An architecturally very interesting building updated with virtually any amenity that you would be looking for. Good sized room (the Da Vinci) with fireplace, whirlpool tub, plasma TVs and a toilet that you have to see for yourself. Given the cost of hotels in good areas of DC while pricey it was worth the extra money. Lots of open common areas to relax in. The host, Terence, is helpful and knowledgeable with out being intrusive.

A Bed and Breakfast is a gamble. 'Historic' can mean outdated, 'Quaint' can mean tiny and 'Charming' means it lacks modern conviences. The host might be difficult to find or around way too much. We took a risk and found a major reward in the Artists Inn Residence.
The host is a practical perfectionist and his detailed touch is evident everywhere. From arrival to departure we were constantly amazed at the attention to detail. The rooms are simply amazing. They all have a theme and no expense has been spared in the execution. There are a ton of little items I could mention.. but I will not spoil the surprises. I will tell you this, we've stayed in the $1000+ a night luxury hotels and while they do have some advantages, I would gladly pay the *same* amount and stay here. Forget that you will be saving hundreds of dollars a night... this place is just perfect!!

Also.. goto their website and read the articles and see the pictures. You can trust what you see as we found it to be better than the pictures!

We started looking at B&Bs when we saw the price of hotel rooms in DC. The home is 2 brownstones that were gutted and transformed into a retreat. Every detail was put into the remodel including an elevator to bring up your bags. The breakfast is casual and delicious with several options available. We had the Shakespeare room and there is nothing more we could have asked for. The bath has heated floors, walk in shower, whirlpool tub, and even a TV. Our host Terry was very pleasant and we have already recommended this B&B to our friends. There are several excellent restaurants that are quick to walk to and we never used our rental car since the Metro was also close by.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Artists Inn Residence. Great location, great host, great breakfast, great rooms & amenities. We'll be sure to stay there the next time we're in DC.

  • Liked — Stands above the rest in terms of value for the money, plus a great location
  • Disliked — There wasn't anything I didn't like, and I have pretty high expectations.

The property is located in the heart of Dupont Circle. It's centrally located and very close to the Metro (subway) for ease of transport throughout DC. It's within walking distance to many great shops and restuarants. The property itself is impressive. It's been renovated with all the modern luxuries without losing its charming Bed and Breakfast feel. A wonderful art galley encompasses the first floor. We stayed for a week and switched rooms during our stay. Every room has a different theme and is decorated nicely. Every room we stayed in had a flat screen TV in the bedroom and bath, fireplace, newly remodeld bathroom with heated bathroom floor and wifi. The owners spared no expense in the quality of materials used in the renovation. It's defintely a 5 star experience. Lastly, our innkeeper, Terry, was an awesome host. He made us feel comfortable and attended to our every need. It's a great place to get luxury accomodations with a personal touch.

Artists Inn Residence offers amazing rooms - spacious, nicely decorated (they have themes, but not in a kitschy or overpowering way) each with a spectacular bathroom, as well as gracious, relaxing public rooms (library and dining room), a computer for internet access, delicious breakfasts, and (a key item in DC summers) free bottled water. You get all of this at a price point lower than the nearby hotels (which, while very nice, don't offer the amenities or intimate scale of this B&B). The day we arrived, most of the rooms were being turned, so we had a chance to see almost all of them, and each offers a distinctive and luxurious atmosphere. The location is also great - just 3 blocks from the Metro. I would not hesitate to recommend this B&B to anyone looking for rooms in this price range.

Terence has a wonderful bed and breakfast in Washington, DC. It is an oasis of beauty and refinement. We stayed in the Leonardo Di Vinci room which reminded me a villa in the Tuscan region of Italy. The ceiling had the wood beams, and rustic appearance which was grand. There were flat screen televisions in the bedroom area as well as the bathroom in addition there was a gas fireplace which was awesome. The bathroom had an awesome shower stall and Jacuzzi tub.

The overall living quarters were fantastic!! The dining room, library was comfortable enough that I could live in al those rooms.
