“Great fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013 via mobile

As someone who's really picky and who reads reviews a lot I stayed here during the Vice President debate.
The hostel has a great location with tons of shops and bars around, near the metro, and has a very fun, homey atmosphere. Great place to meet ppl. I met some from England, Norway and Brazilian and we all went out.
Sure you may be concerned about cleanliness but its fine. Kitchen is good, restrooms good and rooms are fine. The owner is really funny too and it's jut a cozy spot. I highly recommend it.

I understand some of the negative reviews, but they are exaggerated, and probably from travelers who have no business in a hostel in the first place. It is loud here at night, but only because it is located on a bustling strip of bars and clubs. The noise from the street is easily defeated with ear plugs. The owner is quirky, and socially awkward, but he is a nice well meaning guy. Just be open minded. It is clean. We skipped the breakfast and opted for the diner located literally right downstairs. The location has access to the whole city. There is a bus stop right across the street. 20 minute, safe walk from all DC has to offer. This is a safe, decent hostel, with an unbeatable location to make up for other shortcomings.

Generally speaking this hostel is extremely excellent. I think so mainly because of its location--right located in Adams Morgan, the most intriguing district that embraces a vibrant diversity in DC! There are Mexican, Chinese, Thai, Arabic, and even Ethiopian restaurants right across the street! The most well-known music band and night clubs just several footsteps away! All kinds of grocery stores that fulfill your daily needs are in a dense cluster that can be reached in minutes! I personally rank it as my favorite also because of the service there--people who are working in this hostel can be very nice! I am a Chinese, and sometimes they even offered me service in Chinese! :D There is only one flaw that somebody may need to consider--the facilities there are not as fancy as I came across in a little hostel in New York City. Anyhow, those pans, cups, ovens, refrigerator and some others are already enough to satisfy all your needs for cooking, food storing, sleeping, showering, or so...Ah, they do have FREE early morning breakfast! I am in China right now using a proxy to write this review on Google+ (a function which these days is blocked in China and needed logging in with proxy service--which means my actual IP may be an American one although I am in China...Would it be possibly understood? LOL). Now that I have got an offer from a graduate program in DC and thereby I will come back to US next summer, I am looking forward to coming back to this hostel once I land in DC again. It is always a wonderful place to start :)

I booked this hostel only because at the last moment I had to find a place to sleep, and all the other hostels were already full. The owner and all the people who work at the "reception" are very unprofessional and rude. In the morning you always find people sleeping in the common room, the floor is covered with rubbish and so are the table (see photos). They promise a breakfast from 8 to 10, but the only things you can find in the "kitchen" at that time are several food containers already opened and in very bad conditions (see photos). The sink is full of dirty dishes that nobody will wash. The rest of the hostel is unclean and unpleasant.
The rooms are right above a club, so on saturday night it's literally impossible to sleep.
The only good thing about this hostel may be the location, because it is located in an area with lot of clubs and pubs.
I would never go back to that place. Stay away !!

This place is interesting. The location is to die for nexted to the diner, clubs and good shopping as well as amenities like cvs and safeway. However, it is not so close to the metro. The actual hostel is not clean. The sheets do not fit thebed and it is greatly in need of a clean. Half the people who stay there are long term meaning their stuff is everywhere. The breakfast is nonn existent. The bathrooms are actually clean. The staff is what you would expect for the price.

Located in Adams Morgan, a really nice and lively area of Washington, which is why we chose this hostel. Surrounded by bars and restaurants...and a club...but I'll get back to that.
Stayed here for 2 nights in October with my boyfriend, in a private room, shared bathroom. The bedroom was large, and the bed ok, but the curtain to the window was shorn in half (quite literally), and there was dust and dirt all over the window sill. The bathroom next door to the room was actually relatively clean.
You must pay in cash upon arrival, and put down deposits for your room keys (which you aren't told about when booking through hostelworld), however the owner of the hostel was really friendly.
The hostel is not your average hostel, it is very small, and seems almost like someones run down home...and there were always boys on the sofas (someone has mentioned this in a review below), which doesn't sound odd, but is a little disconcerting.
We could have taken all this in our stride and enjoyed the hostel for what it was (real cheap in a great area) if it hadn't been for the fact our room was above a nightclub. It was the LOUDEST room I have ever attempted to sleep in. We actually laughed the first night when we came back to our room at 11pm, as it was so loud we may as well have been in the club ourselves. We had to leave and go to a bar till 2am, when it stopped, and then 3am the next night, just to avoid the noise.....not great!
Over all, this hostel could be brilliant as it is in such a nice location and the owner seems nice. But it was dishevelled, dirty, uncared for, and above a club (I guess double glazing could help this).
Don't stay here if you want sleep! Perfect for party goers.

The location was great, an easy bus ride or walk from the main attractions of Washington and the street itself has got loads of great restaurants and bars.

The hostel mentions that it has free parking, which is a bit misleading - they have one pass to a nearby carpark, which is available on a first come first serve basis, and if that has already been given out you will have to pay.

The guy who checked us in was not the most welcoming, and did insist in being paid in cash, which we were not told about when we booked. We paid him and he gave us change from a huge stack of notes, but when we asked him about 5 minutes later to change a $5 to $1 he said he had no change on him. Petty but fairly indicative of the attitude of the staff.

We stayed in a 6 bed mixed dorm, which appeared at first glance to be reasonably clean, but the next door bathroom had a completely full bin and was generally dirty, as was the kitchen. When we checked out we took our sheets off and saw a used condom under the bed so not too sure when the room was last properly cleaned.
