“Good location and stay for family.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

We stayed here during Spring Break and, as expected, it was packed. However, we followed the hotel's tips to eat breakfast early and had little to no wait. We had a corner room which had lots of space for the 4 of us. Location was good- 3 blocks to Metro, but mostly we walked the 8 or so blocks to the Mall. Overall a good stay during a crowded time.

if you valet park you should call early. The valet cost us a delay on way to airport. It took them 30 minutes to bring car around. We were late and had to re book our flight which cost us 200$. There were places out front for the car to be parked we just didnt understand what they were doing. The breakfast is stressfully crowded. The room was clean and good size for our family, I wish the parking would have not left a bad taste in our mouth. As far as location it is not what i would call close to the mall or the sights such as musuem or capitol. The metro was not convient either. We ended up walking about 1 mile to get to the smithsonian. Not too bad just a point of interest for those wondering. Cab ride was 12$ to Lincoln momument. Also my other compliant is that you could hear the other room through the air vent in the bedroom part. We could even hear a sneeze or a cough.

Stayed here 2 years ago and had a great time aside from the fact that there was major construction outside. Was therefore very excited to return this year and had even recommended the hotel to several friends.

Big mistake.

First, our room had no heat for the first couple of days and we were freezing. We had engineering in multiple times and they kept telling us that the problem was fixed and there was heat. But there was no heat. They finally fixed the heat late one evening (keeping our young son awake past his bedtime in the process), and then called back later to check on things, awakening him from sleep (even though we asked them not to call because it would awaken him).

Second, the bedroom TV was too dark, making it essentially unusable. The first engineering person came up and said that he was going to get the master controller and come back and fix it while we were out for the day. Because of our bad experience with the heating, we called and spoke with the manager to ensure that it would really repaired before we got back. Needless to say, when we returned to our room that evening the tv was still not working and there was no note or information about why. Turns out (according to their engineering staff) there is a known problem whereby large blocks of rooms are unable to have the television display properly. I was skeptical until he showed us that a new tv that worked well elsewhere did not work properly in our bedroom. He said that we were out of luck unless we changed rooms. And there were no rooms available to which we could move even if we wanted to do so (see fifth issue listed below).

Third, there is no wired Internet and the wifi is expensive and lousy.

Fourth, the customer service is terrible. No one picks up at the front desk or at the guest services hotline. I had to keep running down to the lobby to get service. When the heat remained broken for such a long time the manager promised to follow up with me to make sure that there was a satisfactory outcome and he never called back.

Fifth, on one of the many times that I ran down to the lobby for help, there was a poor guy who was attempting to check into the hotel. He was told that the hotel was overbooked and he was therefore being bumped to a hampton inn. He was appropriately outraged, but the front desk staff was completely unhelpful.

Finally, the construction that was annoying at our prior stay two years ago was still there!

Not sure what happened to this hotel in the past 2 years, but it has really gone downhill. Ruined our vacation.

We just returned from our spring break travels in Washington. We stayed in a regular king suite with 2 adults and 2 children. The room was great since we could have separation of adults and children.
The location was great. Walking distance to the Metro Center station which gets you everywhere. Couple of the sidewalks were closed due to construction but what is a few more feet of walking when you are in DC.
Kids loved the pool, we loved the free happy hour! Complimentary breakfast is a bonus as well as we figured we saved $50 a day by not having to pay for breakfast.
Would totally stay here again.

Appreciated being in a suite as I traveled with 3 middle school girls. Gave them bedroom w 2 bed and I took the sleep sofa in the living room. I hate sleep sofas but thought for sanity's sake the separate space would be worth it. Never felt like I was on a sleep sofa-it was perfectly comfortable.

Room had refrigerator, microwave & safe so that was useful.

Breakfast buffet was good-they made egg & egg white omelettes to order-but they close up early for leisure travelers, as do most hotels which advertise breakfast included-and though the dining room was full, they broke the buffet down right in front of folks in line.

Hotel staff was friendly.

