept is fresh and different. Judging by the happy hour crowd every night, this also has become one of the hot new spots downtown.
Depending upon your hunger level Toro Toro, you can order from a variety of excellent small plates; from several featured meat dishes; or the full monty of a little bit of everything. The small plates are split into cold and hot. A few favorites are seafood ceviche, seared scallops, grilled caesar and the shortrib flatbread. The grilled octopus was flavorful but overcooked.
The meat offerings are fewer than a Fogo de Chao but are very well prepared. The New York strip was one of the most flavorful, tender steaks I have ever had. It would be worth the visit all by itself.
Finally, Toro Toro is a great spot for happy hour. The downstairs bar is something that must be seen and experienced. They also serve some very innovative signature cocktails as well as the more traditional offerings. Just a warning that it is vibrant, energetic crowd in case your are expecting something quieter.
