Great location - right in the heart of Adams Morgan area but a dirty little hostel - no-one did any washing or tidying whist I was there and the kitchen remained untouched for a week.

Forget the breakfast - do you want to scrape peanut butter out of a litre jar that's had god knows how many hands in it over the preceding two months and spread it over some limp bread that's been left overnight on the window sill? Not me!

I'd like to first off say that after reading a lot of the reviews of this hostel, i feel the need to say that yes, this is not the Ritz Carlton. It isn't even a Days Inn motel. It is a dirt cheap hostel in the centre of DC, where you can bed down for less than $30 a night and be in the centre of the city within minutes of leaving the front door. Is it the same quality as a reputable Hostelling International hostel- no. Is it basic? Most definately. But is it in a great location? Absolutely.

The rooms are small, in need of some TLC and filled with old school style cast iron bunk beds. The beds aren't the comfiest in the world but they arent uncomfortable. There aren't lockers in the rooms but there are half a dozen in the small communal area. There is wifi and a computer available in said communal area which takes coins only. The kitchen area is scruffy but will serve you well if all you want in the morning is a cup of tea and a slice of toast. The sheets are clean and at no point do they do they pretend to provide towels and a deluxe service for you; frankly, from a hostel at this price, that should not be a suprise. The bathrooms do leave a lot to be desired but they provide clean hot water and locks on the doors- the essentials. Run by students for students, the hostel's staff are willing to help you find your way, providing directions and information in the communal area in countless languages regarding sights, public transportation, bars and other services nearby.

Located in the bustling AdamsMorgan, this hostel is ideal for those looking to party a few nights in the city on their travels. The hostel itself is located above a strip of busy bars and clubs and is therefore loud on weekends and so earplugs are a great idea. If you are looking for somewhere a little quieter, then opting for accommodation elsewhere in somewhere other than party central is a wise move.

If you like things spotless, quiet and professional, pay more and go elsewhere.
If you are happy to overlook the fact that this place is in need of a lot of tlc in order to gain a bed in this prime central location for a tiny price, then you'll be just fine!

Room Tip: Don't be naive about what you are getting for your money!

The hostel is in a nice street fool of pubs and restaurants, but it's on second floor of one of these, so on week-ends the music under is very loud and stops late in the night. The living room is nice, there is free web connection or a payment pc location; who works at the reception are students, usually they change every day.
The bed rooms are little and not vey cleaned, the beds are not so confortable.
The kitchen is the worst part, not cleaned and not equipped, especially for breakfast.
In the end, the price is good, if you're an alone tourist or student without great requests ok, otherwise is better that you choose another hostel..

All of the other reviews are correct. The guy at the desk (the guy with long hair), calls Asian people chinks, black people te n-word, and freaks out everytime someone rings the doorbell. Oh, and he talks a lot about fornication. Really inappropriate. Rooms are filthy and people steal...there are no lockers in the rooms. Stay away!

I was in this hostel for two nights. It's on the 2nd and 3rd floor of townhouse. The rooms are pretty packed, i stayed in a room with 6 beds, 3 bunk beds and there was no space to leave your luggage. There are only 2 bathrooms on the 2nd floor but over 20 people on one floor (no kidding one room had 3 bunk beds which were 3 levels high). It's not the cleanest place, the rooms were ok mostly packed but the kitchen/dining room and living room were dirty (high traffic area i guess). The location is a 30 minute walk from White house and there are many bars and restaurant on 18th Street if that's what you're in for. Overall, if you'll be in DC for 1 night or 2, it might save you money staying here but you wouldnt handle it on the 3rd day.

Do not stay here!
The guy running the hostel is very rude and just weird. The place is dirty and smells awful, I didn't even want to go in the kitchen. My room was supposed to be a girls dorm and I ended up with 3 little guys; I don't have a problem with that, but it wasn't what I had booked.
Overall: really crappy service, tiny/dirty/smelly room-common areas-bathrooms.
I would definitely not recommend this place at all.

So this place is definitely not fancy, looks like a dump even by hostel standards. The bunk beds are stuffed in the rooms but no bedbugs while I was there and managed to grab bathroom and breakfast without problem. The main thing to consider is location in middle of Adams Morgan. It is above a club which plays loud music until around 2 am Thurs-Sat and there is a lot of traffic outside late at night. Of course if you want to be in the middle of nightlife, this should not be a problem. Fortunately I was able to switch rooms to be in another part of hostel that was quieter since I was prioritizing sleep at night. It was only a few blocks away from my conference at the Hilton and with all the area hotels averaging more than $200/night, this is one of the few affordable options near the city center.
