“The best B&B ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2014

My partner and I did a research on B&Bs in the DC area and decided on this one due to its close proximity to the Metro (u Street) and a range of cafes and restaurants and other areas of interest.

David, the owner, ensures his guests to his home (spread over two houses next to each other) are made to feel welcome and that they treat the place as they would their own home. He has spent 20 years in ensuring your home comforts are the best.

Cooked breakfasts each weekend and a self serve buffet Monday to Friday. There is plenty of food and you will leave for the day on a full tummy. Breakfast is also the time to catch up with the other lodgers and we had some wonderful conversations and met some great people.

In the afternoons there is wine provided free of charge so you can again socialise in the common lounge and tea and coffee and snacks are available thought the day - again complimentary.

If we visit DC again we would not hesitate in staying here again.

Do the research on their website so you know what you get with your room as there are some with an ensuite and other rooms with shared bathroom.

Thanks David for a wonderful time and for being a fabulous host

The house is very homely with antique style furnishings. The rooms were satisfactory and the bed very comfortable.
The best part was the amazing breakfast which is described as continental but I would say was better than most lavish breakfasts in hotels with freshly baked goods and homemade quiches, fresh berries etc.
we would recommend this place to anyone who wants a quite & peaceful stay in DC. Easy to walk to U street station and catch metro to monuments and museums.

The breakfast on the weekend is great and they say its only continental breakfast during the week but it is more then enough to pass for a regular breakfast at most places. The owner David gives great advice about what to do and is very knowledgeable about DC and the history of the area. Its close to a subway exit, DuPont circle and bike rentals. You can even walk if you have to. The house is very comfy and our room was great. This will be the only place I stay in DC.

William Lewis House is not just supremely comfortable and ideally-located, it is a unique traveler's destination in itself. The house is magnificent, with shared living areas including a wonderful dining room and sitting room, plus a verandah, where guests can mingle or curl up with a book. The rooms are spacious and appointed with a great blend of classic furniture and mod-cons including air-conditioning. David is a warm and generous host who provides his guests with special treats at every turn - breakfasts are sumptuous and the glass of wine in the evening provides an opportunity to wind-down and meet new friends. Advice and information about the area is available at every turn. The House is minutes from the historic and eclectic U Street area and 14th Street with its great restaurants, bars, shops and subway access but incredibly peaceful, especially in the evening - a real tonic for those who are working/sightseeing all day. This is a special place run by very special people.

It's a nice and informal B&B. Very clean room and bathroom and very authentic home experience.

Bed was a bit squeaky, but comfortable. Breakfast was nice, a tad small selection of condiments, but satisfactory. Homemade pan-baked croissants which were extremely tasty!

It's a bit of a walk from the nearest subway station and parking could be an issue, but it's satisfactory. Some good restaurants nearby.

Service was good, but you need to hang on TIGHT to the key given! They could do well with digitizing their door lock.

Wi-Fi is free and has sufficient bandwith.

My first stay at a bed & breakfast - so, the first 12 hours or so took some getting used to - but, after that, I found myself enjoying coming back "home" to the William Lewis House and relaxing.... The furnishings are beautiful; the dining area always has a nice treat or two and I slept very comfortably. I was a bit confused at check-in (as it is not handled the way a typical hotel would handle it - but that is what makes the William Lewis different in a good way). I also enjoyed getting to meet other guests and interact a bit - something that doesn't happen at a non-B&B... I have already recommended William Lewis House to friends.

Stayed here a year ago and came back this year. I love this place. Dave's sister is lovely and of course the dogs are delightful. The breakfast are plentiful and the conversation with the other guests is fabulous. It feels like you're staying at home and not like you're out on a business trip. Very relaxing! It's only about four or five blocks from the metro and in a great up and coming neighborhood. Don't hesitate to check it out :)

Room Tip: Have stayed in Queen 31 both times, great room! Did check out Queen 25 and it looked awesome. Will b...
