To the staff of this hotel:
The AKA women from Quincy, Florida would like to thank all of you for your kindness and hospitality this past week. Even though, we were staying farther from our events, you went out of the way to make it a pleasant stay... from calling cabs, to having our food ready when we returned from a late tour. I think someday, the location will be good, but for now, the drawbacks are distance from main events and no restaurants. However, the pluses will be your cleanliness or the rooms, friendliness of the staff and willingness to help solve guests problem. One thing, the bar closed to early and the water is too expensive !!!!!

“Good staff on a bad day”

Courtyard by Marriott Capitol Hill/Navy Yard

Jul 14, 2008

Although the hotel was very nice and the staff extremely personable, they did not have it together. Checking in on a July Saturday afternoon involved a 45-minute wait. At least 20 guests got up there and were told it would take a while because they were waiting for rooms. The only explanation I got was that "we were full last night." Gee, that's a shock, full hotel on a Friday night.

I stayed there to go to a Nationals game (about a five-block walk) and noticed there was still a line to check in at 11 pm. It is very convenient for baseball and the rooms were nice. Just hope they get their staffing figured out.

I know that many people like this hotel, the raving reviews is one of the main reasons I stayed here. I must say that I have never had such a bad, well lets say dishonest hotel experience and I thought it was important to share my stay. First of all, I had a specific problem that many people may not have encountered, but I cannot understand the high rating on this hotel. Before my problems occurred, I received less than spectacular service or treatment. The property was in a run down scary part of town. The front dest help were "scary". They treated my like they were in a bad section of town and had to protect themselves. The decor was beautiful, but my bed was the hardest I've ever laid on. So before my problems, I can't see how this hotel was so highly rated. It does go to show that hotels are really a personal preference. I checked in at almost midnight after an eight hour drive. I was exausted and just wanted to take a shower and climb into bed. After an extensive wait, I was given my room key. I dragged myself upstairs and noticed that the door of my room said handicapped. Curious I looked inside and it looked pretty ok. THen I noticed that the room was extremely small but the bathroom which was huge took up much of the room. I am not thrilled but tired. Finally I check the bathroom and noticed that there is no proper shower. There is a tub with a hand held sprayer that when mounted comes up to ones chest. After driving eight hours I wanted to stand under a real shower this was very important to me. I told the girls to wait, and ran downstairs. After a fifteen minute line, I finally approached the front dest and told them that the room would not do. THey said the room was fine and that the sprayer when mounted was the same as a shower. This is simply not true and I resent being lied to. I realized after that every night they must stick someone with this room, because they had all their answers ready. This is what makes me the maddest of all. They told me that the shower was fine and that my desire to have a proper shower ws actually just a preference. Simply they did this on purpose and callously. I insisted that it just wouldn't do and they said maybe they could move me. In addition, I now realize that I was one of many because I found a cell phone in the bathroom probably from the last customer that wouldn't stay there. Unfortunately I became the victim. I have now been downstairs over twenty minutes and they asked if we touched the room. I had to answer honestly not as far as I know because my girls were upstairs. They called the room and my daughter said that she had used the bathroom. They said that they couldn't move us. WHile I understand their point, I feel that this room should never be rented out unless the person wants it, and even if I was in there half the night, if I found out it didn't have a shower they have to move me. I am pretty sure since I work with ADA compliency that it is not even legal. For those thinking I am making a big deal, my answer is this. I did not pay $180.00 a night to not have a proper shower. I am not in europe and most importantly, the other rooms in the hotel have a shower. This is the regular room that they adverstise and I feel that they are obliged to supply it. To top things off when I further complained the man simply said I was stupid to let my girls stay in the room. Maybe, but at 12 at night onse judgement gets cloudy and I don't think any hotel employee should call a customer stupid. They sipmly dismissed me and I had to go to my "room". Calls to the Marriotts 800 number resulted in two very nice girls who said their treatment was rediculous, but I didn't get a call back until a week later, and it was from the same guy who wouldn't help me.

I am furious at Marriott for not answering my compaint and allowing this to happen. My point is that I paid top price for a high eend room and got less than a motel 6 (I would have gotten a shower there. I simply feel ripped off and misused, and as someone who stays in hotels over 45 hotels a year, Marriott should care. But they don't. I will never go near a Marriott again and the sad thing is that they could care less.

Stayed here due to the lower cost (used MarriottElite pts)and our willingness to commute into DC to sightsee. We were there for four nights-day two our room was broken into and camera bag, car keys and other items were gone. As a result I spent the next day away from family arranging for tow-trucks-new keys-UGH! Hotel GM offered very little help, no compensation & little remorse (almost like this is a common experience).Hotel new and clean-rooms adequate, staff helpful and knowledgeable, the free packaged breakfast was fair. Like other reviews-I found the area unsafe at night. We quickly went from the nearby Metro to our Hotel.

Went to DC for a Reds game with my 11 year old son. Arrived on Thursday night and hotel was very nice. Has a bar area on ground floor for evening and breakfast in the lobby in the morning. Was not in the best part of town but they had parking garage and offer in/out priviledges.