Pool & fitness room on 2nd floor. It was nice to have a pool at a hotel in the city-you don't always get that as real estate is too expensive.

In room wifi is $10/day. Did not appreciate that. Parking was around $40/day. Really did not like that!

There's a great little crepe restaurant nearby, the Capital Brewing Company is nearby, Metro station, Georgetown's Circulator bus goes right by, only a couple of blocks to National Portrait Gallery, Verizon Center, Convention Center, Chinatown, the Mint, Spy Museum. By the way, it is the nicest big city Chinatown we have visited, though it has just as many non-Asian restaurants and shops as Asian. Close to Franklin. Mt Vernon and McPherson squares.

MAJOR construction going on just outside the hotel that may take a few years has roads blocked so that is a drawback. The location on 9th between H and I means an easy straight shot to the White House/Foggy Bottom/Georgetown areas.

Noise from the lobby wafts up through the atrium so that can be a drawback if you are located on a lower level atrium facing room.

All in all, a comfortable choice for a DC hotel and while the extras ran the price up, we would stay there again.

Room Tip: Noisy over atrium so go higher or not facing atrium

My husband and I have just spent a week staying at the Embassy Suites and frankly I just can't say enough good things about the hotel, the staff, our room, the restaurant etc.

Located within a easy 10-15 minutes walking distance from the National Mall and just a few minutes from Mt Vernon Square Metro Station, the Embassy Suites are ideally suited to all types of travellers.

Our stay started brilliantly with a very warm welcome from Tania on the front desk. She was so welcoming and throughout the week she went out of her way to engage us in conversation, ask what we were doing and if there were anything she could do to make our stay more enjoyable. And that was the experience we had with all staff we interacted with, whether on the front desk, the housekeeping staff or the staff in the restaurant and gift shop.

We had a Hilton Honors Suite which was spacious, modern and comfortable.

The hotel provides a Managers Reception (Happy Hour) every day from 5-30pm to 7-30pm where they serve complimentary beer, wines, soft drinks and copious amounts of munchies (celery, carrot sticks, salsa, cheese, corn chips, pretzels), itg was very popular with the guests.

Also as part of your stay the hotel provides a free buffet breakfast. The breakfast menu is large with a cook to order section as well as a self serve. My only gripe here was the configuration of the buffet. The queues were long, it was difficult at times to make your way around becuase of the lines, the area in which the self serve area was located was too small causing congestion and it just became a battle at times to put your breakfast together.

The hotel has a guest laundry, indoor heated pool, very well maintained fitness centre and a small gift / sundry shop.

I would stay here again in a heartbeat and I just wish that some of the other hotel chains took a leaf out of their book in so far as what customer service is all about.

Thank you Embassy Suites for helpng to make our stay in D.C a memorable one.

Room Tip: Ask for a King Bed Corner room (non smoking)

Full time business traveler: This is my third time staying at this DC Embassy Suites C.C.. I have never had a complaint about the hotel. The lobby is busy but staff has always been good. Decor is good though not eye catching. Elevator service is good (a plus for large city hotels). The rooms are good, fairly roomy but not spectacular in their look and feel (though nothing that would stand out as unappealing whatsoever). Bathroom access is in the hallway and not through the bedroom (something I prefer). Bed and couche are pretty good. Bathroom is adequate. Environmental controls good. Video/audio fairly good. It is a multi story building that is fairly nice but not architecturally 'awesome'. There are some places to eat close by. however, I found that as evening approaches most of them close (they are more oriented to business hours though not all of them). There is a very good restaurant on site.
I recommend taxis when staying here. Taxi availability has always been very good. Closest metro is a 'bit of a hike'. Paid on site parking (valet) is available. Call ahead to get your car as, at certain times, I found them to be quite busy.

I gave the hotel 4 stars though 3.75 would probably be closer to the mark. I find DC hotels can be very hit and miss in how warm and comfortable they are. This hotel has always delivered good stays for me, I have been treated well by the staff, the feel of the room is better than adequate (the room decor is no where near superb but certainly far from awful) and it has a good central location for that section of DC.
