“DELICIOUS - Great Experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

First of all, if nobody has told you yet, this is a cafeteria at the museum. Not to worry though - this is food that is far from the old cafeteria style food you are thinking. There are several food stations that offer foods from different native american tribes to choose from. I chose the northwestern indian station and had the salmon baked in a horseradish coating, some roasted root veggies, and a chard salad. Everything was DELICIOUS and cooked perfectly! This was gourmet fare in the modest disguise of a cafeteria. Loved the food and the museum is beautiful. Prices are not cheap, but the food is not cheap either.

“Best Food on the Mall”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

(4 circles is comparing it against other cafeterias)
1) it is in the Indian Museum 2) it can get crowded 3) it isn't cheap. Having said that, the place is pleasantly decorated and the food is the best you'll find on the Mall. They can cater to families and to picky kids. They also have very good vegitarian dishes.

They have multiple serving stations each representing an area of the Americas. I actually go there for lunch during the winter for business meetings or just to get away (I can walk there). So if you want to try something from different areas, pick up an entree in one place and sides in another. Make sure you look at all the stations before ordering. They also sell beer and wine.

“Good Healthy Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

For a cafeteria that has to serve hundreds of people every day It is my opinion that they do a very good job. They offer many healthy and tasty vegetable dishes which we enjoyed. Yes it is a little pricey but we did not feel cheated. The Smithsonian museums do not charge to enter so I took that into account. The staff we encountered were very pleasant, very helpful and seemed to take pride in the food they serve. I will eat lunch there again when visiting the Smithsonian museums.

“Most diverse food on the Mall”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013 via mobile

The Mitsitam Restaurant is definitely the most diverse lunch spot on the Mall. The food recipes are from a variety of Indian tribes across the U.S. Ihe food is good but somewhat expensive. It may not be the ideal for a family lunch. A simple lunch will cost about $15+/pp. the hardest thing will be deciding what to try since the menu items will be very different than most diners will be used to. Definitely worth a try

“Best Lunch on the Mall”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013 via mobile

We had lunch here a few times while visiting DC. Interesting and some exotic choices, all good with nice blends of flavors. All Native American selections from North to South. Tame items also. Make lunch from several sides, especially for vegetarians.
