This inn is an antidote to concrete sidewalks and coldly imposing government buildings. The decor combines fine antiques and lavish country cottage furnishings to create a relaxing sanctuary. The reception and employees are warm and helpful, the buffet breakfast varied and elegantly presented in a friendly atmosphere, and there are extras like late afternoon cookies and special drinks. The cost is most reasonable. The only drawback is a location that requires use of a bus or taxi to get to tourist and government locations. The Wysteria room, over-the-top lush with gorgeous floral decor, offers a bathroom using natural stone to beautify an elegant enormous shower and extra-deep 2-person jacuzzi. The Hollywood room, while less ornate, was charming and comfortable.
We felt right at home as soon as we entered the Intown Uptown Inn. Sandy, Emily and Mike are very gracious hosts but they are also very warm and family-like. Breakfast was delicious different every morning, and Henry joined the "clean your plate (and mine) club" as dubbed by Emily. Our room was charming and had everything we could need. The bus lines is so close and runs all day long. We spent our days out and about but when we arrived back at the inn, whether it was 6pm or 11pm there was wine and fresh cookies waiting for us. We highly recommend this location if you are planning a trip to DC.
We very much enjoyed our stay, the house is beautiful, the innkeeper/owner is warm and so very helpful, the breakfast was plentiful and fresh, the bed was very comfortable, and the bathtub was divine.
We stayed in the Hollywood suite. If you are noise sensitive at all I'd bring a sound machine (I used my iPad) because it is a front facing room and there is some street noise in the early morning. It didn't bother us at all with the sleep machine sounds.
There is a bus stop across the street that gets you to and from The Mall, where most of the museums and government buildings are, in about 35 minutes.
My wife and I stayed at The Intown Uptown over Memorial Day weekend for a wedding. This was one of the best B&B's we have ever stayed at, everything was wonderful. We ended up in the basement and the room was nice and cool, which helped since it was 95 degrees that weekend. Everything in the house has been remodeled, kudos to Sandy for all the work that went to it. Even though we were right off the kitchen, we didn't notice that much. In fact, the smell of breakfast cooking in the morning was a great way to wake up.
Speaking of breakfast, Mike is a fabulous cook! It's nice to go to a B&B and get a real cooked breakfast. Also, a thumbs up to the margarita's they served us for happy hour.
The atmosphere for the wedding was fantastic, the backyard; although it's in a neighborhood, was big and the bar area is a nice touch. Everyone there had such a wonderful time!
Emily was great with advice on things to do and helpful when we, er, needed some more beer at the tail end of the wedding reception 8-)
For what we were doing, this was a great location and a fun place to stay. It's a bit of a walk (2 miles I think) to the nearest Metro station so you'd definitely need a car if staying here and you want to travel around. But there is plenty of *free* parking on the street in a very safe area.
All in all a great time and a memorable trip for all those involved with the wedding!
