“Great location , friendly staff , noisy pluming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

This is quite a new hotel and so is fresh and clean . The staff are super friendly and the hot breakfast area is one of the best I have been to . We never got chance to attend the managers reception area but that looked nice as well . The only thing stopping a 5 star rating was the clunking of what sounded like the plumbing all night . We were upgrade to the 15th floor at the top and the noise seemed to come from above us . As the rooms were so quiet the constant tapping of the pipes became vey annoying during the night . Would visit again but avoid the 15th floor

We stayed here for 5 nights in February. Our stay started off on the wrong foot. We had reserved a room with two double beds but when we arrived they only had king beds. There were other people in the same situation and the only solution offered was to stay at a nearby Marriott instead. We had kids in tow and just wanted to settle in so we took the king room with assurances that they would switch us to a room with double beds the next day. When I stopped by the desk the next day I was told again that the room we had reserved still wasn't available and I should stop by the next day. The next day I was offered the right room with a city view but got a room with a view of a brick wall. Another trip to the front desk and we finally got good service and a very nice room, but three of our five nights were in the wrong room.

Putting aside the poor service at the front desk, we liked the hotel. The breakfast buffet was very good though the layout is poor and slows the lines down (there's a right-angle turn in the buffet which becomes a bottleneck and the line crosses into the dining room when it gets busy). We stopped by the manager's reception a couple of nights after dinner and appreciated the free glasses of wine. The kids enjoyed the pool, though it's only big enough for about 8 people before they're all crashing into each other. The spa broke during our visit which was a disappointment because we enjoyed warming up in it after swimming.

The location is very good and is within walking distance of a lot of attractions. We walked to the White House and the Spy Museum. Our kids are small so we took taxis to spots further away but adults could easily walk to the Mall and Capitol from the hotel. (An aside for families considering whether to use the bus system: Our average taxi ride was about $8 before tip. Taking the bus for a family of 4 would cost about the same and you would have to pay $20 for four empty Smartrip cards on top of whatever cash you load onto them. So for about the same cost as the bus you get door-to-door service from the hotel to wherever you're going. The taxi drivers in DC are friendly and take you directly where you're going, which you can't always count on in other cities.)

The hotel was incredibly clean and besides the troubles we had with the front desk, all of the employees we talked with were very friendly and helpful. We will probably stay here again when we come back to Washington. It's unfortunate that so many of the rooms face another building so they have absolutely no view (a view of a parking lot would better than looking at a wall that is ten feet away from your window). I know that the hotel has no control over that but it's something to be aware of when booking and when checking in; be sure to ask for a room on the front of the hotel.

I enjoyed my stay in a executive suite very spacious a lot of windows. Not the best view with all the construction going on downtown. Room was clean. Staff was friendly. Breakfast was good. Nothing bad to say about this Embassy Suites.

Last stayed at this hotel 4 years ago. Liked it so much then that we decided to stay here again when we returned to DC. Even better now than it was then.

Robby at the front desk went out of his way to make us feel welcome.

Room redone - large, clean and perfect for the three of us (myself, husband and 18 year old daughter).

Manager's reception ran efficiently offering munchies and free drinks.

Breakfast buffet was packed but even so, we had no trouble finding a place to sit and didn't have to wait long for our food.

Room service pricey (isn't all room service pricey?) but very quick and the food quite tasty. Front desk also provided us with a variety of take out menus upon request.

Great location. Easy to walk to the Mall/White House/Ford's Theatre etc.

Will stay here again the next time we head to DC.

My husband daughter and I stayed here for a volleyball tournament Presidents Day weekend. I had emailed a few weeks before asking if it was possible to have a room on a higher floor and was very impressed with the quick response saying they would accommodate my request. We stayed on the 14th floor with a view of the Capital building in the distance. The breakfast each morning was wonderful especially the omelet station. It gets very busy once 9:00 comes so get there early. The evening managers reception was a very nice touch to a long day. Everyone of the staff was very friendly and always spoke with a smile on their face. My only complaint would be the shampoo it did not lather well for people with longer think hair. This was a minor problem. We would definitely stay here again when in town.

We stayed there for two nights and didnt regret it. Nice, clean hotel and friendly staff. Location is not too good if you want to shop around but it has a Starbucks vis a vis, the Capitol City Brewing Company around the corner and you can reach the Spy Museum by foot. There is a manager reception each evening: during 2 hours you can eat and drink for free. That includes sodas, beer and some chips and cheese.

My wife, adult son and I spent four nights at the Embassy Suites Convention Center(from Thursday to Monday) in Washington DC over President's Day weekend. We used 170000 Hilton Honors points for a King bed bedroom/pull out sofa living room suite on the 14th floor. The suite was immaculate and maintained in such condition by housekeeping over our stay. The bedroom had a very comfortable bed with nice bedding. My son did say the sofa bed in the living room was just ok for sleeping. The suite had ordinary hotel furniture in good condition a fairly large (I did not measure) LG HD television in each room and a small fridge and microcave. The bathroom was fine-fixtures were in good condition. Even though there were three of us, we had to ask for additional towels and shampoo twice during our stay. Overall we found our suite to be nice for sleeping and for resting during the latter part of the afternoon after sightseeing. The sleeping room configuration offered by this HIlton brand allowed us to book only one "room" instead of two, for the three of us although it took a fairly hefty number of points(not atypical though for a major city such as Washington.). There were some negatives that were extremely apparent and not noted in other reviews here. The "complimentary" "cooked to order" breakfast was very disappointing. The large restaurant and bar (Finn & Porter's Italian cuisine for lunch and dinner which we did not experience) is turned literally into a cafeteria for breakfast, plastic trays and all. There is an egg and omlet line adjacent to the open kitchen and a buffet filled with huge trays of mass produced scrambled eggs, greasy bacon and potatos and related items. Adults and kids line up in various places to get the various items including pre-dispensed dry cereal in push button cylinders. My wife and I went in the first morning and observed crowds of adults and kids with some eating with their hands off their plates and then touching serving spoons, filling their plates with high piles of greasy food, etc. It should be pointed out that the staff worked feverishly to try to keep up with the masses with a manager shouting instructions to guests to line up a certain way and be patient. With the hotel being 15 floors and filled with families over the President's day weekend and with the quality of the breakfast being cafeteria grade at best, we opted out and went to Starbucks across the street each morning. The "complimentary" breakfast just did not work at all for us which was a disappointment. It was also disappointing to see no traces of a hand sanitizer station and the behavior of some of the patrons was as disappointing as the breakfast istself. Its really a "you get what you pay for" situation to some extent though I must say that Marriott Courtyards, Hilton Gardens and even some Hampton Inns (Hilton brand) know how to put on the complimentary breakfast. I hate to say it works alot better on smaller scales with predominently business travelers. This Embassy also had a "manager's reception" from 5:30 to 7:30pm each evening with "complimentary" cocktails, etc.. Unfortunately this worked similarly to breakfast with poorly made mixed drinks and trays of cubed cheese and potato chips. Quite disappointing as well but not surprising to us at all to see this with throngs of guests of all ages lining up for the free offerings. We wanted but were not able to use the one small jacuzzi adjacent to the indoor pool because it was always occupied. The pool area looked fairly nice though but small for a hotel of this size.
Overall, I rated this hotel as "very good" despite the negatives since we found our suite as well as hotel staff deserving of a favorable rating. I do hope this hotel looks into how breakfast can be vastly improved. Ironically, going to a pay for sevice breakfast (and/or bed and breakfast rate programs) with Hilton restaurant quality service and fare would solve the problem here.
