Description: Blue Duck Tavern, a contemporary neighborhood restaurant, invites its guests to gather and celebrate in good taste with a menu focusing on the freshest ingredients available from local purveyors and artisans. The menu notes every farm where the main ingredient for the dish was raised before its journey to the table. Dishes are genuine, time-honored and traditional -- slow roasting in wood embers, braising, preserving and smoking techniques bring the true flavors of America's great, simple and wholesome foods to the Blue Duck Tavern. The restaurant has an elegant residential feel through the open staff pantry and kitchen, wood-burning oven and the showpiece Molteni range.

“Great breakfast, pricey.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013 via mobile

Had breakfast and thought the food was excellent. Would highly recommend the egg white with crab very good and heathy start to the day. Food is pricey and the service was good.

“Holy Cow!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

Or should I say holy duck!?! What an overall great experience. Excellent service, excellent food, spectacular desserts!

The menu was interesting and creative without being weird. I never would have thought that seared tuna and cantaloupe would go well together and it certainly did. Apple pie (house specialty) was awesome as was the special dessert of the night.

Don't miss this place and do yourself a favor by arriving early for a drink in the bar. The bar wasn't anything spectacular but I found it very relaxing and a great start to the evening.

“Excellent service and great meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

A friend recommended BDT for a special meal during our DC stay - and we were not disappointed. Waiter was very knowledgable and happily helped us navigate the menu- suggesting we share sides - absolutely as they are in serving dishes and generous. We had the suckling pig and wagyu beef - both outstanding. Dessert was sweet corn ice cream and espresso creme brûlée - both superb. Wine list is endless - plenty to choose from and many available by the glass. We had a front row view of the open kitchen and loved the theater of it ll! Not an inexpensive evening but well worth it.

“Weird layout, but great service and food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

The layout of the restaurant is strange - not bad, just strange. For example, you have to walk through the pastry kitchen to get to the bathrooms. The menu is geared towards ordering family style, as all the sides are a la carte. We had a large group dining and may have ordered at least one of everything. Most of the dishes were very good, although some were just kind of typical preparation. For example, the crab cakes and duck breast were great, but nothing was unique about how they were prepared or presented. Other dishes, such as the scallops, suckling pig, and yellowtail were fantastic. Good wine selection and fantastic service. Of all the desserts I recommend the espresso creme brûlée.

This is a wonderful restaurant. Service, food, and ambience are all exceptional. Have been there a dozen times and have never been disappointed. Highly recommended for a special occasion.
