“Highly Reccomend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2014

We recently spent a few days with Mathilda Cox, proprietress of the Vermont Avenue B&B and Emma “Cox”, her able assistant Welsh corgi mix. Mathilda has owned her charming row house for 26 years, but only opened recently as a B&B. She is a “natural” as a B&B hostess, charming, extremely knowledgeable about D.C. and very interested in people. We stayed in the “Master Bedroom” a very large, beautifully decorated room complete with large windows and a fireplace. The attached bathroom is also large and welcoming with many upscale bath fixtures and appointments. Mathilda has a background in decorating and it shows throughout the B&B! The location of the B&B is excellent, just off Logan Circle, within walking distance of many good restaurants. The bus and Metro stops are close by. If you bring a car, parking is available nearby, but we strongly suggest walking and public transportation around D.C. We had a fabulous stay and highly recommend the Vermont Avenue B&B for your next stay in D.C.

From a cup of tea on arrival to eggs just how I like them in the morning, host Mathilda added a personal note to my stay in DC on business. The home is beautiful--1880s, high ceilings, unique fireplace tiles. Added bonus: a cute canine to pet. Also, everything was VERY CLEAN---much appreciated.

Room Tip: My room, with queen bed, was beautifully decorated and comfortable. Has own heating unit inside room...

A delightful experience.

My daughter lives within walking distance and it is just what we've been looking for. After a few years of staying at hotels in the area (all good experiences) when the house is full, Mathilda's lovely home provided us a closer, more comfortable alternative that will be our go to option moving forward. Great host, two lovely rooms, each with beautiful baths, great location, just very warm and fuzzy. Our only regret was a very busy schedule that didn't allow for more time there to just relax. Next time. And the time after that.

Room Tip: Front room is more spacious but back room is away from street and quieter.
