“Simply and Serene”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

I believe this is where President Obama attends church.

The church is quite close to the White House

Very simple, serene and contemplative interior . Commenced as a church in 1815 this is an extremely simple Protestant house of worship.

Worth a visit for its background alone

“Lovely, historic church across from Lafayette Square”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

This historic almost 200 year old church is about a block from the White House and is known as the Presidents Church because every president since Madison has attended services here. You can sit in the last pew on the right as you enter which was Lincoln's pew when he came here during the Civil War. Pew 54 is designated as the President's Pew and is set aside for the president when he attends a service.

It is on the National Register of Historic Places and is a lovely, peaceful place to visit and take in the history.

“Thank you...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

I went there the next morning and saw a homeless man sitting there on my way back from my morning prayer and was able to give him my bottle of ICE. IT was the best thing I have done in months to help my soul and heart. The church served even when the doors were closed.. Thank you God!

“Near the White House, go enjoy.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

St. John's is just across the park from the White House and is a very neat little stop while in the area. Every President since Monroe has attended at least one service here. The services are beautiful and the music that emits from the building evokes a wonderful reaction in one's heart.

“A gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

I didn't get to hear the music here which is apparently amazing, and part of an annual calendar of events, but what a wonderful spot anyway. As we are in full Lincoln mania it was fun to sit in his pew at the back.It is like so many things in DC very atmospheric, redolent of great men and great feats.Don't skip this one even as you go on to all the myriads of monuments DC has to offer, it is quite special.
